  1. I did anticipate that this forum would lean more toward John Cena but I had no idea that it would be this lopsided. I think the results would be close to this on DVDVR as well but on the majority of other wrestling forums, I think it would go the other way completely. I think a lot of it has to do with age and the amount of wrestling that has been watched by an individual. If you grew up during the Attitude Era and are really only exposed to WWE, I don't think that you're voting for Cena. Pleasantly surprised, I would say. :-)
  2. This is interesting to me. If you add in things like drawing power, Cena kills Angle too. On the majority of wrestling sites around the internet, John Cena is the underdog. How much of that is because of WWE pushing Kurt Angle as a "technical wrestler" though? Or maybe it is just a case of fans not being as smart as they think they are. Or it's just subjective and an opinion so it can't be proved one way or the other. I wouldn't say that Kurt Angle sucks but his best stuff definitely came in WWE and it was when he was working with great wrestlers that could lead him through a match. It seems he got to a certain point, peaked, and was content to just stay there. Now he kind of feels like he just goes through the motions. Ironically, when people make arguments either for or against either guy, they seem to say the same things. If someone likes Cena they will say that Kurt Angle can't sell and all of his matches feel the same. If someone likes Kurt Angle, they will say that John Cena can't sell and all of his matches feel the same. That's why I thought it would be an interesting thread for comparison. Elsewhere, one point that was noted is that John Cena only has good matches if it's a gimmick match. I do find that interesting because a lot of his matches that are my favorite matches tend to be things like Last Man Standing, I Quit or Street Fight style gimmick matches.
  3. I'm genuinely curious how people feel about this. I wanted to ask this question as its own thread instead of just an off-hand question in the comments thread. Let's get a list going of matches that matter. I need help and dates. We can debate the matches too (for example I know some people hate the Shane McMahon street fight). JOHN CENA: Vs. JBL, "I Quit," WWE Judgment Day 2005 Vs. Rob Van Dam, ECW One Night Stand 2006 Vs. Kurt Angle, Carlito, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels & Kane. "Elimination Chamber," WWE New Years Revolution 2006 Vs. Umaga, "Last Man Standing," WWE Royal Rumble 2007 Vs. Shawn Michaels, WWE Wrestlemania 23 Vs. Batista, "Last Man Standing," WWE Extreme Rules 2010 Vs. C.M. Punk, WWE Money in the Bank 2011 Vs. Brock Lesnar, WWE Extreme Rules 2012 KURT ANGLE: Vs. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, WWE Summerslam 2001 Vs. Shane McMahon, "Street Fight," WWE King of the Ring 2001 & Chris Benoit Vs. Edge & Rey Mysterio, WWE Smackdown 7/11/02 & Chris Benoit Vs. Edge & Rey Mysterio, WWE No Mercy 2002 Vs. Chris Benoit, WWE Royal Rumble 2003 Vs. Shawn Michaels, WWE Wrestlemania 21 Vs. The Undertaker, WWE No Way Out 2006 Vs. Samoa Joe, TNA Genesis 2006
  4. As a worker, is John Cena better than Kurt Angle?
  5. Listening to Wrestling Observer Radio today, it struck me that one of the things about Dave that irks me the most is he takes everything too literally. He doesn't seem to grasp hyperbole, exaggeration or sarcasm. He also doesn't seem to have a sense of humor at all, he's so goddamn dry. Also, the newsletter said that Money in the Bank had, well lemme just quote: That has to be a type-o, right?
  6. You think that's excessive? Count the number of minorities that danced on RAW...
  7. I still don't know why they went public to be honest.
  8. I actually wrote a decent length post on this just the other day, so I'll copy/paste it here because it seems relevant (and might spark some additional debate):
  9. This thread is a great idea but it already seems to be getting a little side-tracked and hostile... I think it's because of just these reasons, really. How can someone be a World Champion when in one promotion there's two world champions? How can a United States Champion be credible when it's a comedy character that loses a popularity vote to a Divas Championship with a butterfly on it (last night on RAW)? Let's look for a recent example at the tag team titles: On the Money in the Bank pre-show on YouTube, Kofi Kingston & R-Truth defended their tag team titles. Then on the actual Pay-Per-View, Darren Young & Titus O'Neal (the number one contenders) had a match with Epico and Primo. Epico and Primo won, but didn't become the number one contenders. Instead, the match meant nothing and the contenders got the PPV slot over the champions. Then the next night on free TV, the guys that are the champs that weren't good enough to get on PPV beat the guys that were good enough to be number one contenders and make the PPV but not good enough to win on the PPV. So an uncredible champion team beat an uncredible contender team...and shockingly, no one cared.
  10. I don't think John Cena needs the title. I think the title needs him. The belts don't mean anything anymore.
  11. The biggest problem I see with AW is that he's supposed to be a heel & he can only get a reaction by being funny. If you do things that people like, you're not going to be a heel for long. Which honestly, I don't know if those guys being babyface would even be a problem. I laughed several times, especially when he tightened up Darren Young's afro.
  12. Do you think John Cena will go on last at Summerslam over Brock Vs. Hunter? That will be interesting.
  13. Since when is New Jack's word worth even as much as a piece of toilet paper covered in shit? He might be the most despicable mother-fucker in all of pro-wrestling right now, which is saying a lot. A drug abusing, unreliable lying piece of shit. Not that I care about or am defending Tammy but I doubt anything she has done is worse than Mass Transit, Vic Grimes & the Terry Funk roast and those are just the first three that come to mind in a long list of shit that Jack has done. Hell his last shoot was pretty much just two hours of blasting Terri Runnels.
  14. Smackdown MitB was pretty sloppy and I was afraid for the safety of the wrestlers on several occasions, especially when early on Sin Cara in the span of 1-minute looked like he injured both Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes. It picked up toward the end and I was happy with Dolph winning but I wish they would do away with these more dangerous gimmick matches. Sheamus/Del Rio might be the two, most boring, most unover wrestlers to ever compete in a Pay-Per-View World Champion Vs. #1 Contenders match. I wasn't drawn into the match at all and was completely uninterested. Then post match the guy that was just put over in the previous match gets to look like a bitch right after. That makes sense... Hated the card placement. Didn't make sense to have the tag title match on the pre-show and a non-tag title match (with nothing at stake) on the PPV. If the Hustlers are still #1 contenders, what's the point of the match? Why not just do their match against the champs tonight? DB/Punk, don't like the ref stuff, didn't like the added no-DQ, didn't like the use of hardcore spots (especially the kendo stick being completely worthless). Not sure why C.M. Punk Vs. The American Dragon can't just be a wrestling match. I guess the table makes sense as that was used a couple weeks ago on RAW when AJ pushed both through. Punk beats Daniels again for like the third time on PPV now? And we still didn't get any real solution to the story, which this match was mostly about the story. Meh. Ryback Vs. jobbers was pointless filler and really exposed him because they decided to make him go longer and be on the defensive against jobbers that he's already squashed. Divas was pointless filler. Main: didn't like it going on last. Don't care that Cena won and I think that can be fun and different. Dug the eliminating of the Big Show spot early. That's about all I can say about that match as I missed a lot of it due to using the bathroom and making food. I would say thumbs down, personally but I watched it alone which always makes the shows worse to me. And the commentary REALLY sucked. Like, one of the worst I can ever remember, which includes Wrestlemania 2. Cole/Lawler/Booker is like the worst three guys I could come up with if I was purposely trying to make the worst commentary team ever.
  15. This is exactly it. Whenever Dave tries to open his mouth about anything else he sounds like a fucking idiot because he lives in a bubble.
  16. Give it a couple weeks & we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if they both get implants & then go back to WWE. Even in their Maxim magazine interview this month they said they can't wait to go back to WWE.
  17. Realistically, I guess it does sort of have to be a case-by-case scenario, doesn't it? Otherwise people will be talking about guys like The Warlord or Batista. Speaking of, if you try to go by weight, do you go by real weight or billed weight because that makes a big difference too.
  18. Well, firstly you need to establish a specific definition for what "big guy" is and then stick to those criteria. Trust me, the feeling is mutual, my friend.
  19. Thanks so much, shoe, now I just need to track them down...
  20. No one better to ask than you guys, so I'll ask here: does a match between Tito Santana Vs. Rick Rude exist where neither man is a jobber? I would love to see a babyface Tito Vs. heel Rude match where they were given some time.
  21. Kane is worse than Demolition. I asked about Kane before here once. I think I asked if he EVER had a good match. Quite a few people replied listing matches but none of them changed my opinion of him, that's for sure. He's big, slow, lethargic and boring. And I like a lot of big guy wrestlers, so it doesn't have anything to do with having physical limitations or working as a big man in WWE. He's just not any good and never has been. He's better than 9-1-1!
  22. Last I heard she was in the punk bank The Luchagors. I don't dislike punk music in general, I've listened to several punk bands over the years. I wouldn't say it's my favorite thing in the world as I tend to lean more toward things like Tom Waits, but yeah, they're not good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFavmGJVqBI
  23. Yeah and don't forget, in addition to women you listed Maria, Maryse, Tiffany & Michelle McCool all left too, for one reason or another. Plus Mickie James went to TNA. Which, when you think about it, Maria was voted Diva of the Year, Maryse was a former Women's Champ, Tiffany was a G.M. and McCool was a Women's Champ. So they all got TV time & were built-up. I'm not sure what the circumstances surrounding each of them leaving is, but whatever. It seems like the women now are a lot more open to the idea of finding work elsewhere. Trish is doing yoga now and Lita is doing some crappy band shit. I think a lot of it has to do with WWE being stubborn and not wanting to let the women pursue other things besides wrestling while still being employed. I remember that Mickie James wanted to sing (despite being terrible) and Maria wanted a clothing line or something. Both are still involved in wrestling, so I assume they weren't looking to leave the industry.
  24. Or she'll just never get called up from FCW, which seems more likely to me.
  25. They're just going to try to rebuild the Divas division into a wrestling division, re-establish credibility to the title over the next several years, so that Triple H's daughter can win it and become the youngest female champion ever. Then they'll retire the belt, kill the division and call her the best ever.
