    Absolutely tremendous! Foley signing Rock n Roll Express theme but switching it to Rock n Sock. Foley just so over the moon oblivious to the Rock's agitation. The Rock call Tag Belts small potatoes doesn't even know who the Hollys are and that they have a match. Foley gives Rock a sign pre-copy of his book. Rock wants to know what page he is on. Foley has Mr. Rocko! Rock tells him to keep it disgusted. Foley gave it a rinse-aroo at Super 8. LOL! Rock tells him to keep it. Foley asks if he ever stops giving. I LOVED THIS

    Mankind saying he did not need saving from the remnants of the Ministry and that he was just getting his second wind when The Rock arrives, but appreciates it nonetheless because that's what best friends do! The Rock using Michael Cole face to advertise his new shirt was great. The Rock 'N' Sock Connection has been great on rewatch. Awesome odd couple. I watched the Taker promo after this. Taker calls out The Rock for using TV writer. Damn! Undertaker seems already in American Badass mode. I have watched 2 or 3 Taker promos. He is pretty terrible. He forgets his lines and is awkward speaking. The Undertaker gimmick was perfect for him because he did not have to speak. Undertaker would leave soon because he was injured. Rock 'N' Sock take home the tag titles on this night!

    Austin & McMahon is just gold no matter the capacity! I like the idea of Austin and McMahon friendly towards each other as the natural progression of the rivalry. HHH is pissed that McMahon has won the title. McMahon wants to relinquish the title and it will be up for grabs in the Six Pack challenge. Shane wants to face HHH & Chyna with his daddy. Good father/son bonding. Austin reinstates Vince! Vince puts HHH in the Six Pack Challenge as punishment. Great segment!

    WWF World Champion HHH vs Vince McMahon - WWF Smackdown 9/16/99 HHH is refusing to face Austin because Austin blew his rematch on Monday. He runs down all the potential challengers, but he wants the one with the biggest grapefruits. Jerry Lawler says "Me?!?" and cracks me up. HHH goads Vince into a match calling out Vince's ability to satisfy his middle aged wife is funny. Linda has needs too. Vince says no but eventually HHH's sexual insults have Vince deck HHH, but that lasts only so long. Shane is the special ref as chosen by HHH now Shane is the one helped HHH win the title first place. So I was confused at first if Shane was biased against his dad or if HHH wanted him to suffer by watching him kick shit out of his father. Turns out it is the latter. HHH beats the crap out of Vince. Vince is so great at selling the beating. HHH is vicious. I like Chyna getting in a cheapshot. HHH blasts Vince with a chairshot and draws blood. Shane tackles HHH to a big pop but Chyna tackles him and then Shane eats a chair shot. Out comes Linda & The Stooges. I love Pat & Jerry trying to save Vince. It is very endearing. Chyna forces Linda to watch HHH beat her husband into a bloody pulp. FINALLY Austin's music hit to a MASSIVE POP! Austin hits the Stunner and pulls Vince on top for the 1-2-3! I think Vince & Austin as an uneasy pairing against superheel HHH was the perfect to transition into a new era and cement HHH as the super villain of the WWF. Awesome segment!

    Vince is the man. I feel like Triple H sounds like a cross between his Greenwich snob gimmick and The Game. He does not fully sound like Triple H yet. I really like how they are going all in on Triple H. He is the most over heel in the WWF since Vince. I think Vince coming back as a babyface to stand up to HHH was the best way to give HHH that seal of approval. Building a strong heel after a year and half of Vince makes sense. Vince is great as a pissed off babyface protecting his woman. I loved how he called HHH a son of a bitch. Throw his jacket in his face. Austin's beatdown of HHH was glorious. Great bumping by HHH. Stupid Russo bullshit aside like ringing the bell to start a match that does not exist and then ringing it at the end of the beatdown was dumb. Austin was on fire liked him attacking HHH's legs with a chair as revenge and a stunner sends us home. GREAT!

    I only watched the finish, but I loved the Double People's Elbow! The Rock 'n' Sock Connection are World Tag Team Champions...Undertaker abandoned Big Show? Foley from world champ to tag team champion in a week, WWF was crazy.

    The People want Mankind and the People need Mankind as The People's Partner! The millions and millions of Rock's fans and the dozens and dozens of Mick Foley's fans are excited! I loved it. Mick Foley so great in this role as a total, loveable ham. The Rock is great as the cool jock that is a dick, but does humor Foley and is entertaining as all get out. Just a great pairing. Great babyface main event act.

    WWF World Tag Team Champions Acolytes vs Hardy Boys - WWF RAW 7/5/99 This is actually in North Carolina. Michael Hayes clearly saw something in the Hardys. I remember this vaguely. It seemed like overnight all of sudden the Hardy Boys were a thing with Michael Hayes. Like they really came out of left field. I was really surprised when they won. Great angle to do in their home state! The Hardys dive to the outside. Chaotic start. The big bruisers overwhelm the new age Rock 'n' Roll Express. Matt Hardy gets a neckbreaker as hope spot. Nice highspot with the double legdrop and splash. Faarooq thorws down Matt and then powerslam on Jeff. Tag out to Bradshaw. Big boot by Bradshaw. Bradshaw was tombstoned on Heat by Kane. Bradshaw with some great Stan Hansen bodyslam and then kick to the back. Bradshaw catches Matt off the top and Jeff gets a missile dropkick to get a two count for the Hardys. Jeff takes a double shoulderblock. Jeff gets a DDT as a hope spot for two. Faarooq tags out. Bradshawn clubberin. Matt big boot to Bradshaw concussed head. Matt punching him in the head. Bradhsaw doing a great job selling. CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL! Jeff saves. Farooq takes out Hayes. Jeff canes Bradshaw, tornado DDT by Matt and NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS HARDYS IN THEIR HOME STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA! I really enjoyed this. ***1/4

    Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Val Venis - Smackdown 10/21/99 I watched the opening show promo. Mankind was pissed at the Rock for dissing his book which caused the Rock 'n' Sock Connection to lose the tag belts as Mankind threw a temper tantrum. Foley cuts a pretty good promo on The Rock. The Rock accepts his challenge. I always forget how over The Rock was. The Rock wants Austin to have a match to be fair (Austin vs Rock vs HHH at the upcoming Survivor Series). Val Venis comes out and cuts a classic Dolph Ziggler-esque promo about it is his time and that he is the fastest rising superstar. Whatever, Val. Austin punches him in the face and accepts. I thought this was a good match but nothing to write him about. Val has some good punches and is well-built, but he lacks charisma. What makes me wanna see The Big Valbowski. Austin was interesting to watch he clearly enjoys traditional wrestling and this built well. He loves to cheat. It is funny that WWF has these babyfaces with heel edges such as Hogan and Bret. An indictment on American society, overall good but occasionally using questionable means to obtain a good. Austin eyepokes. This is worked heel vs heel except Austin is over huge as a babyface. Lots of Irish whips to create movement in the match. I am more interested in this as a time piece of 1999 rather than the match because the narrative is nothing special. I think what I like about this is the selling. It is the right amount. It is a register rather than a sell. I think in today's wrestling they sell so much for a short period and then blow it off. I rather they sell like Austin just enough but when he comes back it feels credible. For instance, the transition is Austin landing bad on his neck off a clothesline. He writhes in pain and Val is able to take advantage, suplex on the floor and a whip into barricade. But it is not so much that Austin is dying. Plus Austin is always fighting back and he puts the onus on Val to cut him off (eyerakes). It is good stuff. I liked the superplex attempt which Val blocked with a front suplex. The end was good Val whacks Austin with the chair in the leg and then Austin says Fuck You and hits him with the Stunner! It was more an interesting look at what wrestling looked like in 1999 rather than a good match.

    Bret Hart vs Owen Hart - RAW 3/27/95 No Holds Barred Match What a hidden gem! I didn't even know this existed until yesterday. For some reason, it never smacked me as weird that there was no blowoff to Bret/Owen. I figured since Bret won the Summerslam Cage match that was it and that Owen was just to be a constant thorn in his side. Turns out this is the blowoff the feud. As Owen would link up with Yokozuna for a tag title run and Bret was destined for midcard hell until November. This is on a weird RAW. The majority of RAW is Vince and Todd running down Mania XI card in a studio. This match is the only match on the RAW and it is called by JR and Gorilla Monsoon. I really dug this match. This about the greatest street fight you can have without blood and weapons. It was all punches, violence and hatred. Owen jumps Bret as he is going through the ropes. Bret earns his shine and fights back. He tees off on Owen. Pulling hair, raking the face across the ropes, railing. All nasty stuff. DDT. A big blow to the head. This is NOT Mania X where it is two brothers seeing who the best is. This is a fight. Bret takes him up for a backbreaker and Owen rakes the eyes. Owen is all over the eyes, back rakes. Nice enziguiri gets Owen a two count. Owen slams Bret into the railings. He puts his foot on Bret's chest and calls himself the real King of Harts. This is great Brother vs Brother action. Owen puts Bret in the Tree of Woe and while the ref is tending to Bret. Owen takes off the turnbuckle pad. Owen wants to send Bret headfirst into the exposed turnbuckle, but Bret blocks and sends him in. Bret gets a clothesline. Bret just hitting all his moves with great ferocity. That backbreaker looked awesome. Sharpshooter time, but Owen pokes him in the eye! I love it. He whips Bret hard into the exposed turnbuckles, which Bret takes in classic Bret fashion front first. Wow! Bret's sell was amazing. I audibly gasped. Owen misses a missile dropkick and Bret catapults him into the exposed turnbuckle and then Sharpshooter and he wins. There was a ceiling on this match because blood and a bit more violence would have taken this next level, but this also felt rushed. I think it was only 8 minutes. Bret takes that nasty, nasty front first bump into the exposed turnbuckle and he wins like a minute later. If they had 5 more minutes to flesh things out this could have been a real classic. Still a really great match that people should watch! ****

    This is Part One of a Forty Part series looking at the Top Three Matches of the Year in WWF/WWE from 1978-2017. I am starting with the year 2014. This is Part One of a Forty Part Series chronicling the Top Three matches to take place in WWF/WWE from 1978-2017 in an effort to crown the greatest match of all time. Remember how much hope there in April of 2014, Cesaro was getting pushed, Sami Zayn was an over underdog babyface in NXT, the women's revolution was starting, The Shield vs Wyatts were tearing down the house and most importantly Daniel Bryan proved dreams do come true winning the World Championship at WrestleMania XXX in a fairy tale ending.     Bret Hart vs Hakushi - RAW 7/24/95 FLYING SPACE TIGER DROP! So that's why this match is famous. I thought this was an improvement on their IYH match. I had never seen this match before. I liked Shinja distracted Bret before the bell to give Hakushi the advantage, but Hakushi squanders that when he eats knees on his Vaderbomb. Bret is so good working on top and grinding his opponent. Hakushi Irish Whips and Bret falls and slides hard into the post back first. Great spot! Similar Hakushi heat segment. I love Bret feeds himself hope spots and Hakushi cutoffs. The ending of the match is red hot. FLYING SPACE TIGER DROP! You don't see those even today. Bret does the double noggin knocker. Bret hits an Asai Vaderbomb! I marked out for that. Hakushi gets one more hope spot before Bret polishes him off definitively with the superplex/Sharpshooter combo. Really dug this TV match. ***1/2

    Bret Hart vs Hakushi - In Your House I I think this another great candidate for a match to show to a non-fan as their first match. I think you want something that showcases the fundamentals of pro wrestling without being great. Because a non-fan wont appreciate the greatness of a truly great match. You want something they can digest. This has a good basic structure: shine->heat->comeback->finish. The shine is roughest part. Their timing seemed off. It was not too interesting. The heat segment was good. Bret is a great seller. There is plenty of cheating. Hakushi does a Vaderbomb, BroncoBuster and a back handspring elbow so there's enough high end offense to keep a new fan engaged. They build to a good mini-climax with the diving headbutt being his big nearfall. Hakushi misses the springboard headbutt huge in 1995 America. Bret has his typical comeback but to a new fan it would look great because Bret is awesome at offense. You have more cheating from Shinja. Two crazy highspots at the end, the vertical suplex over the top rope to the floor which is still insane and then the Asai Moonsault. Then a solid victory roll win for Bret. Bret wins definitively without hurting Hakushi too much. Long time wrestling fans might call it predictable or formulaic and I wouldn't disagree, but sometimes those things are still good. ***1/2

    WWE US Champion Finlay vs William Regal - GA 2006 "Give me some skin, Teddy!" - Finlay Finlay was in the midst of a feud with Bobby Lashley, but Lashley was suffering from elevated liver enzymes and so he is out and instead we get this gem. Even when their matches are unheralded you got to go out of your way to see a Finlay vs Regal bout. Not as good as their WCW wars, but this is still a hard hitting, badass affair. Now the fans do get restless and they end up chanting boring. I don't think it was due to bad workmanship per se, but the lack of a narrative. It is hard to call this a spotfest as there were almost no highspots. But there was no web between the spots. Regal was sort of playing de facto babyface, but they did not do a shine or a heat segment. They didn't get the fans invested in Regal. They went out and did a Regal vs Finlay match where they stiffed the hell out of each other. Yes, that appeals to me, but I don't think that would appeal to the broader audience. I actually thought they had a couple missed opportunities. This was during the time period where Finlay had the Little Bastard (aka Hornswoggle) under the ring. The first two times Regal got momentum, the Little Bastard was there to stunt it. The first time he was hitting Regal with a shillelagh and second time he bit his fingers. This could have led to great hand psychology from Finlay. Or they could have kept up with the narrative that Regal cant get anything going with that Little Bastard under the ring. JBL tells Michael Cole not to call him that because he may have parents. Turns out he was a bastard, the bastard son of Vince McMahon. The finish was a typically creative, good one from these two. Finlay does his classic catch his opponent in the apron skirt. Regal comes out without one of his boots. Cole surmises that the Little Bastard must have taken it. Finaly stomps the foot and goes for the throat. Regal fires up and grabs the shillelagh. Little Bastard gives Finlay the boot and he waylays him for the win. This is a match that I clearly enjoy, but understand that it is tone deaf and lacked a narrative. ***1/2

    Andre The Giant vs Killer Khan - WWF Philadelphia 11/14/81 Stretcher Match One of the most famous matches of this era, Andre is looking to exact revenge for Khan breaking his ankle. I guess Andre broke his ankle getting out of bed so they shot an angle where Khan injured him or did they just say on TV that he did. Then on TV when Andre was giving an interview as an update on his recuperation, Khan attacked Andre with his crutch reinjuring the ankle. Here comes Andre now ready to kick some ass. No fun comedy spots. Andre here was ready to rock. Headbutts, punches, slaps and Khan could run but he could not hide. Andre just sits on him with all his own weight. Andre misses a headbutt. This is Khan's only chance. He ties up the ankle in the ropes. Khan attacks the ankle. Khan tries to have Andre put on the stretcher. Oh yeah, so they bring in a stretcher and the ref & trainer try to put the man on the stretcher. Andre ROARS back whacking Khan with the stretcher! I thought the match kinda petered out after that. Andre just sits on Khan a lot. Khan would resist getting on the stretcher. Andre would sit back on him. Andre splashes him to win. Andre definitely kicked ass. It just did not feel like that fist pumping moment. Definitely a good match, but pales in comparison of their New Japan classic. ***1/2

    WWF Tag Team Champion Rick Martel & Tony Garea vs Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito - WWF Championship Wrestling 10/17/81 "RIGHT IN THE FACE WITH NOTHING BUT PURE SALT" - Vince McMahon with a ***** call After Moondogs lose the tag belt back to Martel & Garea (couldn't find the title switch back), Albano returns with a new team this one from Land of the Rising Sun, WWF stalwart, Mr. Fuji teaming with one of the all-time greats, Mr. Saito. Martel & Saito would go onto have a classic match for the AWA World Championship in the mid-80s but here they have a fun tag team match. Martel is such a joy to watch. I really have not watch much Garea but he reminds me of an older Martel just as fired up and excited to wrestle. I loved the babyface shine. Lots of energy and excitement. Martel's crossbody was great. I thought the transition to heat was a little weak they just sort of all sudden beat up on Garea. It is a solid heat segment. I guess I was expecting more Saito like I saw in the AWA here he is much more toned down version. Wrestling more like Fuji meaning a lot more cheating. I liked Garea whiffing hard on that dropkick. Garea breaks free and tags in Martel and it is pure OUI OUI RICKY MARTEL! As much as I love FIP Martel, HOT TAG RICKY MARTEL is hard to beat. It was short but sweet. He goes up for the crossbody when Mr. Fuji hits him RIGHT IN THE FACE WITH NOTHING BUT PURE SALT! The ref, Dicky Whirly, does not see it. 1-2-3! New World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions. Rick Martel gives the absolute best sell job of salt I have ever seen as he is just writhing in agony. ***1/2

    WWF World Tag Team Champions Rick Martel & Tony Garea vs The Moondogs - WWF Championship Wrestling 4/4/81 I forget the ring announcer's name, but this is the one that the Titans love to impersonate and he is a lot of fun. I preferred the MSG match to this one even though the MSG match had the non-finish. This one just did not have the same zip. The babyface shine felt like more heel in peril as Martel/Garea worked over the arm and the Moondogs kept missing elbow drops. There were no big bumps and like I had Martel & Garea put in effort, but it was not that same level of fun. The heat segment was definitely solid. Martel sold like a million bucks and the Moondogs were good on top: eye rakes, choking, fishhooks, backbreakers. Great hope spots. I thought the finish was the best part. Garea puts on the ab stretch, but Albano has coached up his Moondogs don't hit him with bone yet just break up the hold. Garea strikes the ref on his backswing of his punch. Now the Moondogs hit him with his big bone. Ref is up 1-2-3! Great old school heel finish to put some heat on the feud as you cant have Martel & Garea beat the Moondogs like a drum each time. Good stuff. ***1/4

    Andre The Giant vs Sgt. Slaughter - WWF MSG 3/16/81 Wildly entertaining. Slaughter was so over. I liked the Hall of Montezuma bit Sarge did at the beginning. With Backlund working Hansen (Blassie), the Grand Wizard's charge was facing the other babyfaces such as Pedro, Andre and Patterson. I loved how much fun this was. Sarge bumping for Andre was awesome! So good. I love that ass spot Andre always does as a babyface. I was impressed with how Sarge was creating offense for himself. It was all about getting that Cobra Clutch. I liked how he tried for it while Andre had him in the leglock. Andre's selling after his own suplex was great. Like he is so strong he knocked himself loopy. Sarge rakes the eyes and tries to go up top and PRESS SLAM! Huge pop! Andre is on a roll. Sarge pulls the ref in front of him to draw the DQ. Andre looked great here and is so much fun. Sgt. Slaughter is the perfect heel foil for Andre because he bumps big, but the threat of the Cobra Clutch keeps it competitive. ***1/2
