Kiss could've had Sting up with them on stage, the look fits. Instead they've accompanied by a Canadian soft rocker. Yeah this was a waste of money, but it was one of the few times Shuhvonney sounded genuinely enthusiastic about something on Nitro.

There was no shoot style spinoff of the original JWP. I can see where you might have got that information, but it's misleading. The original JWP was folded in early 1992 due to a combination of infighting and continual financial difficulties. Two new promotions emerged later that year formed by the former JWP wrestlers. The new JWP and LLPW. They were both pro style promotions and presented a very similar product.

People of other races are all members of the human race dude. They're not an alien species to you. Your life experiences and points of view for any given subject may be just the same as any number of million people from across the globe.

I decided to have a Diva Universe in 2K14 and downloaded about 85 female characters. Would they have been created if what you were saying was anywhere close to being true? Why on earth do you have to be able to relate to a computer game character? What is there to relate to in this instance? At the deepest level their entire being and purpose is to win a virtual wrestling match. If you were playing Mario Kart for instance would you refuse to select Princess Peach? 'I can understand Yoshi wanting to win a race because he's as male fictitious green dinosaur, but why is Princess Peach on the starting line? What's going on there then?'

I was planning to skip that game as I was expecting SA to win by 40pts or so. Then I turned it on with a few minutes to go and couldn't believe how close it was. Even so it looked like heroic failure was on the cards. Giving up a near certain draw in pursuit of victory was awesome. I watched the whole game back later and SA actually scored from most of their chances, it wasn't like the result was due to outrageous fortune. Japan made way more tackles yet looked the fitter side near the finish. It won't necessarily alter the final standings in the pool, but should hopefully lead to fuller stadiums in four years time.

[1999-08-22-WWF-Summerslam] Steve Austin vs HHH vs Mankind
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
I'd completely forgotten that Foley had a 3rd title reign. It felt weird and anti-climactic him getting the win here. Being tagged on to the main event at the last minute after the buildup was all Austin vs HHH. That meant the fans didn't think he had any shot at winning, so were unprepared for the result. They should've had HHH win as well as destroy Austin afterwards.- 10 replies

Test is so jagged and graceless in his movement. I can't imagine many opponents wanting to work with the guy. He doesn't look safe. Despite his lack of ring time Shane actually had way more natural wrestling talent. I would call the match overbooked nonsense, but it needed all of that overbooking. Shane takes a bump for the highlight reels.

[1999-08-16-WWF-Raw] The Undertaker, Big Show and Chris Jericho
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
The Undertaker seemed to have turned into the American Badass during his promo. I also assumed that it was purposely bad to tie in with Jericho. -
He GOT HIS HEAT BACK! I can't emphasise just how important that is. He lost his heat by doing the job, but then he went and got it straight back again. That's booking 101. Fans may think that they want to see the babyface celebrating after a big win, particularly an unexpected one. But fans don't want to enjoy a feelgood moment. What they want is for the heel to GET HIS HEAT BACK straight away. It can't wait a week, because once that heat is gone it's like gas escaping a bottle.

Was Takayama legit KO'd at the end there? I replayed it in slo-mo and that final head kick from Kawada was just brutal. It didn't feel like that was the planned finish.

You'll find that the gems are indeed rare. I also fear that their carat and cut won't make the endeavour worthwhile. But GL if you're brave enough to step into the dead zone. For the OP you'll be fine watching most matches that people recommend from the Yearbook threads. Or even just viewing some random AJW from Youtube. You'll soon get a general idea of what the style is like. I loved it from the first moment I saw it. Other people can't get into at all for various reasons. I'd say it's worth giving a serious go as the rewards are so potentially great.

That's 27 years and counting without a convincing near fall. I can't think of another referee who has had a bigger negative impact on the wrestling industry than Earl Hebner. The amount of matches I've seen him ruin over the decades by being so amazingly bad at his job. Give me a grand for every time I've shouted out 'Fuck you Hebner' and I'd be a millionaire. The most obnoxious, pig headed, idiotic, retarded, insulting, offensive, incompetent piece of shit imaginable. I can think of no more deserving entrant to the Hall of Shame.

I don't know if you'd count all of the TNA One Night Only PPV's. They're shot many months in advance en bloc, so have zero relevance to ongoing storylines. Often the wrestlers have left the company or turned heel/face by the time it gets aired. And most of the shows follow the template of: Long winded and tedious opening promo with 'comedy' elements, a bunch of bad-average singles matches, then a main event Battle Royal featuring everyone you saw earlier, before a worthless trophy gets presented.
-
At the time Jericho was my favourite wrestler so it was awesome having him show up on Raw. Immediately he gets a bigger push than he ever did in WCW by opposing The Rock. Y2J cuts a breathless promo where he carries over his old character whilst cutting down on the comedy a bit. He needed to do that to be an upper tier guy but I do miss Ralphus. He runs down the existing roster and immediately gets his name added to the HHH hit list. As long as he doesn't keep wrestling like a Cruiserweight then everything will be okay.

[1999-08-09-WWF-Raw] Mark Henry and D-Lo Brown vignette
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Why is a cameraman filming Henry and D-Lo going for a run? How does Jarrett know where they are? Was he following them and waiting for Henry to leave so he could attack D-Lo? Didn't he have a spare exploding guitar? Did Debra refuse to provide a distraction? So many unanswered questions. Logic is illogical. Like children in centuries past, Debra should be seen and not heard. -
[1999-08-09-WWF-Raw] Jesse Ventura, HHH and Shawn Michaels
Zenjo replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Beloved ex-commentator Jesse Ventura returns to the world of w******** and cuts an amazing promo. Who else had the balls to do flaunt the secret rulebook quite like that? He'd be right up there with the best promo guys if he were a w******* in this era. He was a real Navy Seal and a pro w******* bah Gawd, and isn't going to take any crap from anyone. HHH comes out and looks like a main event playa because he's opposing The Body. That's until HBK turns up and starts running him down. Michaels as Commish was really detrimental to whatever feud he got involved in. -
Some swearing and mild racism that gets bleeped out. Bischoff is having fits as he's going to take the flak for it. This was really intense and a fun segment. Rodman is better on the mic than last year. I wouldn't say I want to see the match because one guy is barely trained as a pro wrestler.

I'd put him in there with Santo, Casas, Dandy and Fuerza in my top 5 favourite Luchadors. I don't know if other people are quite that high on him but he's certainly well regarded. He's got no end of charisma and ring presence. Great worker too in all the different styles. He can get down and dirty in a brawl. He can produce top notch title matches, even with limited time constraints. Or doing his awesome bumping and making the tecnicos look good in a fast paced trios. Great wild man image as well.
-
It's very Russo with the shooting and the swearing. I'm sure the IWC at the time would've loved stuff like this. HHH is starting to feel like a lower main eventer rather than an upper midcarder now.

I probably watched American Gladiators at the time Rico was on. It used to air over here at something like 3am on a Saturday. Then they made a UK version and I was in the crowd for the first ever show. I couldn't believe at the time that the tickets were free! Needless to say I found out why at the taping as they got 20m of footage in 4-5 hours.
