He's not going to sniff my Top 100.

I almost feel bad taking potshots at it after it's suffered such abuse over the years and essentially became a punchline itself but the "Coal Miner's Glove Match". In theory and in execution (looking at you Jake and Sting) it's a tough sell. As young kids though my brother and I, while not understanding what made a coal miner's glove special or dangerous, found it easy enough to replicate at home wearing standard winter mittens pretending to adorn the feared elusive Coal Miner's Glove while wrestling and fighting our pillows and each other. Runner-up would be those lousy Inferno Matches that by their nature make it nearly impossible to produce anything substantive in-ring.

Daniel Bryan announces his retirement on twitter.
Mando replied to Death From Above's topic in Pro Wrestling
Anyone recall what his last televised match was offhand? -
Yeah. That includes features, shorts, and it allows WWE & UFC PPVs, too (never been sure exactly why? Because they're produced? Either way I always figured that was 3 or in the case of UFC sometimes 6-7 hrs. with prelim fights, that I wasn't spending watching movies so logged 'em.) 115 was in theaters so roughly every 3 days I was at the multiplexes or art house cinemas. http://letterboxd.com/sabotage/films/diary/year/2015/ Already up to 102 this year. Man, that three-hour Raw seemed crushing last night and that's coming from someone who watched Bela Tarr's Sátántangó in one sitting with no breaks (and it's seven hours!).

2015 was probably first year since age 5 that wrestling wasn't my main hobby. I'd shifted to movies (watching 706) and tried to keep up with current wrestling but allowed myself to miss a few shows here or there. This year I'm wanting to cut way back on the binge watching of movies to watch more wrestling. Definitely staying up on all the current TV (Raw, iMPACT, NXT, Lucha Underground, SmackDown!, Superstars, Main Event, and ROH -- certainly not the best wrestling of all-time but I like keeping up with the ongoing product for the soap opera-like following of storyline development, feuds, etc.) and also digging back into my crates and making a small dent in the giant stockpile of DVDs I've amassed the last decade+ (which is a nice blend of everything, esp. indies of the last decade and a wide variety of puro).

Ambrose cut his teeth in HWA here in Cincinnati where Nigel McGuinness was a big deal hence the Rebound Lariat love. Dean does other things tributing his home town i.e. "Lunatic Fringe" is the motto of WEBN the longest going rock radio station in Cincy. I'm a big backer of Dean's but take that with a grain of salt as I got to watch him come up from school gym and armory shows to the big leagues.

Seconded! Loved Sheamus aggressively laying in shots on Brock in the corner. I can't offhand think of any other potential pairings I'd be more excited by (save for Daniel Bryan versus Brock in the vein of the Danielson/Morishima feud).
-
Actually you're totally right -- the Big Daddy V figure didn't have the mohawk (and was w/ Striker not JBL)!
-
Strangely it was packaged in a two-pack with JBL in a suit. I found it by accident trying to find a picture of his 2" Jakks Micro Aggression figure as that was the last set of WWE toys I actively purchased a couple dozen of (and Viscera and Tommy Dreamer had a blood feud in my league ).
-
I always loved Viscera/Big Daddy V as a worker but I'd wager that most people would have preferred his scary-looking action figure counterpart to the real-life version.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Mando replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Not sure about other providers but I've got Time Warner and PopTV isn't offered in HD. It's a shame I won't be able to watch Mahabali Shera's meteoric rise to the world championship in 1080p. -
Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

The countdown clock on TNA's site just expired with the big announcement being they're debuting on PopTV in early-January. -
Yeah the lifelong wrestling fan in me died a bit.

Kazarian came by us at one point and said "God I love my job!"

This has been arguably the weakest ROH show I've attended and that includes events here, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, & Philly (when they flew Misawa in). I did manage to get a clip of the spot of the night: https://twitter.com/rtwbrian/status/658099128870772736

I'm here too! Bummed on no AJ. Guessing the main goes 45+ min.

Never, I remember Dylan and Will dragging me on a reaction show kicking and screaming to do TNA. Yeah I recall Will saying he'd never host another TNA reaction show.

Tonight is TNA's biggest show of the year, Pete. It'd be a shame for TWiW not to cover it on the next episode.
-
Just want to similarly echo the positive sentiment toward the show. Great job, guys! These were a blast to listen to. I was also touched by Chad's #1 reflections in RE: his personal life and fandom. This past year movies surpassed wrestling as my full-time hobby but in the last couple weeks I've sort of rediscovered or at least welcomed back my love of wrestling and could relate to that proud acknowledgement of being a real lifelong fan. Looking forward to the Beach Blast show and beyond.

Sonjay Dutt vs. DJ Z vs. Tigre Uno - TNA X Division Championship Match - TNA iMPACT Wrestling 8/26/15 Horribly botched double-hiptoss early on Tigre dumping him on his smelly mask. Dutt wishing he was back working CZW shows in '07. DJ Z's manic blue mohawk screams Hot Topic discount rack and he sells an apron somersault not unlike one of that store's part-time employees might. "Hey man, I'm hitting up the food court on break, you guys want anything?" Some absurd offense. "Here, let me make you do a backflip so you can land face-first on my knee" which is overkill yet made completely meaningless when no contact was actually made. Dutt wrestles with the conviction of a kid playing one of the Three Wise Men in a Christmas pageant but has recently started to self-identify as Yazidi. The finish was real bad. The announcers called it a "Frog Splash" but it looked more like a kid splashing into a backyard pool, stiffly and awkwardly and as forgettable as that morning's Pan a la Catalana.

PTBN Reaction Show: NXT Takeover Brooklyn

Good on Pete for showing the most "generalism" of the PWO PTBN team! -
This Week in Wrestling for July 25, 2015
Mando replied to Grimmas's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Been looking forward to this all week. Hope you guys covered SmackDown (Ambrose vs. Sheamus, Owens vs. Rusev, & Cesaro vs. Rollins were all terrific). Would also be cool if a fan of the "C" shows like Dylan would occasionally cover Superstars and Main Event. -
After listening to the recent GWE podcast and hearing Will and Dylan making a case for being true to your own pro wrestling loves in your ballot and not worrying about kowtowing to popular opinion I had to at least toss out a nomination for the The Powers of Pain. For me they were quintessential late-'80's/early-'90's pro wrestling personified. It's hard to attribute why I always had a soft spot for them over Demolition and the Road Warriors, maybe I'm a sucker for the unloved underdog, but I always got excited seeing them bludgeon opponents. They'll land in my 25 for sure. A friend got me a four-disc set of their oeuvre years ago. Besides the more widely seen stuff like WWF pay-per-view appearances, etc. there's lots of hidden gems on there worth seeking out: - 5/14/88 vs. Road Warriors (NWA) - 7/23/88 vs. Demolition (Philadelphia Spectrum) - 8/13/88 vs. Bolsheviks (LA Sports Arena; I'd rate it a tick higher than their Summerslam bout 16 days later) - 6/10/89 vs. Hart Foundation (Nassau) - 10/28/89 vs. Bushwhackers (MSG) - 1/15/90 vs Rockers (MSG; think this is still on YouTube, too) - 10/30/04 vs. Animal & Rick Steiner - 3/4/06 vs. Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton (SCW) - 7/15/06 w/ Mad Man Pondo vs. Vampiro, Nosawa, & Violent J (JCW) - 10/19/07 vs. Kamala & One Man Gang (Wrestle Fan Fest)

Really enjoyed the new podcast feat. Steven, Will, & Dylan. One name that popped up in my head while listening was "Hollywood" John Tatum. Couldn't think of any great high-end matches to bolster a resume but he was one of the best crybaby heels of all-time which I always dug.
