[1990-06-07-Hamada's UWF] Negro Casas vs Yoshinari Asai
DR Ackermann replied to Loss's topic in June 1990
This was a good. I liked it wayyyy better than Santo/Guerrera. This reminds me of the Dragon/Regal match from Slamboree 97 in that one guy is really working to hold the match together and is constantly trying to keep it good while Asai is actively bringing down the match whenever he's not restrained. Asai is all about atheltic spots with no semblance of meaning or selling. In the final stretch he just shrugs off all the damage and just rushes into all of his moves like nothing has happened. Dragon gets away with a lot of stuff that Tiger Mask would be condemned for. I do like him more than Tiger Mask though.- 14 replies

MIsawa / Tiger Mask II / Tenryu / Kawada AJPW Questions.
DR Ackermann replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
How does the Tenryu heel turn work? I saw when he and Jumbo lost the tag titles to the Road Warriors. Then I watched him and Waijima wrestle Tiger Jeet Singh & Texas Red in what was supposed to be his heel turn. It was just a really boring match and Tenryu didn't seem to care about Waijima. Am I missing something? I always thought for some reason that he attacked Jumbo or walked out on him during a match. -

[1995-12-27-WCW-Starrcade '95] Eddy Guerrero vs Shinjiro Otani
DR Ackermann replied to Loss's topic in December 1995
They were booing Ohtani's celebration, not the plancha itself. This was OK, if directionless and dull. I think the fans wanted to give it a chance, but the action was never really engaging in anyway.- 12 replies

Does anyone know why Sheamus might be in Tulsa, OK right now? A friend just sent me a picture of him at a bar downtown.

I've been watching Andre in Japan today and I will say this; Andre is definitely a smarter wrestler than Vader. He knows how to get a lot more out of the little things.
-
Whew. Now that we've got that settled I can't vote either way. Haven't seen enough Andre.
-
Andre's the 8th Wonder not the 7th Wonder!!
-
I thought it was Footloose at first, too, but didn't he go on to say that it was the Bulldogs or did I just misunderstand him?
-
He wrestles like/plays the role of a big man.

I think the Triple Crown was still represented by all 3 physical belts until last year, right?
-
And to answer your post, I would say that before its downfall the NWA World title was definitely the most prestigious and important world title ever.
-
The Triple Crown is made up of the NWA United National, the NWA International Heavyweight and the Pacific Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight titles.

Man, their are so many good talkers in the Texas branch of USWA at this point. Matt Borne is incredible here. To counterpoint all that awesomeness is the Texas champion, Kerry Von Erich. Some people just aren't good talkers but Kerry comes off as a complete moron when he opens his mouth. Even Eric Embry isn't great in the traditional sense, but his character comes out really well in his promos to the point that I would call him good. Kerry just feels like a disingenuous tool. So far he's number one for worst talker in 1990, just ahead of Warrior and then Hogan.

Dustin Rhodes is just as great as the hot tag as he is the FIP.

I see what you're saying. I'm not arguing definitively for Andre or Vader over the other. I've been really impressed by both and disappointed too. I've seen some Andre that points to him being really great in his prime, but on the other hand, if I had only seen Vader vs Sting I would have the same feeling.
-
I considered mentioning Baba, but I think that he's more about significance than work which has become the thread split, and he can't compete with Andre there. I've seen more good Baba than I have Andre. The best Baba match (vs Billy Robinson) I've seen was better than the best Andre (vs Stan Hansen) I've seen.
-
Don't those stories come from old wrestlers though? The same guys who when talking about work, talk about Dory Funk as an all-time great worker? Would we really put much into what they had to say about him as a worker either way?
-
I get the comparison you are making and I think its accurate in some ways, but the results are different. The Tiger Mask footage has people saying he was overrated and has an undeserved reputation whereas old Andre footage impresses people and has them saying, "Wow, he was a lot better than I thought. This isn't the same Andre I saw on TV as a kid."
-
Good point. Speaking of Japanese wrestling, I completely overlooked Baba. He has to be in the discussion.
-
I give him credit for being willing and able to bump, but a lot of the time I am taken out of the match by it. His Sting matches are awesome though, and most wrestlers don't have anything that good on their resume. In the context of Japanese wrestling, wouldn't Jumbo Tsuruta be a big man?
-
I like Vader and I think he's got to be a Top 10 all-time offensive wrestler, but I like him less and less each time I see him. He can do everything well mechanically. Like Loss said, he is a great bumper, but my issue with him is how, when and why he bumps. He gives his opponents wayyy too much. The first sign of offense they show and he's flying all around the ring, usually going over the top rope before he cuts them off. Of course Vader should be in the conversation, but I think that if he is the best big man ever, then the bar isn't that high. But I haven't seen a whole lot of his Japanese work. Mark Henry, on the other hand is someone who I am liking more and more every time I see him. I think he plays his role wonderfully.
