Meh, gotta disagree, most of the stuff that's worthy of inclusion gets brought up in the rec threads and a fair amount of the major important stuff does get included. Things fall through the cracks but ppl should be used to that 4 sets in now. Given other ways ppl have gone about putting together best of type comps i'd say if anything this is the most democratic method i've seen. I think that happens more out of "necessity" then any genuine dislike or disinterest of how the final product turns out. What I mean is, what makes the set has allready made the set (mission acomplished), it'll get seen and talked about in due time thus it doesn't need as much further attention paid to it as something not on that also may be worth checking out.

[1995-01-23-WWF-Raw] 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Holly vs Smoking Gunns
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in January 1995
Glad this ended up making the set. Always thought it was a really good match that for whatever reason never got pimped much. Great performance from the Gunns I thought, maked out huge for their double team stuff back then, Kidd & Holly were good too. Random aside, I always liked Shawn's anouncing work he was doing on RAW and for whatever reason him yelling out to one of the Gunns during this match"COVER HIM YOU REXOL RANGER" I found insanley amusing. some 16 or so years later I still don't even know WTF a rexol ranger is either -
[1995-01-22-WWF-Royal Rumble] 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Holly vs Bam Bam Bigelow & Tatanka
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in January 1995
I'd have to go back and watch as it's been a while but I don't remember this being a 1 man show atleast. Never was a huge Holly fan but I thought he had a good run around this time, same with Tatanka. Remember those 2 having a fun singles match either the week before or week after the Kid/Bam Bam match that's earlier on this set as part of the buildup. Never gave it much thought before but this was quite the card, weak Rumble aside. -
I've long since thought this was the best match Nash ever had but thinking about it a lot lately i'd put this in the #1 spot for my favorite Bret match too. Whole thing really felt like an epic war. Whole thing just had a big match, important atmosphere about it, helped by the fact that I thought the build up was really intriguing too. I'd only started watching wrestling in the Summer of 91 so i'd never seen or even known about Bret's past before then and only knew him as goody goody baby face. Him working slightly heel was pretty shocking to me at the time and really did do a good job putting over Nash as being THAT tough to beat and the match/title as being THAT important to win. Totally loved it myself, did a good job of making sure both guys came out staying face, was a clever way of getting out of either guy losing, made the heels come off as pricks, added something to the feuds Nash/Bret had going with all those guys and I just plain thought it was cool.

Is there photographic proof of this? Not just odd but so odd I can't actually believe such a thing occured.

WAR 10/21/1992 Owen Hart vs Ultimo Dragon This on the other hand, not one of Owen's better bouts. He was back in the WWF at this point and rocking his High Energy pajama pants & suspenders gear here. Ultimo appeared really motivated and looked like he was up for having a great match but Owen was in full on cruise controll mode. You could almost tell from the opening moment too when the very first thing he does is start with a kick to the gut, punch and headbutt. Not the kind of stuff one hopes to see from the guy. Still, Owen Hart's C game is still pretty darn good and better then a lot of others A game so this didn't suck or anything close, it's just not a classic or anything close to the exspectations you'd have when reading on paper and thinking "Hey, it's Owen Hart vs Ultimo Dragon awesome".

[1995-03-26-AJW-Wrestling Queendom: Victory] Lioness Asuka vs Yumiko Hotta
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in March 1995
It was a DVDVR fave back in the day. Placed #5 on their best joshi of the 90's poll. Had a strong rep a few other places too. Again, I liked it myself, don't think it's a bad pick for the set at all, I just wouldn't call it top 5 for the year let alone the entire decade.- 24 replies

I enjoyed this match although after years of hearing the hype about it I didn't think it lived up to it's rep. Bull/Kyoko from this show was one of the very first joshi matches I ever saw after downloading it way back in the old hotline connect days and it never did anything for me. First impression was that it was horribly boring and draged on and on. I re-watched it last a couple years ago and I still didn't care much for it then. 9/2/95 i've never seen, of the 3 other Bull/Kyoko matches I have watched I agree 91 is def the best although their 94 match is right up thear too. Weird pairing in that all their matches always seemed to be either MOTYC or totally forgetable/average with like no in between- 24 replies

Posted this in the 91 rec thread but fig i'll put it here too 11/2/1991 - Owen Hart vs Danny Boy Bollins - Europe, CWA i'm guessing? Absolute hidden gem. It's a rounds match and the first 2 are made up of some of the best chain wrestling i've seen in a while and the rest of the bout is a masterpiece of back & forth counter wrestling. Really feels like something that should be put up thear with the Bret, Bulldog, Liger, etc... stuff as something that gets talked about as one of the very best Owen Hart matches ever. Danny's a guy I REALLY should start paying more attention to too. He randomly keeps poping up in footage I watch, be it WoS or random other Euro feds or Michinoku Pro and no matter what setting or year I see him in he's never anything but awesome but i've never taken a deeper look at his body of work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L4j1jAZer0

[1995-01-04-AJW] Manami Toyota & Sakie Hasegawa vs Kyoko Inoue & Takako Inoue
FLIK replied to Loss's topic in January 1995
In 95 there's just a lot that overshadows it, not the least of which is that the 8/30 re-match is largely considered even better by most ppl who've seen both. YMMV depending on how much you dig wild brawls but for me personally this isn't even top 10 joshi match for 95 (and I do love this match don't get me wrong) so i'd say you're in for quite an enjoyable year Will be interesting to hear what you think of 3/21 too (Blizard Yuki is Sakie under a mask if you didn't know) since that's the one I haven't seen yet and only know of by rep. -
Was there something that led up to that? I know Regal had been doing commentary down thear for a while so i'm guessing he didn't just randomly get back in the ring out of the blue.

Weird, never knew Dutch actually had any matches in the WWF during that run or that Smothers was ever heel thear. If i'm remembering right wasn't it 97 that they then poped up in ECW for a short time, hanging out with the Dudleys.

Think this was their last year. I remember it because of the feud with Well Dunn that led to the awesome Harvey Whipleman vs Howard Finkle Tuxedo match on RAW this year.

It's pretty nuts the stories i've heard about how controlling his family is of the Santo image to the point whear even he doesn't have complete freedom over what he can/can't do.

Heh funny story I forget if it was London or Kendrik but in their shoot one of them actually did mention getting a royalty check for his DG apperances though it was only for a tiny ass amount In his interview Gabe did specifically mention he had a conversation with one of the wrestlers recently about how 2 years ago he'd have been able to pay him $300 per night but now he can only afford $100 and talked about how if he's running a Fri/Sat/Sun triple shot, $900 is a lot better motivator for a guy to go out and bust ass then $300

$20 for 1 DVD is really steep but they are constantly running sales so it's pretty easy to buy them for less then full price They were going after lots of traders back then. I still remember Lynch having to be all hush hush about selling Z1 shows for a while, having to send out seperate list and stuff like that.
