The 90s were 20+ years ago. We bash Cornette a lot for not being able to keep up with the times, it would be hypocritical to give Joey a pass for essentially the same thing. Also Austin and Sandman were scripted to flip off their bosses, Joey was not. If anything i'd compare it to Shawn continuing to make insider comments and act like a dick after he was expressly told to knock it off by Vince during the early DX days.

It literally isn't about the offensiveness of the comment, it's about making a point that you're going against what the boss told you to do. And yes, 1980s Jesse would not have lasted in today's environment. Neither would Bobby Heenan's jokes about comparing Tito Santana to a cue ball where you get more english the harder you hit him. Times change. Just like things in Looney Tunes cartoons from the 40s wouldn't fly today either.

This. People beating the dead horse of PC-ness missed the point that his boss told everyone to not do anything political and he did it anyway. It doesn't matter if the joke was funny or not, or if anyone was offended, Joey was unprofessional and he paid the price. And to answer another poster, Styles is what the kids call "alt-right" these days and that certainly would change the context of a grab-em-by-the-pussy joke as opposed to say Dave Chapelle doing one on SNL.

If they ever were going to do Taker vs Cena at WM, this would be the year to do it. Having said that, I don't think it happens. I also really hope they don't go with Brock vs Shane unless it's a proxy for Shane in the match.

I haven't seen many ads that aren't for their own shows or for Tapout (that they have a stake in).

But half of a $50 PPV (more for Wrestlemania) is still higher than 70% of a WWE Network sub, plus a lot of people sign up for the free month and bounce without ever paying and/or game the system to have several free months.
-
WWE doesn't get all the profit from the network, part of it goes to MLBAM.

Obviously not everyone who voted for Trump was a racist, but to suggest racists didn't overwhelmingly vote for him is a dishonest statement as well.
-
Dave mentioned in the latest Observer that there's plans to have Heyman and JBL do opninon shows on the network in the vein of ESPN style talking head shout shows. I figure that would either be amazing or a disaster depending on how much input the two get to have.
-
Their TV money is pretty much what's keeping them profitable. The network is just now getting to the levels profit wise that PPV was at before, and everything else has been stagnant.

People who bought tickets are getting emails that it's going to be a four hour show now. WWE seems to have not learned from previous examples of WCW and to a lesser extent UFC when it comes to putting out way too much content and watering everything down.

Live Wrestling: What are you watching, what are you going to watch?
sek69 replied to Grimmas's topic in Pro Wrestling
One of my co workers is part of PWX here in Pittsburgh so I'm planning to catch one of their shows soon to watch her in action. -
To be fair, something else happened the week after that put the brakes on that story.

I would argue it wasn't so much because of Kane but because the Team Hell No skits allowed Bryan to show his personality more than the lame "vegan nerdy guy" material he was working with before.

Honestly. the change is a net positive for me. It's not as bad for a multi man elimination match

Rock N Rolls vs Rude/Fernandez were having a good series of matches over the tag titles before Rude got hurt/signed with the WWF and we got the RnRs just showing up with the belts after a phantom change.

If Raw would have been any more mailed in, it would have been delivered by UPS.
-
They also added a part 2 in the Austin vs McMahon collection.

If this ends up having any legs, I can see it being a boon to indy groups that may not be as equipped to do the heavy lifting to stream themselves.

I'm not someone who trains, either professionally or recreationally, but it seems the whole "tainted supplement" defense would lead to questions on why pro fighters would continue to risk taking supplements if they're that susceptible to tainting. Either you look like a jackass for taking the stuff and/or you look like a jackass for being the miillionth person to use the same excuse for popping.

The way the USADA statement was worded it could mean anything from him not checking in at the proper time or him sitting in a Scarface style mountain of coke. By all means throw the book at the guy if he actually took something, but it's kind of shitty for a governing body to release a statement more vague than a bitchy teenage girl throwing shade at her former BFF on Facebook.

It's sad my first thought was "how can they do champion vs champion when both are on the same brand" before remembering Roman is US champ.
-
I thought Rusev/Reigns was the best, mainly because it was the only one that felt like it had the hatred built in to justify a cell rather than the other two being built on "Daddy Hunter likes me best" or "We're making history".

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
sek69 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I hope when it's all said and done and TNA is gone, like for-real for-real gone, the narrative doesn't become that it was always shit. There were many times, even recently, where the in ring stuff was decent to good, sometimes even great. -
Gran Metallik will eventually be finishing up with CMLL soon, and Tozawa and Gallagher should be coming in as well. Hopefully you're right and they need an extra show to keep everyone busy. Still, it's going to be odd if the Raw Exclusive Division has it's show taped at Smackdown every week.
