  1. There was a clip floating around somewhere, maybe dvdvr, where Harley teamed up with Akeem and did in fact dance with Akeem and Slick on the way to the ring. 1988 European Tour I think.
  2. I love the over-the-top ridiculous selling and can watch it all day long. The 360 mid-air spin from a slap to the face, crotching on the post, the general ridiculousness that Mr. Perfect matches bring. To quote George C Scott in Patton "I love it. God help me I love it so".
  3. "Kid" Collins looks to be about 65 and it's probably safe to assume that Jeff Cannon is the owner/booker?
  4. Finding 70's/80's guys with epic hair is like shooting fish in a barrel, really. It's going to be a hell of a competition to decide who's best.
  5. Bobby Eaton generally had one hell of a mane of long, flowing blond locks
  6. While a fine WWWF Champion, DeNucci could not hold a candle to the Great Bulldog Bob Brown-suke, who held all major belts simultaneously and retired undefeated:
  7. I can't get past the horror of the image of Ivan Putski: WWF Champion. Probably one of my least favorite wrestlers ever.
  8. NO IDEA if this is the good match or not, it's the only match-up between the two I could find courtesy of graham's site and other various listings:
  9. Awesome show. Have had the electricity flicking on and off all day and am only about an hour in so far, 10 minutes at a time. Agree with chad, the RnR's vs Russians would be a Top 10 Crockett match for me easily, maybe higher but it's so hard to nail down a Top 10 with the abundance of top-of-the-line Crockett matches. As far as the affiliate deal in KS - Wichita has affiliates for the four major networks (Fox came along in 1988), and the Wichita stations cover all of KS, far eastern Colorado, southwest Nebraska, and northern Oklahoma, except for northeast KS (which is Topeka and KC). Wichita technically is the largest city in the state if we pretend KC is two different cities. I view KC as one city and a Missouri city, myself. I imagine Topeka has its own set of affiliates, but they cover nothing close to the amount of ground the Wichita stations cover. We always had WWF shows in syndication - Starting in 1985 with CBS for a long time, then they bounced to NBC and eventually FOX before disappearing in early 1993. Aside from TBS, Crockett was syndicated here in 87 thru early 88, then disappeared until 1991. Crockett/NWA syndie stuff was very hard to track down - they bounced around NBC, CBS, and ABC, never FOX. They were never on the same station for any length of time and always had oddball start times - 2am on Sundays or 5am Friday, 11pm Sunday. Digging the show so far.

  12. I ran across another NWA show from 1988 which they called Championship Wrestling from Florida. It was Pro or WWW repackaged with a different commentator and an incredible amount of Mike Rotunda matches.
  13. Anyone ever watch the Telemundo/Univision soaps? My wife is a big fan. I don't know what the hell's going on in those, but there's an explosion every 5 minutes and the women are incredibly hot. I could get into those if my Spanish was better.
  14. Main Event was a hell of a show, at least in 1988. Top matches. I wouldn't call it a "B" show, at least not in 1988.
  15. Wasn't Iron Sheik a guest on Springer?

  17. Case in point - the Chiefs are my team, and there was a lot more Belcher coverage in this region than there was nationally, and my first reaction to this was "what the fuck is jdw talking about?"
  18. The NFL just booked a swerve this year. I don't understand how anyone can watch that fake NBA crap.
  19. Here's a quote from one of my college professors. Her quote was about a decorative piece I made that I was convinced was shit, but her quote applies to the above as well: "It's you. Own it. If these other people can't handle it, fuck them"
  20. Is that it? Both explanations totally make sense, but I don't totally buy either one. One of my co-workers collects doll HEADS, is obsessed with autopsy photos, and may or may not have murdered her husband. And I'm the one that takes all the shit because I'm into that fake wrestling stuff. I will admit to being hyper-over-sensitive on the subject. Is anyone still buying that the NFL is legit?
  21. I hear that all the time. Still haven't heard a good explanation why the same principle does not apply to scripted TV shows, movies, or other shit involving actors and scripts.

  23. I much prefer watching full shows that don't require full attention all the time so I can pay bills, draw pictures, feed the cat, have a smoke, whatever, and not worry about missing out on whatever Ivan Putski is doing in the ring. Give me a breather every now and then and it's easier to appreciate the truly great matches. Same reason I don't like action movies. EDIT: Should probably say that I enjoy horrible wrestling every bit as much as most 5-star classics.
