[1993-01-09-WWF-Superstars] Update: Razor Ramon attacks Owen Hart
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Things have really been going Owen’s way until he gets clotheslined out of his chair while doing a interview. Mean Gene is appalled by Ramon’s actions. -
After watching 90-91 I’m missing Jumbo not being involved. Taue continues to get boos from the crowd though. Taue and team do a good job of shielding out their opponents when they are going for the pinfall. Kikuchi isn’t as fun when he’s not getting thrown all over the place by both Taue and Jumbo.

It wasn’t pretty and some stuff looked off but they were taking their lumps against each other. They were also connecting well with the Dome crowd. Big tease on Tenryu’s powerbomb and then the final execution ended up being poor. Took another attempt to push Choshu away.

Steiners always seem to step up in the Dome shows. The usual suplexes all over the place and Scott not attempting pinfalls after hitting power moves. The Doomsday Device at the end was crazy. Hawk who delivered it took the biggest bump of all over the railing.

[1993-01-04-NJPW-Fantastic Story in Tokyo Dome] Great Muta vs Masa Chono
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Chono might want to get his eyes checked since he seems to have not been able to see Muta running down the ramp from 40 yards away. Nothing happening and the Dome seems lifeless and dark. Then the lights go and it finally picks up. This was still much behind their 91 G1 Climax final.- 12 replies

Feels ordinary after all we have seen from Junior matches that came after. I’d seen many other matches before finally getting around to seeing this one so nothing specail to me. Dragon slip was bad. Dragon hasn't put it completely together yet.

[1993-01-02-WCW-Saturday Night] Up Close w/ Arn Anderson
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Arn is great at getting over the seriousness of his physical injuries. Anderson's contract has not been renewed by Billy Watts. He has earned the right to be there and beat up Erik Watts when he is healthy. I agree.- 13 replies

Vader beats Simmons to become new WCW champion. No clips or photos from this mach? Maybe it makes the whole idea of anything could happen on house shows but there has to be someone ringside who could have snapped a couple photos of a big title change.

[1993-01-02-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler and Mike Miller
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
Lawler wanting 93 to be more about competition between the wrestlers and maybe the organizations can get along. Dundee on his way to WCW to help them out and Lawler brings up that he has popped up on TV in WWF. We start the whole Lawler a face in Memphis while a heel in WWF thing for 93. Lawler was able to take the chair shot to his back instead of head which is smart. I still think he should have been more fazed from the initial blow though. -
Good to hear Jesse again. He wants Steamboat to quit snitching about cheating. Douglas gets flattened into the floor by a Windham DDT. Dustin comes down to try take Shane's place and the referee allows it! Ventura is not having it nor am I. Nice physical match with the good guys getting to over come the heels with a dubious decision to allow Dustin to replace Shane.

Thanks to Icopro for wishing us a Happy New Year. Lisp or not, Narcissus does not exactly roll off the tongue easy. I can imagine many on the roster botching that one. I always thought it was just Narcissist from the beginning.

I have to agree with Pete on his overall comments for the most part of 1991. WCW was very poor until end of year with the Rude/Steamboat/Cactus roster additions. It will lead to them having a better 92. I too found the 1990 yearbook to be better overall. I'm not a big Joshi fan and I found 91 be more of a chore to watch. Lucha was a step below and I just don't embrace the Brazos like others do. There was some fantastic promos throughout the year. This set will probably be one of the best as far as mic work. I can understand some comments I read about this yearbook being easy to go through because there is a strong balance of promos/angles and the matches for the most part aren't too long. The 90 set was tough in that for those who watched and posted had a crazy amount of posts to have to do compared to this set. I just feel there isn't enough high end matches for all these feuds in the end. Transition year is how I look at it as things get better overall in 92.

Chris Champion got snubbed.

Watched the full match. Nothing too memorable happened. I feel like the Dangerous Alliance should have immediately eliminated themselves to ring one. There they could have rested and picked off one by one anyone that came into their ring. Yes, them going to three way screens once they got down to only a few guys in the one ring was funny. Needed to use that earlier in the match when it was in both rings and more chaotic. Rude accidentally eliminates Austin. Steamboat eliminates Rude who then yanks Ricky out. Rude has another shot for Sting and gives him the Rude Awakening. Down to Luger and Sting. Luger is hanging on the ropes and Sting runs the ropes to get momentum to push Lex out to the floor. That looked kind of weird.

Johhny B. Badd has a big reaction to Abdullah being picked as Sting’s partner. The Butcher attacks his partner Sting on the ramp before the match even starts. Opponent Pillman makes up the save. Mostly Sting versus Eaton in match with partners getting involved on the side. Sting gets the win much to Pillman’s joy. Pillman even high fives Sting. It did play up the Lethal Lottery of random guys getting put together but you then had a guy like Pillman who seemed more than happy to get his opponent Sting the win.

I think I liked the November match slightly more but mostly for the teased pinfall Flair got in it. Flair failed on numerous attempts to get the figure four but Hogan succeeded on his only chance. And he proceeded to small package Perfect at the same time! Another non pinfall/submission finish for these guys. WWF never gave it any proper resolution. Should have been treated as bigger deal but ends up being a match that felt too abbreviated.

A bit too headlocky for the first few minutes with them just lying in the hold. Cute spot from Bret where he waves at DiBiase after launching him over the ropes with an atomic drop. Sherri plays time keeper and rings the bell when DiBiase has the Dream on. Worth a try but referee wasn’t buying it. They have better matches than this. DiBiase continues to be protected.

[1991-12-29-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Barber Shop: Jake Roberts
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
I was thinking Jake shouldn’t be out there with Beefcake who is a lousy interview host. Jake talks about how Savage has to tell Elizabeth he can’t get the job down. Roberts talks about a possible partnership with Undertaker at Rumble. -

Of these vignettes from WWF, this is probably one of the more straight forward ones. -
[1991-12-28-WCW-Saturday Night] Marcus Bagwell and Dangerous Alliance
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Paul E. offers Bagwell a TV title match against Austin. Bagwell actually turns it down as he doesn’t feel like it is ready. Strange to turn down a title shot. Paul doesn’t like that Bagwell is taking training from Sting. Alliance attacks Bagwell and Sting makes the save. Rude gives him the Rude Awakening and again goes after the leg again. Sting was pushing it trying to go after the whole Alliance.- 6 replies

[1991-12-28-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Dangerous Alliance
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Dangerously suggests that Sting packs his bags and go north where the competition is easier. The whole Dangerous Alliance is ringside in tuxes except for Rude. Maybe he has a match up next but they all should have been wearing tuxes. Rude now focusing on Steamboat regarding him almost striking Madusa.- 7 replies

[1991-12-28-USWA-Memphis TV] Robert Fuller and Richard Lee

Suddenly it feels like the Tag Titles are the top feud in Memphis. Fuller is back and he tries to strangle Richard Lee by his tie. -
[1991-12-28-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Roddy Piper
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Great little story from Piper about getting the kilt and the bagpipes. Piper is dreaming about the WWF Title. He probably hasn’t been involved with challenging for that belt since 85 so it’s nice to see him want to be champion. Rumble shot gives so many unlikely guys a shot at the WWF Title. Paul Bearer doesn’t want Piper to overlook his Undertaker so Roddy puts him in one of the caskets.
