Chico Torrez (whatever happened to him?) looks facially like Scotty Riggs. Sadly, it looked like the July 4th card didnt draw as well as it might have.

Did that Coach say Bossman might have had "lace on his panties"? This guy was COMPLETELY over-acting. I would have had to calm him down and do another take

Especially since he didnt have a guitar pick in hand

Im only half way through and this 1990 set is the best purchase I've made in a LONG time. 1990 is so murky in my memory banks that these dvds are reminding me of things or just showing me I'd remembered them wrong. For instance, I didnt remember Snowman being the babyface in this fued. I thought that Lawler was the tweener (for lack of a better word) and Snowman was the heel. I had them completely mixed up.

Reggie B. Fine's line of "I need that money like Kojak needs an afro" made me laugh just for the mental image it brought up.

Tatum just flat THROWING the kid over the front rows head was a rewind moment for me. Overbow's landing on those ancient old benches couldnt have been pleasant.

I always thought the dated aspect was part of the gimmick. That these guys, no longer young or ground-breaking, were in self-denial and trying to stay hip and relevent. Like a makeup-less KISS of professional wrestling.

I wonder if there was a tense conversation between Lawler & Marshall over Stagger Lee's burial of the king on AWA TV. I have a feeling that the first thing Lee said on sight was a weaselly "Verne told me to do it!" Lawler was probably like "oh, Lee. Didnt recognize you without the mustache. Grow it back you fat-faced, chronic masturbator looking fuck. Now, lets get these promos over with. Gawd, this backdrop is ugly."

As did the Henson Company's "Dinosaurs". Hey, I liked it.

Yeah, that last line garnered a "whoa" from me. I think it did Craig Johnson too. It seemed like he pulled the mic from Percy. I always liked Craig Johnson but, dagnab, those glasses of his. Its like he was trying to give off a weird Jim J. Bullock vibe.

Just for the sake of keeping things accurate, Germany always spelled his name "Khris". This makes him (or his parents) a forerunner in the stupid-ass trend of Misspelling A Simple Name To Be "Creative" that seems to be all over the place now.

Of course, Lawler's opponent is black. Maybe Im reading too much into that since Memphis always had a ton of black job guys. I have literally no idea who the shorter Brian Lee looking dude that was sidekicking with Bruno is at all. Why the hell would that DJ WANT a bodyguard to keep those ladies away? Those raven-haired hardbodies in the lingerie (and Im not a big fan of fancy lacey lingeree. It always seems like such a waste of money). were pretty fine. BTW, the era of the DJ getting tons of the poonanny were long gone, even back in 1990 so this was all bull cookies.

Am I the only one who noticed the clever Lawler in Black & White trunks while Snowman was in the pure white tights? Subtlety.

I dont get the internet hate for the 'Birds. Scott Keith has always had a venomous hatred for them and I just never understood it. I ordered a Badstreet USA t-shirt around this time. WCW, being WCW, sends me a shirt a size too small. Ended up as a tight undershirt under a sweatshirt on particuarly chilly winter days.

John Tatum is, sadly, yet another lost classic star. I didnt remember his face being so fat. I guess Im just used to him with some growth. I find kissing to be gross. Bill Dundee kissing has been giving my gag reflexes quite the Insanity workout.

This made no sense at all. Ole wasnt a commentator so I dont know what Herd was talking about there. Woman is gone. Barry seemed half in the bag during the pre-tape. WCW went ROCKETING down into the shitbox after a pretty decent few months there.

Im a sometimes theatre director (got paid a couple times). One of my flaws (some will say my thriftiness. An actor referred to me as "Roger Corman" one time and thats still the greatest compliment ever paid me) is a habit of obsessing over the little piddly details instead of the big picture. So, of course, the one take away of this segment is Lou Winston's "Big LEW" hat and jacket. I could have sworn it was always "Lou" and not "Lew". But then, his middle name could be Edgar and LEW are his initials. Snowman stinks as a wrestler but that one left jab was wicked.

Toni had been there the year prior, weilding a kendo stick. I think Billy Travis spanked her in the ring once while Chris was handcuffed.

This stuff being on the discs, like directly after The Snowman angle, really makes WCW look terrible. This was HIDEOUS.

The footage of Lawler vs Chris Champion took place in the great, still hasnt been condemded Evansville Coliseum. A lot of people think the Coliseum (where I have spent many a Wednesday night and now go to for Roller Derby) is a lot bigger.

I agree with PeteF3 in that the key is that kayfabe is never broken. It could have been so easy/lazy to do but they take the high road. Snowman had been in the area before a couple of times. Once under a mask as The Killer and then without the mask as The Snowman. He had a habit of no-showing Louisville and Evansville, IIRC.
