It also has to be said that the personality of the deathmatch wrestler is very important here. Abby could use a fork because he genuinely felt like a crazy psycho who would just forget the rules of wrestling and would want to murder you on the spot. Sheik's matches would go like 4 mins and never pretended to be actual matches so it was fine for his matches to have those weapons used. But (and this is not a shot at Allie and Justice, I haven't seen them work, it's a general point) when unskilled, bland, uninteresting randos use these weapons and do these spots (with all the stalling) for 15 minutes, it makes me feel like I am watching a couple of drunk/drugged idiots fight outside a bar or a park at 1 AM, or an awful, domestic fight in a household. It's just not something that I think is a viable wrestling attraction.

Yeah as I said, intimate sharp objects are off-putting and I would be happy if I never saw them again in wrestling. I don't need to see two wrestlers stab each other with a knife or a fork. Something like the sledgehammer is corny and obviously business-exposing but it is not off-putting to me like small sharp objects are. Something about them just doesn't fit in

From all videos I have seen, fans like Alexa, but hate the supernatural shit and start audibly groaning and lose interest when that shit is happening. It's when WWE most blatantly adds in the 'correct' crowd noise. Otherwise, when she is being normal and wrestling or talking, fans clearly like her. Don't see anything surprising about this reaction, but I also don't see anything surprising about WWE continuing that supernatural crap. It clearly works for some LORE fans at least, so why not cater to them.

I would be really happy if we never saw any sharp object used as a foreign object in wrestling again, including knives, forks, even thumbtacks. Blunt objects are fine, but something about sharp objects is off-putting to me

I think it's possible they would have had a third match after Cody lost the title to Darby. If they were building to Brodie-Hangman, Brodie was probably going over

It is not remotely surprising that Vince when challenged has gone back to size. He has always done that, as do all promoters that have had tremendous success with one idea. However, having all the size on the roster won't help if you don't book wrestlers like stars who are gracing us all with their appearance. The trend of wrestlers being just thrilled to be in WWE because it is their childhood dream. Compare how Vince used to treat his wrestlers like God amongst men in the 80s, like the coolest, smartest athletes in the world in the 90s, and compare it to how all full-time wrestlers are treated in 2021 WWE. The flipside to having a billion dollar brand that can sell 50,000 ticket to an event just on its own name is that Vince feels no need to book any wrestler as special or with a huge aura. And why would he? He can achieve the same result just putting over the brand he has spent his entire life building.

I am watching a Saturday Night episode from 1993 where the main event is supposed to be Flair and Sid v. Vader & Austin, only Sid is immediately attacked when he is coming out and has to be replaced by Arn. Ignoring the ironic analogies between art and real life (with Scissorsgate), these four are having a barn-burner of a match and Arn is going crazy on Austin in the 2nd half of the match and the crowd goes wild and starts chanting..."WE WANT SID!!" I know Sid has some fans here, but is there any other wrestler as limited and often downright awful as Sid who would constantly, inexplicably get cheered unexpectedly, or be more over than more established stars? Arn here, Hogan at Royal Rumble 1992, Shawn at Survivor Series 1997, he just somehow would end up in situations where he would be the most over person in the ring

Lmao HHH might as well just go to AEW and be done with it

You don't think Sasha is untouchable?

They have to make space for Gable Steveson I guess (that guy is going to be a megastar unless they totally fuck him up)

I had heard that he was a piece of shit but never the details. The accusations are bad, and the source for the "cleared with DMs" is a podcast where the hosts are skeptical of this claim that he was cleared when he showed DMs. I am not sure how those allegations can be disproven with just DMs honestly. Priscilla denying someone's abuse using her own is shitty, but so is leaking her DMs from a long time back. Plus, the alleged victim herself apparently has done the same denial of abuse to someone else, so it's turning out to be one of those "wrestling sucks and so does everyone in it" things which just turns you off the business

He is seriously amazing. Coming from behind and scoring 4 (5 with unsuccessful challenge) in 10 seconds to win gold at 21 years of age in the biggest match of his life, beating two of the most dominant wrestlers of the last decade, is ridiculously next level impressive. I cannot wait to see what he does in pro wrestling. The old adage about heavyweight power with lightweight speed is a cliche but it totally applies to Steveson. He weighs 275 pounds and moves and wrestles like he is 175. I cannot wait to see what he does in pro wrestling. He is legitimately a once in several lifetimes talent.

Imo Darby beating Cody for the TNT title was big, and it helped elevate Darby while telling a story because Cody had beaten Darby during the tournament for the title. I don't know if Darby was as over in May as he was when he beat Cody in November. That loss also started Darby's long feud with Taz, which went nowhere for a long time, but ultimately resulted in the Sting tag. That title run in general did a lot for AEW, because Cody was a star and an established name and his open challenge allowed a lot of newcomers and rookies to look good against a guy of his status and immediately fit into AEW. Guys like Kingston and Ricky Starks benefited a lot by debuting against Cody. As far as Brodie, his squash of Cody definitely made him look like a monster, and he barely got beaten after getting choked with a chain in the rematch. We don't know how their feud would have concluded for sadly obvious reasons. In general, Cody being a main event gatekeeper where if you beat him, you can basically headline a Dynamite episode, has been good booking that has used Cody's status and push to help elevate young talent by giving a visual cue to fans that these guys are legit stars and potential main eventers. I think it's sensible hierarchical booking and Cody has done everything to hold his end of the bargain. MJF for example. Before beating Cody, he was basically Cody's comic sidekick who everybody knew was going to turn. When MJF beat Cody, Cody never got anything back on him, immediately transitioning to Jake Roberts. MJF immediately went on to challenge for the world title, and the PPV (and the quarters) did well, so it clearly worked.

This is an incredibly hot promotion. Next week I am sure will see some drop because last night was a breather show and I don't think anyone is intrigued by Christian-Omega, but this has a very summer 1996 Nitro feel where they are throwing so many things at the wall and a lot of it is sticking. I really hope they finish the Hangman arc well

Yeah he def has an argument for best tag wrestler ever. It's not just the two Midnight Express versions, he had an excellent team with Arn and also an extremely fun team with Regal, all of whom are different teams with different appeals. He was a perfect marriage of great input and great output. Everything he did in the ring looked so smooth and so impactful, and he also has a litany of excellent matches on his resume. Truly an all-time great. Rest in peace

Sting looks like he is having the time of his life. Good for him

The name is Kal Ho Na Ho https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0347304/?ref_=m_ttpl

Lmao they chanted the Goodbye song as Cody made his tearful speech. That was so weird. If you just need a hiatus, get beaten down bro, what is all this drama. So happy when Black hit him at the end. This was the weakest Dynamite episode since they came back to Wednesday nights. The Elitw Dark Order angle is melodramatic but it is still intriguing and I want to see where it goes. Most other stuff was just a bunch of workers and storylines I don't care about at all. The main event was great and made Malakai look like a million bucks, but that speech was a lot of drama on a show which already had a lot of drama

Leyla Hirsch is green but she has potential. Looking different from everyone else always helps. Bunny otoh is just bad. Again, they have better women on the roster! Use them!
-
On the other hand, Miro is amazing
-
Yeah this show has been weak. Two Elite/Dark Order segments make sense, but a Christian match AND a promo? A promo where he is..singing?
-
Do they not have stronger challengers for Britt? This Elite Dark Order soap opera is certainly melodramatic eh
-
Darby Allin is my wrestler of the year so far. I don't think I have seen him in a single bad match this week, and he is frequently having good to great matches every week
-
They better know where they are going with the Hangman angle. They are walking a V-E-R-Y thin rope. They have earned the trust and goodwill to be given a chance to see it through, but I really hope they know how they are going to reach the end

If AEW is doing well in the money demo, why do I have to sit through ads of middle aged men talking about dick pills
