Watching the Rock vs Mankind I quit match from 99 Royal Rumble and man maybe this is because I am older but damn the ending of this match is really hard to watch. Don't remember how I felt back then but ten brutal unprotected chair shots to the head is just nuts. Of course maybe it is uneasy to watch after watching Beyond the Mat and knowing how much his brain was scrambled in that phone call and that his family was in the crowd.

I guess you definition of "biggest angle" is vague. I mean Raven vs Dreamer and Taz vs Sabu was a feud he built for over 2 - 3 years. That was clearly the most known angle/storyline in the ECW history. Were they legendary feuds in history probably not but there wasn't anybody in ECW that could create a Bret vs Shawn or Flair vs Dusty like feud. Like I said before, Heyman greatest strength is that he took average guys or guys near the end of the road and made his big stars. Scott Levy in 1994 wasn't much of anything after his Johnny Polo stuff but Raven resurrected his career. Guys like the Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Dudleys probably would have mediocre careers if it wasn't the character build-up that Heyman was responsible for.

Given it is the Observer fanbase, I am surprised that Gabe didn't get some votes. Not saying he should by the way I voted for Jerry Jarrett for his long term work of Memphis in the 80's and his resurrection of Texas in 1989 and maybe late 1988. I am not including his early TNA stuff because I don't know if he actually booked TNA in year one. Have no problem with Heyman as a top 3 booker. You have to credit Heyman because he was able to take guys with marginal talent or a terrible look and make them stars albeit just internet stars. Personally I found Heyman booking in OVW for that 6 month period of 2005-2006 I think was his best stuff.

I think he saves the "goofy southern guy doing a fake tough act" for the commercials. Listen to him do a radio commercial is part serious mode and part Austin 3:16 mode is awesome

Based on that then shouldn't Bryan Alvarez be working for the Torch Yeah I don't care about a person's writing style in wrestling I care more about his opinions and facts based on that in wrestling. Dave has never reached the level of his writing where you look at it and go "well clearly he is too dumb to be taken seriously"

From watching from Highspots TV showing of Barbed Wire City I have a hypothetical. If the concept of an internet PPV was around during the pre-TNN or after TNN days of ECW, how much could it have helped the long term success of the company. They did make a ton of money from tape sales (hell probably kept them in business some of the times) but we all know the history of RF video during that time. Of course I guess an argument could made that current companies like ROH or Dragon Gate or CZW aren't really raking in the dollars with buyrates either. I don't know how much well these New Japan Ustream or Youtube shows are making

One thing that was brought up in the Q&A (other wise known as the Blue meanie show Also watching the documentary it gives me hope to be taken seriously in wrestling because damn there are some ugly/goofy people covering wrestling these days. I mean when Meltzer looks the most normal you have issues.

So I just watched the premiere on Highspots TV (still waiting for the Q&A portion of the show). This is a really good documentary on ECW. Not even close to the WWE version of the ECW documentary but so much better than Forever Hardcore it is almost embarrassing. The two things that make this so much better was that they had RF video footage to use and some really good footage not just from 2001 when most of the early interviews were done. Also had some TWA footage. They had footage of the Arena the day of Barely Legal showing the fans, and production trucks, and wrestlers coming in that I have no idea who shot that but was awesome to see. The other things was that instead of a few people like Raven and Shane and Tod there was input from lots of different people like Public Enemy, Meltzer, Wade Keller, Tony Lewis, Atlas Security, Sign Guy Dudley (cant remember real name) and Axl Rotten who although he is a fat mess with bells palsy now was a very articulate and thoughtful guy in 2001. Plus they had footage from the fan cam Q&A so it wasn't completely void of Heyman. The only negative I have with this documentary was showing Extreme Reunion first show and how it was built. I give them credit for not completely glorifying it and treating it like the complete shit it was (even showing footage of Sabu being taken to the hospital and Raven talking to people about the drugs he was on) but except for the Jerry Lynn part seemed useless. Although I thought the footage of Tony Lewis from strictly ECW talking about the feeling stepping in the building was cool to see. The other thing looking back that was really ignored was the use of women of ECW. Except for pictures and Missy Hyatt talking about bringing in Heyman for Gilbert there was nothing If you are sick of hearing about ECW then don't see the DVD because there is nothing you haven't seen a lot already. But if you are an ECW or a wrestling documentary fan then I would recommend getting the DVD or watch on Highspots TV. Although when to get the DVD I am not sure about when because I have a feeling this is going to get the Beyond the Mat treatment where there will be 3 or 4 different versions. I know the extras currently announced is really weak given how much footage was done. Good work on this from all the people involved. Oh: During the movie they were showing prints of the Wrestling Lariat I think and one of the headlines was "Fans dies in ECW hotel party". Well that got my attention. Anybody know something about that.

Based on the videos of him as a kid, I have to disagree with that one. He was pretend wrestling with his friends all the time and had fake belts and fake shows. Maybe he didn't want to be a wrestler as his #1 career path like a Shawn Michaels but he definitely grew up as one

I don't have any of the Japan sets (from reading this thread I suppose that new Japan should be my next set to get ) but out of the Texas, Mid South, and memphis sets that I have bought, I would put memphis ahead ONLY because of the amazing quality of extras. If we were to base the sets only on the top 150 then in my opinion Mid South blows away Memphis from top to bottom. While the top 5 - 10 of memphis is some of the best wrestling in the 80's regardless of set, the bottom 20 or 30 in the Memphis set were pretty weak matches that catch your interest and then completely forgotten when the next match occurs. If Mid South had more extras (not saying they suck just wish there was more), it would be my #1. I think what hurts Texas set for me is that I have seen 75% of it already sometimes many many times. Of course my voting may change if the hype for this Alabama/other territories set is as good as advertised

If they would have gone after anyone, I would think B Brown Video would first on the list with all of the WWE, World Class, Mid South, ECW, and other Vince bought company TV sets for sale as well as WWE house show and stuff that look to have been copied from 24/7. But maybe they mind that stuff. I was glad of the selection at Wrestlecon because I was worried it was just going to be one big Highspots table, autographs, and nothing else. I also like that Wrestlecon made a program since I am a mark for those things. My only negative is that building itself or specifically the people working the tickets at the building. From telling me that there was no bathrooms, to telling me I couldn't go to the ATM IN THE BUILDING because there was no re-entry, to having to explain that change back on a $20 for the $5 wrestling show was $15, it was a sight. Plus apparently they were not set up for IPPV internet wise and just drove Gabe crazy. Eventually they got it taken care of but wonder how much they spend for that. Some other things: 1. Except for the headaches with setup of IPPV and running way too late, EVOLVE was real fun. Hated the booking of Sami vs Chuck Taylor match but the right people won. 2. First ever PWS show and it is definitely a mix of fun shit with current and past wrestlers and students who shouldn't be allowed between the rope. The two highlights of the show was New Jack starting the Hardcore Rumble by doing a headlock, armdrag, bodyslam sequence on Tommy Dreamer and this weird shit involving Colt Cabana/Kevin Matthews/some retarded fan who hates Cabana/Shelly Martinez taping the retard going crazy on her IPAD. If this isn't some kind of angle then it was extremely douchey to watch 3. CZW was pretty good except for an awful Greg Excellent/Colt Cabana comedy match. Was extremely impressed by this Sumerian Death Squad team from WXW against the Christ Brothers. Jun Kasai is absolutely crazy taking face shots into a board of Gusset plates. Gusset plates by the way is easily the sickest death match weapon out there. When that had the skin you can see the blood splatter. 4. Why Chikara decided to run a show at 4:00 on Saturday makes no sense. I mean time wise there isn't much to do unless they run Shimmer around 10 AM but most people only saw half of the show. 5. Trying to explain $5 wrestling and Freight train to people who haven't seen $5 wrestling is tough. I mean the MST 3000 stuff is obvious but the Jake Manning vs Freight train match which was just terrible but the crowd went apeshit for is confusing. Really fun weekend of shows. Will be interesting to see how they handle New Orleans next year because they definitely advertised it. 5.

Thursday - PWS show Friday - Evolve and CZW. Maybe go to NYC beforehand to look around the area. Don't have any plans before Evolve Saturday - Hall of Fame, probably half of Chikara show because I want to get to HOF early, $5 wrestling Sunday - Dragon Gate & Wrestlemania Hopefully I see some other stuff around the area but to honest except for NYC I don't see much sightseeing. I want to see the convention part of Wrestlecon but every time I go to one it turns into one huge Highspots booth and is boring after a half hour.
