How do you not love that match? Love the old American Dream theme too, added that much more to the moment
-
Ambrose is absolutely awesome outside the ring. Love that guy

Bret/Bulldog at Summerslam '92 and Bret/Tom Magee are the first that come to mind

Nice analysis! Jindrak's coat shoulders are way too wide but yeah, he doesn't look as ridiculous as Orton. In fact Orton's coat looks bigger than Jindrak's. HHH had that godawful friz-hair up until I believe his the DX reunion in 2006 (?), when he finally switched conditioners (or started using it at all). He started straightening his hair sometime around his return from quad injury #2 at Summerslam 2007 I believe and wow this is way more than I thought I'd ever write about HHH's hair. Also, Chono clearly wins that style-off in that picture there. Misawa may come close but he's gotta fix the length on those pants. -

Jindrak too. I assume that picture is Flair and HHH walking them out of JCPenneys and to an Armani Exchange? -
One of the all-time what-ifs in wrestling. I'm still bitterly disappointed that Owen didn't have an extended run as a top babyface, as an eventual Austin program with him as champ with their history would've been amazing. Another similar case like this is Matt Hardy coming back in 2005. He had the infamous sink-or-swim promo where he promptly sank. I was all ready to make the comparison, saying Owen didn't have the babyface promo skills to sustain a top run, but watching this segment again proved me wrong.

Nikolai Volkoff comes out... Obvious choice but 1992 Royal Rumble gets my vote for best commentary ever. It has anything and everything you could want -- a huge sense of urgency, excitement, history, importance and at least 10-12 laugh out loud moments.

They could potentially do both by putting the title on HHH, which would no doubt piss off absolutely everyone

In hindsight, it seems like there was a strange parallel going on between Bret in WWF and Flair in WCW: two legends crassly shoved aside for political reasons

[1997-10-13-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage
s1rweeze replied to Loss's topic in October 1997
Was this the promo that had Hogan saying, "I'll be sitting next to Ted Turner at the Oscars" in reference to Assault on Devil's Island? That line still makes me laugh and my dad still references it to this day. -
I was there live and to this day, DDP giving Savage a Diamond Cutter on the floor is the loudest spontaneous crowd roar I've ever heard at a wrestling event. I think my ears are still ringing.

He's not a "star" at all, but when I saw the thread subject the name that immediately came to mind was Miz. By that I mean he's totally manufactured and wholly inorganic.

Couldn't help but Ctrl+F "business." Disappointed it was only 16, I was hoping for over 20.

So was this actual *gasp* great planning by WCW? The Bulls had just won their 5th NBA title right there in that arena three days before this.

To be fair to Berzerker, he may have gotten some bad advice (presumably from Fuji) that led to his attempted murder of the Undertaker in the middle of the ring in front of 8,000+ people. You're not doing yourself any favors with Jack Tunney with that sort of behavior.
-
You mean you're not fired up for his B-movie acting and puppy dog faces? I'm afraid of this happening too, leading to Shawn/HHH round 999.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaand there's your worst case scenario

Punk/Lesnar - I was annoyed at Punk's almost defiant lack of selling in the first part of the match but man, this was friggin GREAT. Best match I've seen since... well, Cena/Lesnar last year.
-
Late to the action here but man, Del Rio/Christian had that crowd rocking. Christian is an outstanding babyface worker. Am I crazy or was the post match Del Rio promo an honest attempt at a Bret Hart/Canada 1997 kind of a thing?

Darren Young comes out as gay in TMZ airport interview
s1rweeze replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
I feel good for him feeling comfortable enough to come out. What are everyone's thoughts on Young as a wrestler? It would be nice to see him get a push based on his talent instead of the PR he'll be getting for this. In fact I hope they don't even mention that he's gay on any WWE TV, if that makes sense. -
I'll always be partial to Royal Rumble for Super Nintendo, just for the fact that you can beat up the ref. Hence my avatar. I was so amazed and entertained by that, I spent entire matches beating the crap out of that poor guy. I know everyone raves about No Mercy but I was always partial to Wrestlemania 2000.

There was absolutely a "my team vs. your team" vibe back then. I'll never forget the WWF AOL message board flipping out over Waltman coming back while the WCW commenters we're immediately defensive and said things like, "You guys are marking out over the 1-2-3 Kid? Really?" It felt like Packers fans getting ornery over the Vikings signing a longtime Packer.

You just laid it out right there -- put KOTR in the current MITB spot, winner of the tournament gets a title shot at Summerslam (didn't they do that a couple times? I seem to remember that's how Lesnar got his shot in '02), and MITB moves to November, Survivor Series gets the axe. -

Well, clay doesn't lend itself to a viewer friendly brand of tennis, it's grinding and ugly (hence why a buzzsaw like Nadal has been able to win it 8 times)
