  1. Not a bad littletv match. DWB bumps well and bails off of a nice dropkick. Wright in this role really was a lost classic. You'd think someone could try to pull that off today. Wright bumps out of his wheelchair in an awesome moment. Hell of a TV segment. **3/4
  2. Orndorff attacks Garvin prematch and then chokes him with the towel. They call it a 1992 lynching. Stay Classy, SMW! Then an intense Garvin promo and Orndorff in studio. Seems like Garvin could be put to better use than a towel.
  3. Savage out with an Ultimate Maniacs kneeband. This is all incredibly corny with Savage giving him Macho glasses and talking about what he'll see with them. Nice merchandising and fun to watch today, but I doubt it played that well to a paying audience in 1992.
  4. I really need to check out the matches from '90 (and the new 80s set) as apparently those are the can't miss versions of this, which was fun but didn't feel like anything so special. Dandy takes the first with the same toehold bridge from the Casas match, and then he bleeds. A lot. Didn't love the finish in the third but there's always room for a good shaving. ***1/4
  5. Yep you guys were pretty clear it wasn't your thing this time around. I'm sure it'll pick up more as you get into '92 and beyond like you said. I'm just a sucker for hearing about things that are still foreign to me.
  6. I'm with KrisZ in that Taker at Mania and similar big matches is pretty tough to beat. I'll take those spectacles over Dustin any day. On the other hand, if I have to watch 100 matches of either guy I'm taking Dustin pretty comfortably as he's got a lot more rewatchable depth between the WCW years and Goldust eras. Fortunately I don't see that choice presenting itself anytime soon.
  7. Finally had a chance to finish this yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. I really enjoyed the international parts as its what I'm least familiar with having grown up with WWF/WCW. Next time don't blow through joshi so quickly!!
  8. I'm a huge Michaels fan. The kind that isn't very welcome in these here parts. But I'll take average RNR over high level Rockers in most cases.
  9. Anderson & Morton are the two standouts on that list for me. A couple interesting names for consideration -- Liger and Eddy Guerrero. Liger was unquestionably the ace of his division and headlined some shows, but was never the focal point of the promotion. Guerrero obviously had his run on top, but there was a ton of greatness that preceded it and followed it where he wasn't on top of the card.

  11. Always a name that's intrigued me. I'm not referencing the list of who's in while posting this, but what's the case *against* Jarrett as opposed to other territorial promoters who are in?

  16. It was a shoot. He was working to have a bunch of talent jump to WCW.

  20. May have been better? Will absolutely be checking that out tomorrow afternoon. I assume I'll track them down on youtube and go chronologically unless there's something else you think I should mix in there. OJ, thanks for the heads up about the prior matches. Will def look into those as well.
  21. While they're not as extensive as what you're looking for, I think Meltzer did a pretty good bio on Rikidozn around the turn of the century under the premise that he was the most important wrestler of the 20th century. He also did a nice, albeit brief, history of NJ in one of the issues around the time of I believe the '96 G1. Hopefully someone else can point us towards something more detailed, but you can't go wrong with those.
  22. Don't worry, they wrestle each other all the time and have been teasing a mask match for the past decade. Another of their matches will pop up eventually. Any in particular you'd recommend? Definitely want to check them out if they're even close to this one.
  23. That's a shame. Seemed to set up Wagner/Terry and then a rematch of this classic.
  24. It is my current MOTY even after watching Summerslam and the Lucero title matches. I tend to prefer lucha brawls over title matches so it got the nod for me. I can definitely see it, it really was that out of this world. The Summerslam matches win out for me because I watch the TV so I came into & out of them with more of an interest in the stakes, but this was on the same level as far as not giving you a second to turn your eyes away. What was the deal with the finish and what it was building?
