  1. It looks familiar, but if I read it, it was 15 years ago. Might need a re-read.
  2. I read Tod Gordon's book, Tod is God. Good, not great. Some interesting detail around the startup of the company and how Heyman ends up taking over, but a lot of the book covers key people and moments in a non-linear way. It reads a bit like a shoot interview, which is maybe not surprising given that his coauthor was Sean Oliver. The book did get me jonesing to read more about ECW. I have Sabu and New Jack's books on tap (ready to take everything with big grains of salt!). I also read the Candido book a while back. Anyone other ECW recommendations? Feels like unfortunately hard to find good inside histories of the company - too many of the key players are either dead, did way too many drugs to have a good memory, or aren't talking (Heyman, Styles). EDIT: Did some searching - has anyone read the Justin Credible book? That's the only other autobiography turning up on Amazon.
  3. Oh yeah, I'm not against taking a shot with him, but he's really not particularly good. What I saw of this ROH show live was mostly fine, not much standing out. The six man title match was a neat matchup on paper that ended up being kind of a mess.
  4. I believe that was a dark match and not an ROH match.
  5. As a live show, with all the wrestling, Collision was a very easy watch. More breaks than Dynamite, but that's not always a bad thing (especially when you have a 5 year old in tow, like I did).
  6. Guys behind us were remarking on this when Rhett came out for a match during the ROH taping later. "Wasn't that guy security?"
  7. This was his first match back, I believe.
  8. Okada-Taichi from today was quite good. Was losing my mind in the finishing stretch.
  9. I won't get into a long discussion of the body of the match, but the end of Blood and Guts was great. Instead of a 50/50 match determined by some big spot, like most modern War Games, they isolated a dude and beat the fuck out of him until one of his partners had to surrender to keep him from being totally taken out. Echoes of '89.
  10. Loved the death match today.
  11. I LOVED Day of Reckoning, so if the Gamecube games are a good comparison, that bodes well for me.
  12. Weird thing - Eaton appeared in ECW again in 2000, very briefly. He didn't have a match, though, just one run in.
  13. Savage in TNA Nick Gage in AEW
  14. Isn't Eddie in Japan for Blood & Guts? G-1 starts the weekend before.
  15. He is in Sanada's block... one version of this would be Kiyomiya winning the title in the fall and Okada defending the company. Ballsy but plausible.
  16. I also think New Japan can't simply keep going back to Okada for the WK title match. But that means Okada needs a match that can draw, and I think him vs Danielson would do the trick.
  17. Himself?
  18. I tend to think that time slot was kinda dead at that point. Wrestling was moving prime time, and 6pm on Saturday wasn't going to cut it in terms of drawing advertiser money. Heck, I think prime time on Saturday is going to be a real risk for AEW, so can't see how it'd have been a good call for WCW back in the day.
  19. I thought the episode was okay. The coverage of Tammy was very shallow (we didn't even get a mention of "Sunny Days"!), but the heartfelt appreciation for Candido from those who knew him was lovely. There's a good book on Candido by Jon Cosper (with help from Chris' brother) that is excellent for those looking for more.
  20. I think they did a good job of moving the other three guys upwards a bit, but it's of course the followup that matters and what Tony has struggled with. What are their next programs that keep them at a higher level and don't just send them back to the midcard?
  21. Yeah, Sinclair was looking to eliminate the expense - that's one reason the price was so low. Also, similar to WCW, ROH was basically at its nadir and had no real TV slots if Sinclair wasn't getting it for free. Seems the only interested buyers were other wrestling promotions.

  23. In addition to all the other great things about Dean's writing, it hit me this week that he (and the other DVDVR guys) are the people who taught me the joy of wrestling road trips. Of gathering your dorky friends and feeling cool by going on adventures centered around wrestling shows to otherwise random places on the map. For that alone, I'm forever in his debt - my, how much joy wrestling trips have given me over the years. He'll be missed.
  24. They have sold a ton of tickets. Appears what's left is the uppermost seats, platinum seats in the lower level, and ticket packages that are combined with hotels.
  25. NXT UK basically destroyed the indy scene but replaced it with nothing. The country is now underserved. Plus this show is likely to feature plenty of the people (UK and otherwise) that were the catalysts of when wrestling was drawing there very well, with Rev Pro and Progress and Defiant doing big numbers.
