The GCW show was pretty good. It wasn't anything that will change your mind, if GCW wasn't your cup of tea before nothing here would sway you, but it did give me the same feeling I had when I watched Barely Legal in 1997. Just seeing this company running a whole ass PPV in the Hammerstein seemed so improbable and inevitable at the same time, and the rough spots were more than made up for by things like the lucha trios match and Nick Fuckin Gage in the main event. Speaking of, they got All In'd and had to cut the main event short due to having a hard 11pm stop time, but honestly the real main event was Gage's intro and his post match promo. It's easy to see why the GCW fans love him so much, He's a thug who's heart is in the right place, he makes you believe he fuckin' loves his gang and puts his heart on his sleeve.

Peter Avalon is like Janela in the sense his biggest value is outside the ring, He promotes on the west coast and could be someone who could funnel any up and coming talent their way. Not saying they should have re signed him, but there's more to him than the Librarian Guy. At least the people who will be allowed to lapse have a healthier indy scene to go to now.

I don't doubt Joey might have had a beer or two, but MSL is trying to imply a Jeff Hardy level "no condition to perform" type deal which is clearly bullshit.
-
The thing about doing a torch passing Sting/Darby match is how would you set it up? You probably couldn't turn Sting heel if you tried and turning Darby would seem to defeat the purpose entirely. Babyface vs babyface is risky since you run the risk of killing the crowd since they want to cheer for both and end up cheering for neither.
-
If MSL is the one claiming he's getting threats, I wouldn't believe him even if he had receipts. Say what you will, one thing about Joey is he's clearly a "zero fucks given" type of guy and won't hesitate to call bullshitters out on their bullshit.
-
Joey has been one of the more vocal people out there pointing out MLW pays their talent peanuts while Court jets around trying to broker deals like he's Vince and not a small time carny ass promoter. Also I've never heard anything about Janela hurting anyone, and accusing someone of being drunk on the job is pretty fucked up thing to do. Not to mention MSL has kind of been a low key douchebag for a long ass time.

Purchased the GCW show tomorrow, Hammerstein is such a great venue no matter what and that card is stacked.

Apparently whoever runs the WWE twitter is blocking people who use #FreeAli

Hey, nothing wrong with betting on yourself. Lio has a budding music career, I can see him not wanting to be tied down if that starts panning out for him as well. Also I was thinking, would it be worth it for AEW have their TV partner carve them out a section of HBO Max? They don't really have the back catalog to do a full WWE Network style streaming service, but as a section on an already established service they could get out in front of a bigger audience and don't have to deal with the headaches of making their own.

He said he wants to work with other places and doesn't want to be tied down to one with a contract.

I would be okay with Hook destroying QT being a regular feature. Also seeing John Silver visibly marking out for Mark Henry doing the "ITS TIME FOR THE MAIN EVENT" was too precious for words.

Teasing Mox/Danielson so that's a thing that's happening. Trent leaving Wheeler Yuta hanging on the dap attempt was an interesting "this is obviously foreshadowing" moment.
-
Funny how suddenly we have Seth name dropping Mox on Smackdown, maybe Vince hopes he can pop a rating for him too.

Dave putting it up for vote on whether or not to expel Chris Benoit (and the resulting vote to not do so) pretty much closes the book on the idea of a morals clause for a wrestling HOF. There's always going to be people who should be in who won't get votes because their transgressions are known beforehand. Bonds and Clemens are probably the greatest hitter and ptcher in baseball history respectively, but neither have a chance of getting in the baseball HOF because both were unrepentant assholes to the media who vote on it (and you better believe that's the reason why, steroids just make for a convenient cover story).
-
I mean he checks all the boxes Dave asks for. Is he a draw and has he been one for an extended period of time? Yes. Is he considered one of the top workers? Yes. Even if you want to argue the age thing, he would be the one guy I would think is the exception since his body of work is such that it's really hard to come up with a reason to not vote for him that makes sense.
-
Yeah once someone's been elected in his mind that's it even if he personally might not agree. You can always tell when that's the case when he's asked about a marginal candidate and his response is "hey they got the votes so apparently enough people thought *X* was HOF worthy"

To be fair, PPVs on Sundays are a relatively recent thing. Plus if you're going to make your tentpole shows 4 hour marathons it's better to have them on Saturdays so people don't have to go in to work or school hungover the next day.

WWE TV 01/10 - 01/16 Is this year's Rumble going to break some walls down?

Golf is absolutely the sport with the most affluent audience, I think it's by a large margin too. -
Okada really wants to have dream matches with Punk and Danielson, and I'm sure he'd like to work with pretty much everyone else in AEW.
-
Yeah after all that went down he posted on Twitter that he went to Tony and they worked things out.

Dante really is the type of guy that encapsulates AEW right now. He'd either be in developmental forever or chasing the 24/7 title in WWE, and AEW saw this guy doing amazing stuff and wowing the crowd and decided "he's probably not completely ready but he's over so fuck it let's give it a try" and that is the kind of stuff that makes stars out of folks. Not a guarantee of course, but you gotta take a gamble on someone if they get over. -
I'm sure a lot of people were interested in Cody because of the deal with his contract coming up. Ironically, I think that's one positive for AEW in how they don't ignore real world happenings.

Dynamite beat Raw in the demo this week, so everyone place their bets on what Vince's panic response will be next week.
