There were parts of this I loved and parts of this that I absolutely hated. Overkill is the right word. Tenryu's charisma and presence adds so much and he's always willing to make other people look good but I don't think he should have kicked out of so much big stuff here. It cheapened the importance of a lot of it, like Goto's finisher onto the table. While I enjoyed much of the match, I don't see this as a match of the year contender but I can see why some people would.

Yeah, I realized that right after I posted it.

[1990-WWA] El Hijo del Santo & Blue Demon Jr vs Eddy & Mando Guerrero
DR Ackermann replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
I have to disagree with a lot of people saying Mando was the worst guy here. If you thought that then you had to have had a bias against him coming into this. Demon clearly sucked. I've never seen so many slaps. The other three made up for Demon's obvious lack of talent and did a really good job carrying this match. It wasn't anything too crazy, but they did a really good job. I actually think Mando's performance stood out here. I wouldn't argue if you disagreed with that, but Mando held up his end of this match. Mando sold for both guys and at the same time made it seem like a fight with some great brawling.- 21 replies

Fun match. It was cool to see Ultimo before he was Ultimo. That being said, he wasn't very good here and he never seemed to get much better. He's an athletic guy who can do some cool spots, everything else in this match seemed really difficult for him. This was a nice tease for the rest of the guys in the match. Excited to see a lot more from all of them.

Is it a list of every match you liked or just the matches that you really liked and stood out?

There is so much talent in this match. Six all-time great workers plus Zbyszko & Sting. I'm not knocking Zbyszko, I just haven't seen that much of him. What I have seen has been a lot better than the reputation he has and I would place him over Sting, who I'm not that big a fan of. Sting isn't horrible and can be good, but he is definitely the weakest worker of this bunch. Dustin Rhodes has already surpassed him at this point despite only a few years in the game. Anyway I think the amount of talent here is just too much for a match of this length to contain. Nobody gets enough time to really build this up and make anything special happen. We get a few flashes of brilliance and a lot of little moments that show how talented these guys are and what they're capable of. The match is fun AND good for what it is, but it's really a teaser for everything we're going to get out of these guys this year.

Of all the Los Cowboys trios matches thus far, this has been the weakest for me. I loved the first one, liked the second, and was kind of indifferent to this one. Maybe my expectations were too high after seeing the praise it got, but this just seemed like a big mess with a bunch of cool, complex spots.

After doing a relatively quick run-through (took a few months) I'm going back and watching most of the stuff that I skipped the first time through (which is a lot.) So far I have really learned to appreciate Ricky Steamboat & Rick Rude. I liked Steamboat when I was a kid, but a lot of his offense turns me off nowadays and Rude has always been too shticky for me. I like both of them a lot more now. I still have issues with them, but Rude's shtick is part of what makes him great & Steamboat is great despite his hokey-looking offense. Its fitting that they're feuding on this set because they perfectly represent how a face and and heel are supposed to work at their most basic levels and they both do a wonderful job.

I want to echo everything that PeteF3 said. I want to add that while I enjoyed the match, I didn't like how quickly Armstrong recovered after the FIP segment. All that selling meant nothing after he got the hot tag to Norton. Norton was really limited her so I think that probably factored into Armstrong being so involved and no-selling, as I don't think Norton could have made his hot tag offense as compelling on his own. I also have to disagree with Loss on the double vertical suplex. The idea was great but the execution was botched and it didn't look very good at all.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
DR Ackermann replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Has anyone watched all of the Inoki vs Saito Island Death Match from 1987? If so, how was it? -
I work with a grown man who knows absolutely no "insider" information. He watches WWE as a hobby and likes the good guys, hates the bad guys, etc. I asked him who his favorite wrestlers were a few months ago and he said Randy Savage all-time, but currently Goldust, Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio.

Who would make the all-time worst referees list? We've got Manning, Barr and Patrick as potential candidates. I haven't seen (or noticed) Manning before, but I've seen a little bit of Barr and he was pretty bad. I remember him no-selling a punch from Ed Wiskowski.
-
Just watched Tommy Rich vs Cuban Assassin from Halloween Havoc 89 and Patrick is moving back and forth the entire time and won't stop pointing every time someone is put in a hold. Its all I can pay attention to. I really, really hate him.

Regal vs Ultimo Dragon from SLamboree 97 is a lot of fun and action packed. It might really appeal to him and be outside the box of what he's used to. -

I'm not very familiar with Muta in WCW, so I can't recommend anything there. As far as wild violence goes how about the Cactus Jack & Maxx Payne vs the Nasty Boys from that same show? -
This isn't a question of terminology, but how is AAA's name perceived in Mexico? Asistencia AsesorÃa y Administración means "Advice and management assistance" according to babelfish and "Assistance, Consulting, and Administration" according to wikipedia. In Mexico how does that relate to pro wrestling and how/why is that the name of the promotion?

I would cut the Austin/Muta match. I think it will bore him. Muta mails it in. If he likes spot fests and is intrigued by the idea of Japanese wrestling, why not the Michinoku Pro 6-man tag from ECW Barely Legal? -
Let me rephrase that. What do you think are the chances that HHH actually ends up beating Bryan at Wrestlemania?
-
Does anyone think there's a chance that HHH goes on to defeat Bryan at Wrestlemania?

Good show! I was really surprised by Dallas/Neville. I didn't have any expectations and it turned out to be really good. I wasn't able to see the main event last night so I'm going to have to re-watch Zayn/Cesaro and see how they compare, which isn't something I thought I would be saying. The women's match was solid as well, but I hate everything about the Ascension.
-
Yeah, mine cut out for that match too.

I got the same thing, but I tried to log in and it worked. So maybe try that. The only thing is nothing will play right now for me.

So you've got the King of Cable Finals, Battle Bowl and the Lethal Lottery all on one show. Plus the WCW World Title and the NWA World Title being defended. There is so much going on here that everything seems meaningless. WCW has some good stuff going on in-ring wise, but Watts has WCW in a shit hole right now. You've got a mid-carder World champion defending against a mid-card tag team wrestler that the fans don't care about. Why? Because Watts had success with JYD so he tries to throw every black guy he can at the proverbial wall to see who sticks, and because Watts has always had a fascination with big bruising athletes like Williams (probably where Jim Ross gets it). It doesn't matter at all what the fans want. I really liked the idea of Watts coming in and always felt like he got a bad rap, but he wasn't going to be successful and for everything he did that was good, he did just as much that was garbage.

I give it a thumbs up, but the lack of selling down the stretch hurts it a bit for me. Pretty fun instead of pretty good.
