  1. Embry is a bloody mess. Jimmy Valiant & Tom Pritchard interfere and eventually DWB is busted open as well before Tony Falk and Brian Christopher run in. You know how people scream about SEC football? Or Mark Henry screams that's what he does? I feel like everyone here should be able to scream "Memphis Wrestling!"
  2. We hear about the demandments of Hulkamania. Sid is nuts. So glad this made the set.
  3. Flair gives a press conference in an empty hall talking to everyone who believes Liz. Everyone before me hit -- this is great Flair, but perhaps not "Flair" Flair.
  4. Hogan & Piper definitely opted against the decaf before their promo. We're then treated to the Fink announcing that HBK has left the building. Perfect isn't out with Flair here, who gets his own entrance, as does Justice, while the faces are out together. Flair does his standard spots bumping for Hogan & Piper to a ridiculously hot crowd. The use of Whippleman's bag as a foreign object is awful. After that we get the Hulk Up and Flair eventually taking the fall for Hogan. Crowd and Flair really made this. **3/
  5. Cornette is still setting up the debut of his team. This time he's at Hooters, where the girls mob his charges before we can see them.
  6. Fun video hyping the Wild Bunch's debut with clips Korakuen vs. Ace & Kobashi.
  7. Bump, even if I can't contribute to Anthony.
  8. Seven days after debuting as a heel in SMW, Anthony is back in Memphis as a babyface against Eric Embry.
  9. Valiant looks like death warmed over. His look here might scare Hogan even today. That bad. Valiant kisses Christopher like some kind of cool, old hippie. Christopher puts up with it a bit but attacks him following a booty bump. I don't blame him. Valiant was annoying as hell here.
  10. Hogan's standard promo about training, prayers & vitamins. And Dahmer. Its not clear clear from this that he's gone after Mania, which surprised me. I would've expected the hard sell on that much sooner.
  11. Flair is reading WWF Magazine. On his yacht. In stone washed jeans. Classic. He and Perfect show more photos of Flair with Liz, and they wrap by replaying Savage's "untrue" promo. So much fun.
  12. Loved the ref pointing out his official's patch. Gilbert does a great job working the role of the babyface with the decked stacked against him, but I had a hard time getting into this. Not in love with the work of the others, it didn't come across as serious as it should and try as I may I just can't get into Barry Horowitz as a credible heel. **
  13. The Viper's under a bench and this is awful.
  14. Bruce Prichard talks about Eddie Gilbert's suspension. Ref Sam Esposito is sporting a nice burn on the eye from Gilbert's fireball.
  15. That's for sure. This is probably the best heavyweight singles match so far this year, and without looking at my overall rankings, I can't imagine its all that far from the top. They start off ridiculously hot, with Kobashi hitting a DDT off the apron and flying shoulderblock to the floor. Then comes the prolonged headlock, which with Kawada transitioning from it with his left knee work I did not mind one bit. I can see how that may look like a worthless rest spot to someone that isn't at all familiar with these guys. Kobashi's selling of Kawada's stiff elbows and kicks takes things up a notch as well. Then comes the stretch run with them building to Kawada's power bomb & Kobashi's moonsault. Great near fall after Kawada hits the power bomb on his third try before Kobashi taps to the stretch plum. The intensity here had me completely forgetting they were still teammates at this time, but they shake afterwards. This was great. ****1/4
  16. Ha he really does look like Toru Tanaka. I wasn't aware PWFG ran any US shows, but it probably meant a hotter crowd than we would've had in Japan. Fujiwara's heel work and facials highlighted this. Not as big a fan of this as the UWFI but still great to watch to see what else was going on in the world. Fujiwara is continually working towards an armbar, and eventually the crowd goes home happy with Vale knocking him out of the ring with a high kick for the victory. ***1/4 That wraps up a pretty interesting disc -- a bunch of promos, angles and highlights from WCW, WWF, Memphis & SMW mixed in with a couple domestic matches, a little NJ, Joshi, shoot style and Donahue. Talk about eclectic.
  17. We finally get some joshi on the yearbook and what a way to kick things off. Yamada's facials and fire after the hot tag highlight the first fall which sees the challengers take the pin with an Ocean Cyclone Suplex. Kong goes nuts and opens the second fall with chairs & tables in a wild brawl all over the arena. She piledrivers Toyota on a chair and continues to destroy her from there, with Toyota escaping a bunch of near falls before going down to a power bomb off the ropes. The third fall is incredibly heated with the faces double teaming Kong for an extended period, culminating in an absolutely brutal double suplex off the top that sees Kong take the bump right on her head. Just a sick and awesome spectacle. After the match Kong does her best Stan Hansen trying to destroy a belt and needing to be escorted out. ****1/4
  18. I imagine he meant googling before you posted the image.
  19. While this dragged a bit at times, it was paced very well and logically. Quick striking early with Silver's big kicks looking great. The crowd finally pops pretty big for a backdrop suplex followed by a transition into a choke. Silver continues controlling things standing with his kicks, working in a half crab after a takedown. He also hits a big German suplex. The infrequency of those kind of spots in this style make them feel like absolute game changers. Things come together late, where every single move and attempt looking like a potential finish. Kakihara withstands an onslaught from Silver and counters with an uppercut slap that busts the big man's nose. They continue trading kicks and strikes as time expires. So different, and so much fun. ***3/4
  20. It was interesting to finally see this after reading about it in the Observer and Torch. So strange seeing Vince and Dave sitting side by side. Hodgson did not come off as remotely credible in my eyes. I get why this was included, but it didn't exactly leave me wanting more.
  21. Piper talks about knowing the Hart family for years, going back to changing Bret's diapers and won't fight him at WM. This felt like an incredibly forced way to create an issue between the two. After shaking hands Piper teases hitting Hart from behind with the belt.
  22. Looks like I'm in the minority on this one as I was a huge fan. Brad Armstrong shines on commentary. Pillman with great early work on Morton's arm including a hammerlock, armbar and even posting Morton's arm. We transition to Pillman selling the knee, working the figure four like a real platinum blonde heel before Pillman scores the win the same way as he defeated Liger at Superbrawl. ***3/4
  23. Rogers takes a good punch and this is a fun little match in basically a theater or large studio setting, aided by the commentary. Could've used a few more minutes. You won't see a finish built around a sunset flip anymore. **3/4
  24. Pretty awesome to see this airing the same day as Embry doing his thing with a babyface DWG in Memphis. Anthony is much more well suited as a heel. Love the contrast of him with Wright.
  25. DWG delivers a nothing promo and afterwards Embry forces two kisses on her. I'm not sure how many heels can bring it as naturally as he can.
