  1. You forgot to mention the best part: the match was a backdrop for Elias singing. He sang the entire match.
  2. Is this supposed to be a double turn? Because it looks like Corbin was struggling valiantly to overcome the repeated illegal interference of the Mysterios.
  3. The way she worded her apology makes it sound like Alberto threatened her and/or paid her off. In any event, I doubt the state can prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt without the victim's cooperation, so it looks like he'll get off scot-free.
  4. That's precisely the problem. The little Jimmies he brought in didn't stick around and the fans he drove away never came back. I don't really think there were too many holes in Austin's work you could point to. But to your overall point, that's why I mentioned personality. You can look past holes in a wrestler's work if he's cool enough. There was nothing cool about Cena.
  5. Hansen won the AWA title with a Boston crab. Also, I'd argue that Cena's STF (along with the bulk of his offensive arsenal) looking like complete dogshit played a role in driving away fans over the past decade and a half. There's always some creative license involved in pro wrestling, but most of Cena's work was so blatantly fake-looking as to make it impossible to suspend disbelief. That sort of thing can be overlooked if you find a wrestler's personality sufficiently compelling, but when you consider how many fans found him actively repellent, it's no wonder they abandoned WWE in droves.
  6. Barnett was a member of the original HOF class that got in by fiat, so he wasn't categorized by region. His bio from the issue where the class was announced is as follows: Controversial promoter who ran successful operations in many parts of the country including Indianapolis, Australia and Georgia and was a key member of the WWF and WCW front offices. A key player in the early days of Georgia Championship Wrestling and its original association with Ted Turner.
  7. I encourage everyone to pay no mind to the previous two posts and check out Jacob Fatu vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr. Not a barn-burner, just a solid hoss fight. Fatu might be the best big man in the business today.
  8. Maradona? Wasn't that Chris Candido's gimmick in the WWF?
  9. The fact that it was a Korean production probably had a lot to do with it.
  10. If you need a reminder of how culturally irrelevant WWE really is, Obama likens politics in the Trump era to a "World Wrestling Federation constant cage match" at 9:50 of this video.
  11. These Undertaker Cameo videos sure are something. Just know that there's someone out there who has nothing better to spend a grand on than having Taker address him as All Elite Scooby-Doo.
  12. Let's be real, though. Omega is in almost entirely on the basis of work. If you think that the Okada/Omega tetralogy is the greatest series of matches in history or close to it and Omega/Page vs. Young Bucks is the greatest tag match in history or close to it, then he belongs in on that basis alone and whatever role he played in growing New Japan's business and establishing AEW is icing on the cake.
  13. Fatu's age doesn't appear to have been made public since I can't find any semi-official source for it. And he refers to himself as a "young cat" in this article from last year: https://www.theringer.com/2019/9/17/20864851/mlw-major-league-wrestling-court-bauer However, the article also mentions that he has six kids, so he has to be getting up there in years. In any event, he re-upped with MLW earlier this year (and given the aforementioned six kids, it must have been a hell of a deal), so he's off the board until 2025 at the earliest.
  14. I think AEW has a nice mix of talent. Sure, there are plenty of flippy workrate guys, but there are also plenty of brawlers and hosses as well as more personality-based workers like Cody and MJF. The only thing they're really missing is guys with technical gimmicks. I'm not sure what free agents are out there who would fit that bill. Maybe Fred Yehi.
  15. I'm pretty sure all the current ROH/Impact/MLW contracts either specifically preclude working for AEW or preclude working for any company with national TV. The only reason guys like MJF and Jimmy Havoc were able to work for AEW while still under contract to MLW is because their contracts predated AEW's existence and only prohibited working for WWE and Impact.
  16. The only Carmella match I have any distinct recollection of is her awful title defense against Charlotte at Backlash a couple of years ago. I also recall her defenses against Asuka being really bad, but I remember nothing about them except James Ellsworth returning at the end of the second one. I would hope she's improved since then, but I strongly doubt she's improved enough to be able to carry a match.
  17. Does having repellent personal views mean this guy deserves to be bullied and gaslighted by his employers? Or provide reason to think he's lying about the abuse he received?
  18. Dave is now openly comparing Cornette to Trump. Talk about hitting him where he lives. He's obviously far from the first to make the comparison, but it has to sting coming from someone Cornette was close with for so long and surely still respects on some level.
  19. Billy Gunn is deceptively tall. Hiroshi Tanahashi looked like a child next to him when they wrestled on the New Japan show in Long Beach. Regardless, DDP owns Comeback Studios, which has produced videos for AEW, so he seems to be the most likely culprit.
  20. Moxley's real name is Jonathan Good. Regardless, I have no idea how Renee has them saved in her contacts, so I'll concede the point.
  21. Gonna be honest, that's a pretty strange mistake to make. Neither their ring names nor their shoot names are even remotely similar, so I'm not sure how you can text one while meaning to text the other.
  22. Cornette speculated that Dave must have sent HOF ballots to reporters he knew would vote for Kenny Omega because that's the only way he can imagine Omega being voted in. Also, Dave on the F4W board called Cornette out for not really pushing back against Brian Last complaining about Larry Matysik being on the ballot and Chris Benoit not being recalled when he voted for Matysik year after year and was one of the biggest advocates of retaining Benoit.
  23. Mandy might be legitimately injured. She came down awkwardly when Nia threw her out of the ring last week and had to be attended to by medical personnel. Yeah, I know. An injury involving Nia Jax. Stop the presses.
  24. Wuertz has been showing his whole ass all year. Not only is he a full-on MAGA smooth brain, he quite possibly handed Candy Cartwright a smoking gun in her lawsuit against Riddle and WWE. Speaking of smooth brains, Nia had better hope God made her immune system stronger than her knees.
