First look at NJPW on this set. Owen Hart was very athletic here and looked impressive, but overall this match seemed to be lacking a cohesive story. Nice to see that the sharpshooter was truly Owen's move.

[1990-01-28-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Jake Roberts
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Nice promo here with Roberts explaining why he took the Million Dollar belt. This feud has had some pretty good build thus far, definitely the best build at this point for Mania besides Warrior/Hogan.- 13 replies

[1990-01-27-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Interview: Dusty Rhodes
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Goofy promo. Dusty says that the 90's will be the decade of the common man and he throws some innuendo in there as well. Short and entertaining.- 10 replies

This was a fun match even though the teams were uneven and I don't think anyone thought that Perfect and Genius stood any chance here. The highlight of this match was Perfect bumping like a madman and just bouncing all over the place. Hogan came off as a dick here by tagging himself in to steal the pin. This match did a great job of building to the match at Mania.

[1990-01-27-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Show opening
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Nicely done opening that makes me want to watch the entire show. Ventura is wearing some wild looking sunglasses here.- 14 replies

Good match up until the finish. Morton did a fine job in his role (unsurprisingly) as the face in peril for this match and I was surprised by the good amount of offense that Douglas got in this match. Not only was the finish botched, but the camera work was off too.

[1990-01-27-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Four Horsemen
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Sting claims to be enjoying the Horsemen party life and gets cut off by Flair before he gets a chance to talk about their upcoming match. Woman cuts a good promo reminding Flair of her offer. Good segment here and I'm interested in checking out the Anderson vs Gilbert match that's not on the set. -
[1990-01-27-NWA-Worldwide] Funk's Grill: Theodore R. Long & Mark Callous
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Fun promo to watch. Undertaker has a mullet and is unimpressed with Funk and Long's dance moves. -
Lawler is pissed that people don't believe he talks to celebrities so he has pictures to prove it. Fun promo with Lawler making a bit of an ass out of himself and getting under the crowd's skin. The photos looked legit.

[1990-01-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Robert Fuller & Brian Lee
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
This was a lot of fun. Fuller puts Billy Joe Travis in the same category as Elvis and does a pretty decent job singing here. A star search is proposed so that Fuller can mend his broken heart but none of the fat hogs in the crowd should bother applying. USWA continues to be the most entertaining promotion so far in 1990.- 17 replies

Quick and to the point promo here in a setting that doesn't make much sense. Neither DiBiase nor Virgil are dressed to lift weights.

[1990-01-26-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Billy Joe Travis (Guitar on a Pole)
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Very heated match here, but very one-sided. Jarrett beats the hell out of Travis and hits some very big moves in this match. The nastiest one was a piledriver on the outside on top of an awkwardly folded chair. Some fun post match brawling here with USWA once again bringing the goods.- 18 replies

Awesome crowd here that really makes the match. This was a wild match that did a very good job in building up the cage match next month. Sting worked really good with the Horsemen here who were very over as babyfaces. It's a shame that Flair turns heel soon since he worked as a great face here and was super over in that role.

Some crazy brawling and a count out finish here which is not the norm for All Japan. The purpose of this match seemed primarily to continue the Jumbo/Tenryu rivalry, but it looked like some good in-ring action from what we see here. This may be one that search for in full.

[1990-01-22-WWF-Miami, FL] Randy Savage vs Roddy Piper
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Fun match here and I really wish they would have done a big PPV match between these two as this showed a lot of potential. Savage falling off the top rope after doing the airplane spin was pure gold. The non-finish was lame, but it was to be expected.- 17 replies

[1990-WWF] "So Close To The Real Thing, It's Like Being In The Ring!"
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
A lot of nostalgia in this one. I remember seeing these commercials on the tapes I rented and I had a few of these figures. Also, the ring coming with a flag was kind of weird.- 25 replies

As a whole this is a pretty good Rumble. Some strong stories in this one with Roberts/Dibiase and Savage/Dusty continuing their feuds and build to the Piper/Bad News match for Mania. Some other notable matchups in this are Colossal Connection going at it with Demolition and the former Strikeforce team colliding. The middle of this match started to lag put it picked up with the Hogan/Warrior confrontation. Warrior sprinting to the back after being eliminated was goofy. Unnecessary win by Hogan here, but still an enjoyable Rumble.

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Interview: Heenan Family
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Dissension in the Family is teased here with Mooney playing up the every man for himself concept. Fun promo and Rick Rude is looking sleazy like always.- 13 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Ron Garvin vs Greg Valentine
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Really good match here. I think this has to be the best match from Garvin's WWF run. The pinfall attempts were kind of odd, but the strategy of Garvin to wear the brace to protect against the figure four was a nice touch.- 35 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Brutus Beefcake vs The Genius
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Fine build to the Perfect/Beefcake Mania match here. Ref bump and Beefcake puts Genius out with the sleeper. Instead of trying to revive the ref and pick up the win, Beefcake is more worried about giving Genius a haircut. The Genius/Perfect pairing was one that I never really understood.- 18 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Ultimate Warrior
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Typical insane Warrior promo that lacks coherency. Warrior and Okerlund pretty much shit on everyone in the Rumble besides Hogan here. More foreshadowing of he confrontation at the Rumble.- 15 replies

The commentary here was absolutely horrible. The heel commentator was just atrocious. Not a very good match either, Lawler was really heeling it up and using the dirty tactics here.

[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Music Video: Jeff Jarrett

[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler / Interview: Junkyard Dog
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Nothing too special with the promos here. Some racism from Lawler, but overall I feel like this didn't do as good of a job building interest in the match as the other promos we've seen from USWA on this set.- 14 replies
-
The promo is pretty pedestrian but its interesting to see the outdated technology present here.
