Holy shit that title cracked me up! I don't have high expectations. Why are there not one but two 3v1 handicap matches on the same card? Meh, I don't wanna miss it 'cause of the title unification but the bar is low for me.

Why is a professional wrestling ring sometimes referred to as a "squared circle?" I tried looking it up online & found a few different answers, none of which were answered as facts or with any confidence. Hard to take an answer that starts with "I think" seriously, ya know? I figured this was as good a place as any to ask. I've read both the answers of "because a literal ring is a circle but a wrestling ring is a square" & "because of amateur wrestling taking place in a circle."

I personally always liked jobber matches. As a fan, it was like the only time you ever got to see a damn finish. On the PPV, you might get a screwjob. On TV, if it's star against star, if you have any sort of clean finish it'll be like a roll-up or something. Sans like a Goldberg push or something. I remember marking out on Nitro just because Wrath was killing people with The Meltdown for a couple of months. You put Tom Johnson from Tallahassee in the ring with DDP though, you're getting a Diamond Cutter. I've always been a big proponent of a wrestlers finish being a big part of his character/gimmick. If a dude has a shitty finish, it's harder for me to get into his matches. I used to love that old WWF Superstars show when I was a kid because you got to see the signature moves from everyone. The Rude Awakening, the DDT, etc. Otherwise, it felt like we never saw 'em. Then on a PPV they would tease their finish & the other guy could fight out of it. Without ever seeing the damn moves, that tease doesn't work anymore. Plus, as an added bonus, if the fans get several Tom Johnson from Tallahassee squashes on a show, suddenly a mid-card match between The Miz & Kofi Kingston might matter more. That would be like an old B-show main event. On RAW it's a channel-changer & an eye-roller.

Heh. Still think Bryan wins though cause he doesn't have a lot of competition this year. I don't think Okada or Tanahashi are really up there this year. Punk fell off. John Cena missed some time. If you could vote for The Shield as one unit, maybe! I agree with Goldust for Comeback (does that category exist?) & Reigns for Rookie although I like Summer Rae too, she has no chance of even getting a vote. My MOTY might be the Cena/Punk RAW match from after Elimination Chamber. I did like Shibata/Ishii from the G1 Climax show too. There's quite a few Shield matches. Best Promotion: WWE Best TV Show: NXT Tag Team: Reigns/Rollins Feud of the Year: Rhodes Brothers Vs. Authority/Shield Most Improved: Bo Dallas Best Interviews: Gotta be Heyman or Zeb, I reckon

Great. Now every time I watch a 'Child's Play' movie, I'm going to hear Triple H's voice in my head when the doll talks. "Ya know...I'm your friend till the end-uh."

1. Kane: 1,518 matches (14 years) ...and they all sucked.

Did something go wrong? Did someone get hurt? I'm so confused. That PPV ended super early.

I think Del Rio is a very good worker, but it's hard to argue on his behalf at this point as his character is completely flat and the booking only makes it worse. Of course I feel like that about a lot of guys, including Punk who has been change the channel level horrific as a promo/character for the majority of this year Like, I can't even argue! He's so talented. He should have been huge... just bad booking, man. Build him up as this big star then he loses in the curtain jerk of 'Mania after winning the biggest Rumble ever. He's been heel/face multiple times already, has nothing but rematches, been champ multiple times already...they burned through an entire wrestling career in like two years. Poor guy. Now he doesn't even have the stuff that used to make him unique, like the cars or Ricardo.

When you can't buy a single near fall in a match, not a single one of them, I'm not entertained by the match. So that Cena/Del Rio match was not good to me, or decent, or even serviceable. It was same old shit. Del Rio is just SO FUCKING BLAND. I pretty much never want to see him ever. He makes me not care. He's just a 2013 Dino Bravo to me: no fucks given. I know some peeps dig him, totally cool with that, but he's not my cup of tea at all.

Weird with WrestleMania being in New Orleans, they are turning Henry into JYD. I mean...his finish has been The Thump for like...ever.
-
Mark Henry got blown up & I don't really wanna see him as a babyface but I'm glad he's back. I figured it would be Sheamus honestly. Pleasant surprise. EDIT: ...has Ryback ever won on PPV? A single time? I can't remember him winning. Surely he has by now & I'm just overlooking it.

Saying a wrestler "works hard" is like getting a participation ribbon in school. No one cares, you're a jobber.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if Roman Reigns wins the Royal Rumble. I feel Reigns & Cesaro are the future. Reigns, barring injury, is going to be huge. EDIT: McGillicuddy still sucks.

In a vacuum, where online fans just watch the match later on YouTube or whatever, I'm sure the wrestling will be fine. If you're a fan of stories or characters or build-up, or original matches, this shit sucks. I imagine anyone paying $54.95 for a WWE PPV is probably tired of Rhodes Vs. Shield part forty-five or whatever we're up to. To us though, the matches are always good, so fuck it. Hope the Boston crowd is hype. This PPV has to go head-to-head with Sunday Night Football which is Tom Brady Vs. Peyton Manning though. And on paper, I don't think most people think this card looks all that stellar. I mean...I don't know a single person off the internet that cares about Alberto Del Rio OR Randy Orton...and that's the two main events. Looking grim!

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Coffey replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Nothing would change. Just like when TNA got Jeff Hardy. None of the fans can make the jump with the wrestler when no one knows TNA exists. People aren't watching Spike TV at any other time to even see a TNA Wrestling commercial so how will they know about it? Only if they're watching COPS reruns or fucking Bar Rescue. -
I'm a fan of the Crossface Chickenwing & The Camel Clutch. Mostly because they both look like they actually hurt. Especially if the fingers get locked in the Chickenwing or if the Clutch is done Iron Sheik style, not like Scott Steiner or Sabu. Kana in SMASH had a helluva Chickenwing.

Good news! Rhodes Brothers, Usos, Punk & Bryan Vs. Shield & Wyatt Family is on free TV tonight on country RAW!

I think you're delusional. All Kofi has ever done is a few spots in gimmick matches. Walking on ladder stilts or falling off a ladder or jumping to the guardrail in a Rumble. He's a worse Shelton Benjamin. Meanwhile, I consider Tito Santana one of the best babyfaces of all-time. Tito kills Shelton & Shelton is above Kofi, so there ya go. Tito's feud with Valentine might be better than Kofi's entire career. Kofi is dreadful & one of the first people I would fire if I could. He's the poster boy, to me, of everything wrong with modern WWE. But that's another rant altogether. So, no, you can "get the fuck out of here with that garbage."
-
Even calling Kofi a poor-man's Tito sounds like a slight to Santana to me. Chico was so many miles above Kofi it's ridiculous. I would compare Kofi more to someone like Buff Bagwell.

Like, ALL of their Pay-Per-Views are gimmick pay-per-views nowadays... Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, Money in the Bank, Hell in a Cell, Extreme Rules, TLC. It's over kill. Admittedly, I loved when their were just four PPVs a year & Rumble & Survivor Series were the gimmick shows, I just don't know how it would really work today. WWE doesn't really do a lot of midcard stuff anymore. Storyline wise & the feuds are all recycled stuff between guys that have traded wins back-and-forth for five years. Wyatts Vs. Punk/Bryan makes sense. It makes sense because The Wyatts beat-up Punk/Bryan on RAW a couple weeks ago. The Shield/Wyatt stuff was just a teaser. So you don't throw out Wyatts/Punk & Bryan just to hot shot a clusterfuck match last second. I mean, I think more people care & would pay for Cena Vs. Del Rio than slapping The Usos & Rhodes Brothers in a big ass tag match. WWE is pretty stale top to bottom. There's a lot of great ring work going on but casual fans don't really give a fuck how "good" a match is. Shield/Wyatts will be hot. No reason to burn through it instantaneously. I mean, I know it's not like WWE has a great track record of letting stuff slow burn or play out over time lately but whatever. They're teasing tension between Shield/Wyatts & dissension between Reigns with Rollins/Ambrose. I think Reigns is going to be the next Batista style top babyface after he splits from The Shield & we might see the Wyatt/Shield confrontation/match be the catalyst for it instead of just being a heated feud.

Since RAW started, excluding Iron Man matches, what's the longest WWE match?
-
I disagree with the praise Natalya receives & think she's one of the worse off Divas. I don't think it would be a terrible loss if WWE parted ways with her.
-
I think the women are a lot more interesting to talk about. Mainly because in WWE, there seems to be a lot quicker of a turnaround. You rarely see a lot of Divas in WWE once they hit the age of 30 or so. Usually, anyway. Right now, on the WWE Diva roster you have: AJ Lee (26), Aksana (31), Alicia Fox (27), Brie Bella (30 in a week), Cameron (26), Eva Marie (29), JoJo (19!), Kaitlyn (27), Layla (36), Naomi (25), Natalya (31), Nikki Bella (30 in a week), Rosa Mendes (34), Summer Rae (29) & Tamina (35). On the NXT roster you have: Alexa Bliss (22), Bayley (24), Charlotte (27), Emma (24), Paige (21) & Sasha Banks (21). Aksana, Layla, Rosa & Tamina could be released & WWE could call up Emma, Paige & Sasha. One of the biggest "problems" WWE has ran into over the last few years is they either hire models & make them wrestle, or they hire wrestlers & make them model. If they hire wrestlers to wrestle & models to model, they're fine...but for whatever reason, we never get that. So we have had to watch stuff like Stacy Kiebler & Torrie Wilson wrestling matches. Now though, there's just beautiful women that know how to wrestle & with TV-PG, WWE doesn't do a lot of the raunchy stuff anymore. AJ Lee is pretty damn over. She has 1.15 million Twitter followers. A lot of little girls look up to her & that's with her portraying a heel on TV. If WWE would bother to spend the time to do so, I think the women's division could be a big thing for them right now. They have to shed the stigma that it's the "piss break" match. Give them actual stories, let them work real matches & I think with AJ, Kaitlyn, Summer, Emma & Paige they could have something. But it'll never happen if they keep putting people like Eva Marie, Aksana & Cameron in the ring...

And he's sucked for twenty years. Kane was the first name that came to mind when I thought "If I could get rid of anyone, one single person, who would it be?" Mask, no mask, heel, face, serious, comedic...it doesn't matter. He's done it all & it's all tired at this point. We've seen him shock Shane McMahon's testicles with a car battery, set Jim Ross on fire, use a voice box to tell people to "suck it!", cut a "Kanenites" Hulk Hogan promo, wrestle a technical match with Big Show for some reason, do the Hell No therapy comedy skits & "hug it out." His entire career is ridiculous. He's always just been a second-rate Undertaker at best & an unfunny, lumbering goof at worst.
