  1. Nothing too constructive to add at this time, but for my money Ohtani had some of the best facials offered by anyone in Japan. The guy was accessible to any wrestling fan unfamiliar with the Japanese product.

  3. Bret Hart fetishism always has negative consequences on this board I love many a Bret Hart match and quite a few promos in '96-'97. I just don't see why this nonsense needs to drag down an otherwise high level discussion. I'm one who easily ventures off into thinking of someone as a draw, their promo work and other non-work intangibles. But this ain't the place for that.
  4. Cool, maybe just do it elsewhere. No reason to drag this down.
  5. How did the Serious Greatest of All Time Candidates thread become the WWF UK draws in 1992 thread?
  6. Vader/Cactus from '93.

  8. Right if the show is sold to a local promoter I can get it, though I can't imagine anyone plans on turning a profit with the trans expenses and available population bases there. Definitely not part of any loop you'd expect a touring promoter to hit.
  9. I'm glad someone asked. What was the thinking on an Alaska tour?? Has anyone else even tried to run a show there?

  12. Exactly. Let's make it go. Can push it to 6/1 if we want a round date. It'll be a great, cohesive way to take a snapshot of peoples' views and generating thoughts for what folks want to look into.
  13. Its a purely subjective analysis so you're never going to be fully confident in every call. There'll be consensus around certain names and positions, and less so about others. If it fosters interesting discussion and sparks people to either look back at something or explore something new, that's great. No downside.
  14. Is this always the case? If so it'd definitely help appreciate some matches a whole lot more, provided I know who's who going into it. There have definitely been times watching lucha where wrestlers just didn't fit the roles I expected for them going into the match. This might help explain why.
  15. Why not do it then? Hell, do it every year or 2. There will always be new footage popping up in circles such as this one, nevermind that tastes and opinions can change and evolve. No one should be wedded to prior rankings / votes. There are a bunch of guys regularly touted on PWO who I frankly have seen close to zero of. Perhaps that DQ's me from participating in the eyes of some, perhaps it doesn't. Ditto Matt D and the AJ crew. This is such a natural trigger for thinking and discussion that I don't see why it shouldn't be a regularly scheduled tradition.
  16. Did it literally feel like they were rewinding and playing this back on a loop? I've seen matches exactly like that where they go back to the same formula and don't do much to change up the heat or feel and literally just look to be adding minutes. But I'm sure we can also come up with tons of examples where they add in another chapter that builds towards the stretch and climax and throw in even a couple distinct wrinkles that tie to what occurred earlier. Curious where this fits, though from the description it sounds more like the former.
  17. Yup, that's right. Personally urgent situation on my end and we stopped and re-started later. I think this might be my favorite episode. Fantastic, really looking forward to it. Maybe open up a related thread after people have had the chance to listen to it for a bit where you post the list, Loss's, and others can chime in with theirs to discuss?
  18. Just to confirm, part 1 is ~30 minutes and part 2 is ~2.5 hours? Just want to confirm I've got everything properly loaded. Plan on listening to this on a 20 mile run on Saturday and don't want to find out I didn't load the right files.
  19. 2+ years later I'm curious how the thinking in this discussion has evolved. Really fascinating to read through this, particularly some of the thoughts on peak vs. longevity (I'm in camp with those who don't hold the Mets years against Willie Mays) joshi, lucha and Tenryu (who's stock seems to have permanently risen). In the wake of the AJ 80s footage and now the 80s lucha set, what do folks think is different at this point in time?
  20. There are Bam Bam matches I enjoy watching today though.
  21. Wasn't Hogan/Warrior II the original plan for 7? I thought the story was Hogan planned on getting his win back the following year but plans changed when Warrior was cold and the war opened up that storyline.

  23. That is incredibly high praise. I'll have to check this out.

  25. Richard Lee promo with the Moondogs teasing a barbed wire cage match. Doug Gilbert is out, mentioning Eddie wrestling Terry Funk for a shot at Lawler's title. Moondogs attack Doug with barbed wire and Lawler is eventually out for the save. Lawler with a good promo setting up the MSC match. This was so hot early in the year, but I'm not sure how it won feud of the year in the Observer.
