    AEW TV Megathread

Hey I grew up watching JCP every weekend, so having a million belts doesn't bother me. I'm just hoping they aren't going to end up giving WWE something to be petty about because they seem to be in that kind of mood lately.
  2. I never thought I'd see the day that Bryan Danielson was considered overrated, but here we are I suppose. It seemed like every DVD that ROH sold (which was their primary source of income) featured Bryan, and in a promotion where workrate was king he was never far from the top of the list. His WWE run is probably his most impactful considering he managed to get himself over to the point of main eventing Wrestlemania when the company clearly didn't see him at that level. I think maybe everyone's so used to fans "hijacking the show" that it's easy to forget how remarkable it was at the time for that to happen. He's someone the exact opposite of everything Vince looked for in a top guy and he willed himself into main eventing the biggest show. There's also the matter of his importance to the next generation as well. I'd wager there's a lot of people who got in the biz because they were Danielson fans and that kind of legacy can't be ignored in my opinion. Not to mention he's one of the best babyfaces I've ever seen in wrestling in terms of getting the crowd invested in the match. He's also one of the few people who seemingly is incapable of having a bad match. Sure he's been in there with a lot of other top tier workers, but he's been able to work magic with folks who maybe aren't at that level as well.

So AEW is creating another title, the National championship, which has already caused Mike Mondo (who has the NWA National title) to crash out on social media about how his is the "real" one. It's interesting how they are very clearly trying to link their title to the one from Georgia in the 80s, considering that's all part of WWE's intellectual property these days.

Man that was Jade's best match in WWE by a mile, who'd have thought booking her like Brock Lesnar works better. She's like opposite John Cena, she absolutely sucked as a face and should never have stayed that way so long.

Yeah I have to wonder if when Stephanie Vaquer was dreaming of going to WWE that meant them employing her abuser as well.

A Griff Garrison sighting! Any time I see him still the only thing I can think if is Mr. Brodie Lee yelling "WHO THE FUCK IS GRIFF GARRISON?"

So Chelsea Green did a challenge for her and Ethan Page for the AAA mixed tag titles. On one hand it makes sense since the current champs are La Hiedra and Mr. Iguana (who of course WWE has fallen in love with), but on the other I don't see the AAA fans accepting the WWE style mixed tags when women, men, minis, and exoticos fighting each other is one of the things AAA was known for.

Maybe its just my dumb American brain, but I'm enjoying this Okada more than the seven star NJPW ace Okada. This heel run has been one for the ages, his heel work has been just amazingly great. Not to mention it's almost surely extended his career since now he can rely on that to get over and save the high level in ring stuff for the big matches/PPVs. Watching Collision now and Ishii and PAC was a very excellent Little Meaty Men Slapping Meat match. Olympia is either going to get over big or be the next person WWE tries to poach because she's built like lucha Jade Cargill without the whole being terrible in the ring thing holding her back. Also the Artist Formerly Known as Tegan Knox just randomly appearing in a backstage interview segment on Collision was just peak ADHD Tony Khan.
  12. Also it's amazing how many guys I watched as a kid being pushed for their envious physiques ended up dying in their 40s yet Abdullah of all folks made it to 84.
  13. Per the Observer site, Abby's booking agent posted that he's in the hospital battling serious health issues. “Wrestling legend Abdullah The Butcher has been hospitalized at 84. The Wild Man from the Sudan is battling serious health issues. One of wrestling’s most feared figures, Abdullah helped shape the sport from Japan to Puerto Rico to Georgia and beyond. Send your prayers, love, and strength his way tonight.“

The fact that she's literally been calling herself Ultimo Mone (and I think she even trademarked it) would seem to indicate it's absolutely going to happen at this point. Bryan Alvarez was suggesting it in a joking manner, but man would it be some all time old school worker hilarity to have her lose all the belts by slipping on a banana peel to like Harley or someone and then she'd be the one to go around and drop all these indy belts all overt he world.
  15. MOM were not a team anyone would ever consider winning the tag titles. even for a short run. It was legit easier to believe something got fucked up than it was an actual choice the company made. These were still the times where the titles had real meaning, so it was that inconceivable that it would really have been booked that way. By the way as fun as their babyface run was, you should look up their heel work in the USWA for a treat.
  16. The WWF would occasionally have title switches at house shows in the 90s just to put over that you never know when something will happen (and also a sly way to boost house show sales because, hey you never know when it might happen in *your* town). Hell even Bret won his first world title in a match in Saskatoon that wasn't even aired on TV.

I assume that was Harley doing the voiceover, but she was using an old timey voice that made it sound like Toni Storm recorded a hype video for her opponent. Which honestly I didn't bat an eye at initially.

Say what you will about the guy, but I would love to just nerd out about wrestling with TK. You know he has opinions on everything. Also watching Wrestledream after work and so far another fun ass show. Love seeing Charlie Thesz (another person I interacted with back on AOL) having the time of her life.

Hearing TK talk about chatting with Lou Thesz back in the AOL days reminded me that I also was part of that community which means between that and DVDVR there's a fairly decent chance we interacted at one point which is just wild to me.
  21. What's worse is with normal non competes the person gets paid, but not with these. So they want to be able to fire you, not pay you, yet keep you from earning money elsewhere in the US. That's not going to fly in court, no matter how many White House photo ops the Huntster gets to have.
  22. So Andrade disappeared after making his AEW (re)debut since TKO put language into WWE deals tying them up in super long non competes if they get fired for cause. They already got legally slapped when they tried to do that to Brock back when he wanted to try out for the NFL, it's silly for them to try again now.

I thought Cena/Styles was great Pro Wrestling Bullshit. It was two old bulls charging at each other one last time Paying tribute to some of their favorite guys to do battle with, ending up a love letter to both WWE and TNA legends in the same match. I loved Cole's line of "the greatest of all time and one of the all time greats" putting over both guys, and how even in defeat Styles had a look on his face of "you win, but god damn that was great". Hell the best part of the whole thing might have been how the ring introduction was apparently a shoot that Cena wrote that Styles intro and AJ didn't know it was coming which was awesome.

Watching Crown Jewel now, and it's not a bad show....it's actually pretty good.....but the whole "Crown Jewel" concept just seems out of place not in Saudi. I mean I guess technically Australia is under Charles, but that's not the crown I think of with these shows. yanno.
