  1. In-ring, I thought 1988 was great. The booking was kind of bizarre and uneven. I'd put '88 a notch below '89 because of that but it was a hell of a year in the ring.
  2. 1989 NWA - Aside from Flair-Steamboat, there wasn't much to write home about in the first four months. Then from May/June through the end of the year - damn. 1992 WCW 1986-1988 WWF - specifically June '86 through March '88 1984 Mid South
  3. Yeah, that response is great. That kind of thing apparently is not confined to pro wrestling. Here's an exchange between a fan and former GM of the Browns Phil Savage (who I believe was fired over this): Fan: "Macho Man" Phil Savage:
  4. Cornette should start a "break-up" service where you pay him to call your ex-wife/gf/bf or boss and he cuts a 10 minute promo on them to thoroughly and completely burn the bridge for you.
  5. How is the heat and humidity in Georgia, S Carolina, and that general region in September? Does it taper off by then or is it still insane? My wife and I are knocking around the idea of a road trip through the Southern US or to Montana and the Dakotas.
  6. It was blocked because apparently it is "offensive, crude, and tasteless" I also got blocked from a site that explained freebasing cocaine: "inappropriate content". The 3.26 MX-Fantastics match was their debut I think, but wasn't their first TV appearance the way the TV played out. Cornette had mentioned the Fantastics in promos for several weeks. On the 3.19 World Championship show, the Fantastics showed up for a studio interview, and they showed clips of the match including the finish, then MX came out and the two teams had a studio brawl. THEN the next week on Pro, 3.26, they show the match. Kind of a damper for all the people that already knew the outcome. Does anyone know if the Windham turn was the result of panic? This was right around the time when their accountant realized they were in deep financial shit. Plus, it blew the Crockett Cup all to hell, and actually aired after CCup Night 1. Always struck me as a very, very strange time to turn Barry. I think it would have been better to hold off on that turn another month or so. Good, fun show as usual. (I LOVE that dumpy fieldhouse-type venue that held the first Main Event tapings)
  7. Embarrassed to admit just how much I've been looking forward to this ep. Naturally, they've installed new filters at work and the show is blocked
  8. For the hell of it, here's the first picture of Dibiase in a WWF publication, September 1987 cover date. Subscribers would have received that issue in the mail the first week of August 1987. That's way earlier for a Dibiase WWF sighting than I would have thought. I did not find the photo used for the Mid South cover but am still 90% sure it's a WWF/Tom Taylor pic. Was 100% sure 8 hours ago, so total proof that it's a Mid-South picture should be right around the corner.
  9. What happened? "Cornette has had a falling out with __________" is something you can pretty much set your watch to.
  10. I gotta say, that PWI cover is certainly strong evidence in your favor.
  11. It's WWF era Ted. I can probably find that pic at home later tonight and verify one way or another. Care to place a wager now?
  12. No, it's WWF-era Jake. The Dibiase pic looks like late 87 or 88, WWF era as well. Not sure about JYD, I've never seen that picture before. I didn't want to bitch about the pictures not being era-specific, but since someone else brought it up. Aside from that, the cover seriously kicks ass.
  13. Yeah, that's enough, isn't it? It was for me anyway. I found it lame as a (lame) 11 year-old and find it borderline unwatchable as a 35 year-old asshole. Not a fan of any of his '89 promos, either (though they get better in the Luger feud). But then the matches start and all is forgotten in about 10 seconds, so it's really no big deal.
  14. I wholeheartedly disagree with your disagreement and agree that Steamboat's character sucked in 1989. Watching 1989 NWA TV now, it was hard to watch. I'm a huge Steamboat fan and the Flair-Steamboat matches were responsible for sealing the deal on my full-fledged lifetime wrestling addiction, but Steamboat's character sucked, and sucked hard, in 1989.

  16. I'd go with Steamboat, Luger, and Dusty. Went with Luger over Sting based on personally liking the Flair-Luger matches much more than Flair-Sting matches. Steamboat because their matches spanned three different decades (and were great matches, of course).
  17. What exactly is the Standard For Hotness if Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler are considered dogs?

  19. File this under "who cares". I took a poll here at work, 19 non-fans, and asked them for the first person they think of when they think of pro wrestling. These answers almost perfectly give away their general ages and locales: John Cena - 2 Hulk Hogan - 9 "Big Daddy" Shirley Crabtree - 2 "Bulldog" Bob Brown - 6 This is not made up.
  20. I like how that version of Ramon called for him to carry a razor blade around with him. What could possibly go wrong.
  21. Here it is!
