    Great Flair promo, probably his best of the year. In complete contrast with the rest of his WWF stuff.

    A simple vertical suplex could be considered a high spot, correct? And workrate is basically a measure of downtime, right? Like certain guys would be criticized for not being a workrate wrestler because they are always putting on chin locks and the like just to kill time? Whereas someone like Angle would be considered a workrate wrestler because the match keeps going, for better or worse? Also, in lucha, what exactly is a lightning match, and is that a kayfabe term that they use in Mexico, or is it insider terminology, like a sprint?

    I usually avoid having conversations with people about it, but if it comes up I will admit that I like pro wrestling. I avoid talking about it with people because it would just take too much time and work to explain why I like it. When I was a kid I would watch it with my mom a lot and talk to her about it all the time. She seemed to take an interest in it, but when I got older I realized she didn't actually enjoy it at all and was just being a good mom. I started a new job last summer, right around the time I started to really get back into wrestling. Anyway, I found out that a guy at work watches RAW every week and he told me that wrestling was his favorite thing. I talked to him about wrestling a few times and he told me that Sin Cara was his favorite wrestler and that he hated the Shield because they wouldn't leave CM Punk alone. I didn't to talk to him very much about it after that. He' told me the other day that he's dropping his Hulu account for the WWE Network when it comes out. My roommate loves wrestling though and it was partly because of him that I got back into it. Outside of this place, he's the only person I talk to extensively about wrestling. He found my coworker's viewpoint fascinating because its diametrically opposed to the perspective you find online. My girlfriend is bored to death by it but she will watch with me sometimes. She likes Tajiri & despises Ric Flair after seeing how he acted on an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap.

    Did anyone else notice how sick-looking that chair shot after the match was? Perfect just thrusts it right into Flair's face. The match was alright before the ending. This was treated like a TV main event and I think it would be looked at more favorably if it was.

    This was good but Vader continues to let me down. He gives his opponents too much too soon. There's an opportunity to build a lot of drama and excitement in his matches with underdog/unstoppable monster spots but he always lets his opponents get the advantage well before the build peaks.

    Wow. This angle was tremendously done. It sounds really simple on paper, but the execution is amazing. Calling this the angle of the year may seem silly, but when I look out how well it was done, it blows everything else away. Everyone plays their role just fine, but Perfect is good and Heenan makes the entire thing.

    This started out alright and slowly turned really good before it dropped off again. It becomes apparent after a while that this going to go the distance and the wrestlers were just killing time. If they had cut 10 minutes this could have been great. Even after they lose the audience they gain them back briefly with about 2 minutes before they stop caring again. Hat Guy looks really bored & Williams seems really motivated. I never got the hype about him before this yearbook but I'm starting to really like him.

    I haven't watched all of the shoot-style matches up to this point. From what I have watched, this is easily my shoot-style MOTY. I was on the edge of my seat from the get-go. I kept wanting Tamura to smack Yamazaki when they were tangled up and he finally did it near the end, prompting the stand-up. Fantastic match, really hot crowd.

    This is only the second Fujiwara match I've seen. His attitude and charisma made this match. The story and structure looks fine on paper but his execution takes it to the next level. Nothing mind-blowing, but it was cool.

    I keep looking at Sasaki on this set as a newcomer whose trying really hard, so it surprised me to read that he debuted in '86. He's definitely not a "natural" like Dustin Rhodes, but I respect his effort. With that said I thought this was really good.

    Lawler showing up in ECW at Wrestlepalooza and taking out half the roster with RVD and Sabu. I didn't see it when it happened, but I had the show on dvd when I was a kid and had no idea idea it was going to happen. The whole sequence it set up with Taz fighting Sabu and then Douglas was so exciting and I used to watch it all the time.

    This was fun, but not outstanding. Very fluid action for the first 2 falls before it broke down in the third and got chaotic. That's not a criticism though. It felt like a natural progression. My favorite part was the standoff between Hamada and Black Power early on.

    This was underwhelming. I'm really surprised to see such high praise for it. I'm no lucha expert, but I've seen a lot of lucha that I thought was easily miles ahead of this. All of Astro's spots required way too much obvious cooperation from Panther and nothing about this excited me at all. Astro did some cool dives and their was some cool mat work at the beginning but this just seemed like two guys going out and slowly doing moves with awkward pauses in between like they were going through a rehearsal for a match they were going to have later.

    I was really put off by the way Flair sells the leg work. He does it in the most superficial way possible, walking like he is in pain, but not changing his offense one bit in a way that reflects what happened. Then after a few minutes he's completely fine. Anyway, there were some good moments. Decent match. I thought the end of the match where Bret drops the straps was great. It looks like Bret says, "Fucking A!" into the camera when he's putting the belt on.

    I never knew Douglas got the bell-to-belly from Magnum. Interesting that he kept it for so long. Within the context of his character work in ECW, it would have made a lot of sense for him to move on from that and start using something else.

    He pops up ALL the time in big matches. Outside of the nWo stuff, could you point me towards some examples?

    I have never hated a referee more. He is always involving himself way too much in the action. Not in a Tommy Young way either. I think Young can ad to a match with his physicality. Nick Patrick is just always in the way, blocking movement, crowding the screen, motioning with his hands way too much. I can't stand him. He gets too close when he counts pinfalls, getting right up to the wrestlers. Its very distracting. I realize that part of it could also be his size. He is bigger than most referees, but still. Does anyone else feel this way? There are plenty of times I will get annoyed by a referee and lo and behold, it turns out to be Patrick, so I know I am not just picking on him. I think maybe the fact that he used to be a wrestler but got injured contributed a lot to his over-involvement.

    I thought the Moondogs feud was over at this point. It was nice to see JYD. Were they just bringing the Moondgos back to try to rekindle interest and boost attendance again?

    Reallllly liked the arm work segment. Jake's selling was great. All the little stuff he did to put over the arm work was so simple that it makes you wonder why more people don't do it. Good match.

    At this point Dirty White Boy is my favorite wrestler/character in Smokey Mountain with Ron White & the Studd Stable not too far behind in the character department. The Studd Stable's promo was great. I like that someone gets heat with a bunch of hillbilly fans while saying drugs are bad. The image it creates is really interesting. The Tim Horner hanging was cool, but there's no way I could get behind him in a sustained main event role.

    I liked the match. It was solid, but it got worse as it went on, which is funny because the crowd got more and more into it. Sasaki brought the least to the match, but you could tell he was trying. It was always a lot more interesting when Hase was in there. The beginning was especially good, I thought. I liked how Hase used his technical prowess to take on both Steiners before they were finally able to stop him with their sheer power. The ending was anticlimactic, but at least the match ended at about the right time. All those botched frankensteiners were painful to watch. I'd really like to see that '91 match you all are talking about.

    I've got to give a lot of respect to Chono for continuing the match after that. Since Austin was upset with Owen for never apologizing to him, does anyone know if Austin ever apologized to Chono, or how he feels about the accident?

    I enjoyed the match but there was something missing here. The way they structured the match and the way they wrestled would indicate that there was a lot of animosity between the two teams, but the actual execution was done without much emotion or intensity and there was't much heat. Blocking the Oklahoma Stampede the same way twice was a bit much. Although I liked the way it was done the second time better than the first. When he was able to actually do the move, Williams looked dainty running back and forth across the ring and the there wasn't much impact. Fun but kind of disappointing and awkward.

    Fun match even though it did feel rushed and there were some really bad moments. Nothing special overall but there were some nice segments here. I liked everything Rude did, especially when he snuck away after hitting Rick Steiner with the Rude Awakening. Vader's strikes at the beginning on Rick were sick. I really disliked the way the two of them haphazardly transitioned to the outside for the Rick Steiner elimination after the botched Doomsday Device. That was horrible and awkward. So were Super Invader's movements. The last elimination was really well done.

    When people talk about a wrestler having good transitions or something being a good transition move or spot, what do they mean exactly? Is the spot that moves from the babyface shine segment to the heat segment a transition?
