  6. This is fascinating stuff. I have too many questions, not really suited for a wrestling board. Is there a board somewhere that a know-nothing person can go to and ask questions without being driven away within 5 minutes? I see a guy like John Terry has spent his entire career with Chelsea. How often does a player stick with one team for his entire EPL career? What is the average career length for a top (or solidly above average) player that avoids major injury? Don't know a lot about Henry (but owning the Red Sox you can pretty much print your own money without much effort), but am amazed that that the Glazer clan was allowed to purchase a team. Do other owners have to vote in a new owner or is it whoever flashes the most cash/assets? I'd better stop with the questions here. I'll wear you out. Should I just buy Football Manager and learn that way? (it looks spectacular)
  7. Pretty much, aside from operating expenses. Wow, had no idea. So prospective owners know this going in and STILL buy a team? Why? Just so they can say they own one? (These are legit questions, not arguments) Are players on yearly contracts, multi-year deals, or something different? How many years will a top player play for a lower team before being snapped up by a top team? Is there compensation of any sort given to the lower team? Player trades? The easy answer is "yes". Green Bay is the only publicly owned team, so they are the only team required to release financial info. They magically declared a loss a couple of years ago which just happened to be during the negotiations with the Players Union on a new contract. Even the lowest, most incompetently run franchise will turn a profit in the NFL, and more than likely get a publicly funded stadium built for them to ensure their private profits. Assume any NFL owner claiming a loss is complete bullshit.
  8. Pretty clear IMO that it's Flair by a healthy margin. However I voted for Bret just to be a dick.

  12. Bruiser Brody & Bulldog Bob Brown vs Kamala & Ivan Putski, booked to a 60 minute draw
  13. No no, nothing of the sort. I just remember a few times where they didn't even trust him to get into the ring - attacking him in the aisle one time (WrestleWar ?). Then at a house show here in Wichita 05-07-1992, he came out for his match, could barely walk, barely made it into the ring, then won by count-out when Mr. Hughes "was too scared to come out for the match". He still got a GIANT pop when he came out and might have been the biggest pop of the night. Probably should have explained earlier.
  14. Shockingly JYD didn't pop any big numbers in '92 WCW (I'll leave now)
  15. That's been my theory for WCW kicking ass in 1992. Well not really a theory. It was a pretty awesome year quality-wise, but the fanbase had been burned so many times (screwjobs, countless changes in direction, etc) over the 5 previous years, that no one tuned in to give it another chance. WCW never seemed to give anything enough time to gain momentum. I guess this is pretty blantantly obvious though.
  16. Hey I don't mean to derail the current conversation, but this is the "little questions thread" after all. Why are there practically ZERO hardcore female fans of wrestling? Hardcore wrestling junkies span the globe and this little community here is one hell of a cross section. Aside from liking wrestling, the only other thing we all have in common is we're males. You can find hardcore female fans of all other sports and virtually all other areas of entertainment. Not wrestling. Why? Sorry if this has been debated to death years ago or something.
  17. Was interested in Parv's take on American Football being "communistic" in nature compared to the high leagues in European soccer. Which system do fans of each sport prefer? Would the EPL for example be a better league with some sort of salary cap or common draft that helps even out the competition for top players? Is it even remotely possible, with Main Event-level players and teams literally spanning the globe? How do fans of lower-card EPL teams cope year after year? Would the NFL be a better league if it was an open "capitalist" system of player acquisition? As an NFL fan, I think overall the salary cap UFA system is a good one. Nothing is ever going be totally balanced, large markets still hold advantages. The common draft is still where the majority of top talent is acquired. I like the idea of any team in the league having the capability of putting together a championship team. Does that idea appeal to soccer fans?
