[1992-11-07-SMW-TV] Interview: Jim Cornette & Heavenly Bodies
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in November 1992
Promo about the RNRs proposing a four faces of fear series to Bob Armstrong -- Texas Death Match, Falls Count Anywhere, Barbed Wire Cage & Smoky Mountain Street Fight for the Thanksgiving Thunder series -- titles on the line every night. As simple as it gets and completely effective.- 6 replies

Clips of Lawler vs. Todd Champion w/ Jarrett as ref. Champion feels incredibly bush league. Prentice slips a chain to Champion, which Jarrett sees but has to pretend not to. Lawler wins on a roll up. Then a Richard Lee promo on Eddie & Doug Gilbert, somewhere out in the woods where the Moondogs are destroying a ransacked house. Almost expect to see dogs running around somewhere. The Todd Champion stuff is awful, the guy has zero charisma and will not work where people have access to other wrestling. Even if it wasn't going to drive business, the Lee promo with the Moondogs was at least fun.

[1992-11-07-WWF-Superstars] Music Video: Bret Hart
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in November 1992
I didn't dig the music selection here. Felt too much like WCW. Great clips of Hart walking down the aisle, in the ring, old photos and some some recreated b&w shots from Stu's basement.- 18 replies

FLIK's comments above about Bull are why I'm looking forward to eventually grabbing '90 & '91 -- I've enjoyed Bull more than any other joshi worker on here. She was great dominating Kyoko, and trading with Aja is always great. She also sold really well for Kyoko after the Kong piledriver. It seemed like the announcing was much more subdued here and in the previous match than is typical for AJW. Not sure what that's about. Really surprised to see Kyoko take the fall given the stars here. ***1/2

Great outfits for Yamada & Hasegawa. Yamada played the role of the stiff brute pretty well. Not much new to add here -- I had a tough time getting invested in this as it felt like it was going really long given how Toyota & Yamada were pacing themselves. Even if they weren't all all well done, the near falls and big spots down the stretch were exciting and after the set up felt like they were coming nonstop. Yamada with some great selling on the floor late, even if it looked like she just truly winded. On the other hand, I wasn't digging Malenko's selling very much, as she would go down like a giant but pop up like its nothing for the next spot. Also doesn't exactly have the most graceful plancha. Good story here, but took way too long telling it. The JWP tag in December told a similar, better story with superior work and finish. ***1/4

[1992-10-31-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Jake Roberts
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Jake says he's the reptile, not what's in the bag. Still aiming for Sting. Great promo. Do we have any sense of long term booking for Jake if he didn't flame out here?- 6 replies

[1992-10-31-WCW-Saturday Night] Erik Watts vignette
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
We get Watts' feelings on leadership, competition, intimidation, career. Then clip of him in the ring. Very different from the promos introducing Crush, but just as awful in their own special way.- 7 replies

[1992-10-31-WCW-Saturday Night] King of Cable feature
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Celebrating 20 years on TBS. They reveal the bracket, which looks great other than Tony Atlas. Sting's promo was terrible.- 7 replies

[1992-10-31-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: Heavenly Bodies & Jim Cornette
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Follow up to attack last week. Armstrong said every time they meet its now for the titles. Good progression here week to week. They again talk about the Midnight Express, which seems like overkill. Let's hype the current act instead.- 7 replies

Ultra local promo from Lawler/Jarrett promoting a couple appearances. Then clips of 6 man from MSC. We get a lot of weapons spots, Lawler & Gilbert throwing fire, more weapons before Jarrett pins the masked man, who's unmasked as Mike Miller. This all reads better than it watches, as it looks good but man is the town dead for this by now.

[1992-10-31-WWF-Superstars] Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
HBK is challenging for title at Survivor Series, but there's no angle here setting it up. Jannetty shows up and HBK sees him in the mirror in a great bit of production. Jannetty lays him out and he breaks the mirror over Sherri's head. Pretty hardcore, super angle. -
[1992-10-31-WWF-Superstars] The Undertaker vignette
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Bearer promo from Undertaker's workspace, prepping for coffin match at Survivor Series. No one ever dropped the word "coffin" quite like the lead heel in Bad Boys 2. Loved that guy. -
[1992-10-31-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Ric Flair & Razor Ramon
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Flair/Ramon promo for Survivor Series main event. Flair says he'll be champ a 3rd time. Was his exit already planned at this point? -
[1992-10-31-WWF-Superstars] Bam Bam Bigelow vignette

Bam Bam shouldn't talk. He's coming. Still a great look. -
[1992-10-31-WWF-Superstars] Money Inc. vs Natural Disasters
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Too bad we didn't get the Headshrinkers here as I didn't remember that. Somehow Jimmy Hart could wear those spray-on jackets and not look like a joke. Dibiase wins clean with the Million Dollar Dream on Earthquake. Nasty Boys interrupt post-match interview with Hart and give him the armpit rub before throwing him on Money Inc. -
Han with a nice spinning backfist knockdown before they can even ring the bell, but the pace didn't hold up as they went long here. Even though this was stretched too long, there's something about Han where you just can't take your eyes off of him, no matter how simply what he's doing is in theory. Whether its footwork on defense, or creative dropkicks or submissions, the guy is as compelling as they come. This felt like a total fluke finish. Is there more to this I'm not aware of? ***1/4

I still vividly remember the Jake/Rude angle even though I was 7 or 8 at the time. Felt completely different from everything else going on on TV at the time.

I'm almost done with this episode and just wanted to give you guys a shout for putting together such entertaining, easy to listen to discussions. Its a great back and forth without anyone ever being talked over or going on extended monologues, just fantastic chemistry. Tag team of the year!

That's how I always heard it as well.

Thanks for the heads up Rovert. Will Thursday's show be an interview format or just Austin riffing and just being non-PG for an hour?

I actually strongly prefer loading the mp3 into a playlist, especially for longer podcasts, because if you need to charge / sync your iphone before you finish it, ituns will mark the podcast as listened to and then it won't show up the next time you go to it. Much easier to have the mp3.
