  1. Gave driving directions to Faarooq and the Godfather once. They gave me a nod on their way to the ring later that night. I also burned a comp for Greg Valentine. That's as close as I've ever got.

  6. The only time I had free access to the TV was Saturday morning, and that's when Superstars was on. I was aware of the NWA but could only catch a match here or there on Sat/Sunday evenings when the parents weren't in command of the TV. Watching a full hour of TBS wrestling was my unattainable holy grail. The only NWA stuff any video store around here in the 80's had was PWI Ringmasters and 1985 GAB. It wasn't until the early 90's that Blockbusters popped up with NWA/WCW tapes and I rented every single one they had in order to get caught up on stuff that happened from 85-90.
  7. I'm definitely a "WWF guy", but always felt as a kid watching both promotions in the 80's that Crockett teams were painting with oils while WWF teams were scribbling on walls with Crayola. That might be a little harsh, but after rewatching a ton of WWF over the past 3 years, nothing really changed that opinion for me. Establishing that Crockett teams are the top of my list, I can't decide who the #1 is. Tully/Arn or Midnight Express. Then which version of MX? If we're allowed to consider managers a part of the team, I'd go with either version of MX over Tully/Arn, but not by much. The constant swirl of activity that comes with every Express match, supplied by Cornette's tireless work around ringside would probably lock them up as my #1. That trumps JJ with the tip of his glasses in his mouth, nodding approvingly in the corner. And it stops there for me. I'd have to rewatch a ton more Crockett to get a better foothold on things.
  8. Just asked my wife this same thing a few days ago, she is from Central America and grew up watching Lucha. Her answer was "Probably because they are drug addicted rapist pieces of shit". There's probably a better answer out there...
  9. Abraham's not a bad comparison, really. Pro Football Reference has Abraham 83rd and Alzado 87th among DE's. In Alzado games I've seen, there are a few where he really stands out, getting into the backfield and screwing things up, others when he kind of disappears. Abraham is more consistent than Alzado and more dangerous every play but is somewhat streaky as well. I'd put Abraham ahead of Alzado but I've seen way more of Abraham's work. Alzado was more of a "personality" so he's remembered by more people that watched back in that day. Both would be solid mid-to-upper midcarders who you could depend on to deliver a decent match, and guys that could be used on main events on occassion. Alzado cut better promos and had more charisma.
  10. Post with a different username out there. Those fuckers will follow you around and harass if you don't fall into line.

  12. Acquiring footage keeps me interested. There's SO MUCH I haven't seen. AWA, Portland, Florida, Lucha remained unseen by me, with small exceptions. There's all sorts of Japan stuff I'm just digging into as well. It's like putting a huge 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle together with no picture to go off of and 850 pieces missing. I like pretty much everything I've seen from the 80's, and most of the 90's. Saving 2000-present stuff will have to wait another decade before I'm ready to watch it.
