Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Someone on this board has to have a copy of the 2004 HOF issue of the Observer. I want to get to the bottom of this. -
He was over enough to win BOSJ.

Seems like an easy way to test this hypothesis would be to look at the vote totals. Did Angle do significantly better among current and former wrestlers than among reporters and historians? Also, for the record, Angle got in with exactly the bare minimum of necessary votes in 2004. I don't know where this notion that he got elected in a cakewalk came from. Old wrestlers always talk up Angle. Always. It always bugs me when Bret does it, since it's pretty hypocritical relative to his comments about Flair. I'm looking for data, not anecdotes. -

Not at all. I'm trying to make an apples to apples comparison. I think both guys are elite workers, and I would grade their peak output as roughly equal. In that case, you have to draw the line further down, and I think versatility is as good a place as any. And yes, I recognize that I'm an outlier when it comes to Dandy's brawling abilities.
-
By this rationale, Ultimo Dragon was a better worker than El Dandy. Only if you thought they were roughly equal in every other respect. I don't really consider getting over in more places reflective of versatility. El Dandy displayed an amazing versatility just within lucha libre. It's not just getting over in more places. It's getting over in places with completely different styles. Black Tiger is pretty far removed from Latino Heat. It should be noted that I consider Dandy to be a rather mediocre brawler. Why didn't Tanahashi main event TNA ppvs? This might be a legitimate question if AJ Styles was a main eventer in New Japan.
-
Could Dandy have gotten over as a New Japan junior or a WWE main event heavyweight? For that matter, why couldn't he make it past jobber status in WCW?
-
I don't know if this is a fair comparison because of the huge disparity in available footage. It's much easier to poke holes in Eddy's work because there's so much of him on tape. Dandy's career isn't nearly as well documented. That aside, I'll go with Eddy due to his ability to get over in a wider variety of environments incorporating a wider variety of styles.

Does anyone doubt that Angle would've gotten in as soon as he was eligible under the new criteria? -
I thought the WWF stopped drug testing in 1996.

No fanciful scenarios, I just posted my suggestion on the board. Don't worry, though, my dreams are very rarely that dull. Most of the time, they involve sex, beer, and/or zombies. -

I had a dream last night in which I suggested that there be a best-of compilation after all the 80s sets are done consisting of the top 10 or so matches from each set. How does that sound? -

So it seems that Missy Hyatt is on the membership rolls of the National Socialist Movement. http://www.onepeoplesproject.com/index.php...14&lang=en_ Isn't she Jewish? -
Is it possible that his account was hacked?

After delving a bit deeper into Tenryu's singles oeuvre, I'm still finding him to be a bit hit or miss. I think the issue is one of expectations. The way he's often described, I expect him to be a straightforward asskicker like Hansen or Vader. But he's a lot more sluggish than either of them. I'm finding that his best singles matches feature him spending the majority of the time working from underneath. When he controls a significant portion of the match, it inevitably grinds to a halt at some point.

Guys you "should" like but don't?

I'm not really feeling Blue Panther. It's not the style, because I can get into guys like Dandy and Navarro. But Panther leaves me cold for some reason. When I watch him I do his thing, I think "Yep, that sure is some quality matwork all right", but nothing really knocks my socks off. -
I stand corrected. My broader point stands.

Remember how the crowd exploded when Dolph cashed in the last time Raw was in the NYC area? Now he's reduced to leeching off ZACK RYDER'S heat.
-
I've turned the corner somewhat on title match lucha. I don't think I've acquired "lucha eyes" or anything like that. I still think a lot of the matwork is too contrived/cooperative for my tastes, and for the life of me, I can't get into trios matches at all. But a few title matches are clicking for me in a way that they hadn't previously. I've updated my list to reflect my newfound appreciation. That, and I felt that the list could use a bit more stylistic variety.

Most boring wrestler of all time?

Curly Bill whipping Silver King into his own corner might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. -
Nothing with Orton vs Cena sounds interesting. I mean they have tease this many times and most of the time the crowd could care less. At wrestlemania it will be mean even more less (can't think of better word ). Right now the only thing we can hope for is that it isn't the main event It's like, "How much more less could the crowd care about Cena/Orton?", and the answer is none. None more less.
-
My stream died right when Cena came out. What exactly happened?

The Punk-in-peril section of the tag match was pretty dull, but the Bryan-in-peril section was great. "One guy has to go it alone because his partner got taken out" might be my favorite tag match storyline. I would've liked to see a couple of instances where Bryan tried to tag out but couldn't because Punk wasn't there, though.
-
Cena/ADR was pretty good, but the lack of heat hurt it a lot. It kind of reminded me of a 2005 Cena match where he'd get his ass kicked for 90% of the match and hit an FU out of nowhere.

Henry/Ryback was kind of disappointing. Mizark busting out the JYD headbutt was awesome, though.
