[1991-12-27-GWF] Eddie Gilbert vs Terrence Garvin (No DQ, 2/3 falls)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Another two out of three falls match. Garvin gets a real quick pin to start. Fine enough TV type match. They don’t show the actual fireball as they jump to the crowd instead. Not sure how this was No DQ since it really wasn’t played up in match.- 6 replies

After almost two years of beating each other up, Lynn agrees to get down on knees in amateur wrestling position and Kid promptly kicks him in the ribs. I didn’t like the stips because one of the moves is a submission and the other is an impact move. Then you make it two of out three falls on top of that so you're extending yourself on a match that can only be won by two moves.

[1991-12-27-WCW-East Rutherford, NJ] Jushin Liger vs Brian Pillman
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
They wrestled like they were on PPV/TV. Liger was holding nothing back. Throwing out all types of high risk moves. Really good match that the crowd enjoyed and was very positive to it. Would have enjoyed seeing this one live in person.- 11 replies

I wish Berbick had knocked Takada’s head off with a punch. In the end both guys look bad with Berbick’s whining and Takada purposely ignoring the rules set forth.

[1991-12-21-WCW-Saturday Night] Ricky Steamboat vs Steve Austin
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
When Ross is on commentary solo he spends a good deal of time promoting stuff. Austin looked much better offensively than matches earlier in year. Both him and Steamboat looked excellent during the three consecutive clothesline section. The finish worked as we got the tease pinfall win for Steamboat for only decision to get reversed and then Austin DQ'd. Just continued things on. Windham makes yet another post match appearance but this time the Alliance get the better for him.- 8 replies

Cactus and Abdullah will be okay on the opposite sides at Battlebowl. Doesn’t matter to Cactus if Sting or Hammer are his tag partners. I wish WCW would explain more how Battlebowl works. Also, who exactly is in it.

Richard Lee is so scummy. What a beating those jobbers took. It’s on the quick side but they still took their licks. Blood all over the studio floor. Clip Fuller takes the Demolition Decapitation with a bone shot from the Moondogs. He takes a stretcher after. Great promo by Fuller who is emotional talking his family and wrestling and how his career was almost ended. But the Moondogs didn’t get the job done and Fuller will be back. The Memphis studio must be one of the most dangerous places in the U.S. with all these multiple weekly assaults.

[1991-12-21-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry vs Tom Prichard
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Miss Texas with the flying shoulder tackle on CJ outside the ring. CJ should be no challenge for Miss Texas. Pritchard hit Embry with five piledrivers after the match. Embry best be showing up on TV with a neck brace. -
[1991-12-21-WWF-Superstars] Update: Royal Rumble update
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
And they put Jake on first with that comment. Outside of Jake they must be starting at the bottom as far as the guys they picked to do the first promos hyping the Rumble.- 11 replies

Arn puts the breaks on for a charge before hitting the turnbuckle. He lets us know how smart he is before getting his face rammed non stop into the turnbuckle. The faces are bending the rules in this match and take any cheap shot they can. Tension is really starting to grow amount the guys. Heels get the win they need to get this feud going towards 92. Barry makes another post match appearance going after Arn.

Rude doesn’t think Sting can get the Scorpion Death lock on him. Sting’s charming goofiness continues as he has two words for Rude. “Come here.... pal”. Rude gets the quick advantage but Sting fights back and does indeed get the Scorpion Death lock on. Wrestlers from the locker room empty to try pull Sting off. He finally lets up. Things have picked up more between these two.

Norton did well on hitting his big power moves and then tagging out so as to not overstay his welcome. He liked to twist his opponents in the guard rail as much as possible. Hase looks recovered from his Island Death Match. Mutoh with the moonsault over Hash to win. Crowd loved it.

[1991-12-15-WCW-Main Event] Young Pistols vs The Patriots
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
I wonder why the titles were even on The Patriots. They feel like such a lower level tag team. Two tag team titles are not necessary for where division is. Credit to Young Pistols for turning this into an okay match but Champion and Chip brought next to nothing to match.- 8 replies

Madusa’s outfits could be bad at times. Eaton bumps well for Steamboat’s armdrags. Ricky has a Octopus hold on and Eaton gets out of it with a move similar to Sheamus’ White Noise. I liked Eaton hitting the back suplex after Steamboat pulled himself back over the ropes. The close falls at the end were great with Steamboat finally getting the win. Enjoyed this match. Austin attacks the ring after but Windham makes a quick save.

[1991-12-14-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry vs Tom Prichard
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Pritchard avoids a couple of the usual heel cheating spots and hits Embry with the Texas flag. CJ gets in the ring and rubs her feet on Pritchard's back. That or she was trying to kick him. Pritchard finally goes down as Embry hits him with the purse. -
[1991-12-14-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Kamala
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Paul Neighbors should be fired for beating up a manager instead of being in the ring refereeing the match. Lawler should be pissed off. Sandman catches a big wave into the ring and hits Lawler with a clumsy surfboard shot. Surfboard isn’t the easiest weapon for a run in. -
[1991-12-14-WCW-Main Event] Wrestler of the Year
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Blassie sighting on TV. Bret must have won the award 91 through 94. Unless they gave 92 to Savage. Hogan seemed like the choice for 91 but they probably wanted to reward Bret and highlight his push. -
With no belt on Hogan, I was wondering about possible upset by Tenryu. I don’t know if I’d call it the best Hogan match but it is a worthy consideration on a best of comp for him. Hogan being able to adjust so well to Japan just makes you wish he’d have mixed it up more in the Sates. There different audiences but he could have done more. His finishes in US can be too predictable. Here I was guessing and really enjoyed the close counts. Tenryu kept getting up and Hogan had to give him everything to final put down. Great performance by both guys.

[1991-12-08-Monterrey] Trio Fantasia vs Los Thundercats
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
The ring looks dirty but that could be the fuzzy video. They use quick camera cuts through out match which adds to the out of control feeling. We also get a bowling game going where guys are tossed into the crowd with the purpose of knocking down as many chairs as possible. Lots of mask ripping and blood by the third fall. Them hugging it out at the end was humorous with what they were doing to each other during match.- 10 replies

[1991-12-08-NJPW] Hiroshi Hase vs Tiger Jeet Singh (Island Death)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Bizarre set up. Even though it is a controlled environment with no fans you still have certain security holding back the photographers. We get a boat horn going off at one point. Being all bloody with open wounds and rolling around in the grass and dirt can’t be fun. So after all that, Hase jumps on a boat to leave the island. Hope he is not sea sick.- 12 replies

[1991-12-07-WCW-Saturday Night] Sting vs Rick Rude
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
I wonder if they focused on knee a lot during match as thought Sting seemed fine from what was shown before finish. Sting press slams Rude over the top rope to the floor in front of the referee. That’ll earn him a disqualification. Plancha right after was a nice touch. After match, Rude then goes to work on Sting’s knee.- 7 replies

[1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Eric Embry and Tom Prichard
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
I thought that was Eddie Gilbert attacking Pritchard. Haven’t got used to this new look of Eric’s. Embry didn’t like Tom talking about his personal life. Only he can talk about it like he did on an earlier segment. -
[1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Kamala
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Dave Brown advises of the one hour limit on World title matches. Kamala flips the announcers desk up on it’s side and then runs Lawler into it. Referee is very lenient with the brawling outside ring. What I figured would be a real quick match actually gets some time. Lawler uses a fireball but instead of getting disqualified he has his title held up by referee. Marlin makes some good points regarding Frank Morrell’s decision making. Referees under the gun of late. -
[1991-12-07-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Eric Embry
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
No more Tojo with Embry. Looked it up and see that he had health issues from this point which is sad. Embry all cleaned up. He must have a job interview set up later in the day. Embry also acting more calm. I was not recognizing CJ at first. It's not the best sell of hair stipulation. -
Tunney throws referee under the bus for his call at Tuesday in Texas. He won’t overturn the decision though. Instead the title has been held up and the winner will be determined in the Royal Rumble! Now the Rumble means a lot more compared to previous years. With Undertaker/Hogan being the previous champions, I liked that they gave them a later draw.
