What Happened When with Tony Schiavone
kayfabe1984 replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
On the new episode, I thought Conrad's Hogan/Pastamania/mistress theory about why the first Nitro was in the Mall of America was completely ridiculous. Tony had no clue what he was trying to get at and said do numerous times but Conrad kept harping on the fact that Hogan wanted Nitro at the mall so he could plug Pastamania and please the mall publicist he was sleeping with at the time. -
Jim Ross claiming Goldberg v Lesnar happening at Survivor Series
kayfabe1984 replied to Strummer's topic in WWE
I heard about this too and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. On one hand, it's great that Goldberg will finally get the match he wants to have so his kids can see him wrestle. Plus, it gives Survivor Series a much needed boost. The opposite end of the spectrum says that this is going to be a horrible match. I just went back and watched their Mania 20 match a few weeks ago and it was just as horrible as I remember it being. Also, I'm guessing that this is a one and done for Goldberg? -
Thanks Ricky. Late 70s/Early 80s WWF is something I intend on diving more into soon, especially the old house shows.

After hearing about Mighty Joe Thunder on the 6:05 Superpodcast, I decided to watch all four matches of his. Some thoughts here: http://epicwrestlingadventure.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-legend-of-mighty-joe-thunder_3.html

Yes, but what would you add to or change on those cards to make them PPV worthy? I see what you did there. However, wouldn't it be more apt to compare Beach Blast to Bash at the Beach? Same basic idea (and logo for that matter).
-
This is an upcoming topic on the NHO Podcast but wanted to get some thoughts from others as well ... In 1993 and 1994 there were no Great American Bash pay-per-views, but what if there were? What cards would you put together for those shows that would fit within the time period of WCW? I'm really interested to see what everyone comes up with. Some of these will even be read on the podcast when it's recorded in a few weeks.

Wrestlemania XXXII Early, Early (did I say early?) Predictions
kayfabe1984 replied to Fantastic's topic in WWE
Rousey & Rock vs. HHH & Stephanie would be tremendous. Only thing that would make it better would be to have Bruce Buffer announce Rousey to the ring. -
Four Way Tag: Kidd & Cesaro Diva's Tag: Could really care less but I'm going with the Bellas Ladder Match: Daniel Bryan in the hopes they will rebuild the IC belt Battle Royal: Sheamus if he's a surprise entrant, otherwise Big Show US Title: Thinking Cena in a screwy finish on this as a way to potentially re-build the US title Orton/Rollins: Going with Orton Taker/Bray: Realistically would like to see Bray win and then have druids carry off Taker on their shoulders or in a casket signalling his end Sting/HHH: Sting: WWE Title: Reigns wins, Brock goes apeshit mad and destroys everything and everyone including Reigns, Rollins comes out and cashes in.

A tad more excited than I was a week or so ago, but still going into this show with low expectations.

Upcoming podcast series - Gigolo Gaz Unzips
kayfabe1984 replied to ButchReedMark's topic in Publications and Podcasts
If you need someplace to host it, archive.org is free and works great. -
Yep, and I'm pretty sure either Vince or Kevin Dunn probably had some sort of aneurysm after he uttered that.

I'm going to watch Mania just because it's WrestleMania and my wife and I have already planned a weekend around watching Mania & the HOF but the build has been completely flat and I'm not excited about it at all. Is it sad that I'm more excited for indy tournaments like King of Trios and King of the Deathmatch than I am for WrestleMania?
-
Agreed, however I did enjoy the build to Taker/HHH at WM 28. The build to this year's show is probably worse that the build for WM 29. It's WrestleMania and I should be really excited but I'm not. This feels like just another PPV in my eyes.

Haven't thought about this for a while but as far as the worst Mania's go, it would be for me ... WM 11 (1995) - Bad show with the audio issues and poor matches. Also, it was held in Hartford and felt like any other run of the mill PPV at the time. Really, how much credit can you give a show that Bret Hart states was his "worst match ever". WM 27 (2011) - A show I have no desire to re-watch anytime soon. Between the Rock gab segment to open things up and the "Miz"-erable main event, this wasn't a good show by any means. The first bit was good with Rey/Cody, Edge/Del Rio, and Punk/Orton. After that and the HHH/Taker match, things went to the toilet pretty fast. WM 5 (1989) - An interminable show that just drags and drags and drags. Rockin Robin singing the anthem, Run DMC rapping to everyone's displeasure, and a goofy Piper's Pit segment along with a crowd colder than an Alaskan winter's day didn't make this a fun show to sit through. WM 2 (1986) - The first half was dreadful but from the football players battle royal, things picked up a bit. Also, Susan St. James on commentary. Please, no. WM 9 (1993) - Not a bad show and memorable only for the Roman Coliseum stuff. I found the Headshrinkers/Steiners match to be fantastic and some of the mid-card matches to be somewhat solid. The Bret/Hogan/Yokozuna stuff at the end still comes across bad.

That Bill Mercer one looks interesting. Should hopefully be world's better than the one Highspots did a few years ago. Really excited for those two new WCW timelines KC is coming out with.

Not to mention it seems like every single indy fed, at least in my area, does some sort of MITB type deal. I've seen it done in some other indies as well. It's become more of a crutch to fall back on in the way of developing new people instead of them just working up the ranks. In terms of WWE, while I like the idea of having it, I agree that the US or IC titles should be used to build new people. Not a briefcase. TNA's version of this "Feast or Fired" is just beyond stupid. Plus, who carries a briefcase these days anyway?

The major remaining territory era North American libraries that they do not own (ignoring Mexico) are: Memphis Wrestling: by far the most valuable collection! They will buy this as soon as the ownership deal is settled. World Wrestling Council: it was rumoured that WWE wanted this last year. The Colon’s promotion is cash strapped so this will eventually end up being owned by WWE whenever they decide that they need footage in Spanish language. This may be a gold mine if the older stuff has been preserved half decently. Savoldi collection: Jarrett WCCW, Wild West and IWCCW, as well as probably a lot of random shit: they may have WIN masters (1989 lucha libre promotion), Venezuela wrestling tours, early 90s Carolinas indies (NAWA/SAPW) with Shamrock and Tatanka and other low value stuff. I just hope that someday somebody finds a pristine copy of the WIN bout with Eddy, Mando, Chavo and Hector teaming together. St. Louis: only the last few years are available. Not sure who owns this. Matysik? Houston Wrestling: not sure who owns this but apparently somebody does. I wonder if they still do have film of Lou Thesz vs Kintaro Oki. ClassicWrestling.com: this is owned by Todd Okerlund and partners so it will end up owned by WWE someday. Basically it’s the old PM Film library which has been marketed for two decades in different forms: Blanchard’s Southwest, Einhorn’s IWA, whatever survives from Bruiser and Sheik’s territories, Abrams’ UWF, Poffo’s ICW, some Memphis, some old Black and white wrestling and they may own the few tapes from Hawaii/Polynesian wrestling that are still around. I believe they also own Texas All Star and mid 80s Central States (WWA) because bits and pieces of that used to be part of the old PM Film tape lists. Canadian Wrestling: whatever survives from Montreal (International and Grand Prix) apparently seems to be owned by Scott D’Amore. This may include Canadian AWA and indies like Tony Condello’s promotion. Anything else, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, comes from private recordings and not actual masters. I don’t believe there’s anything left from the Welch/Fuller territory either. Besides that there are private owners of individual masters from Memphis or Mid Atlantic: Jim Cornette may be the biggest individual owner. Also, there was a quick mention in the Observer a few months ago of WWE acquiring the tapes of a gentleman who shot his own handhelds and may or may not have the only Flair vs Andre match on tape. Two things here ... 1. I'd always wondered who owned the Abrams UWF library. Now I know. 2. As far as Wild West Wrestling, I do recall there being a match on the most recent Mick Foley DVD from Wild West Wrestling on there. Not sure if it was perhaps from Mick's personal collection but it was quite interesting to see something from a random territory like that on there.

Yaay! Glad they finally finished 99 Smackdown actually. Was planning on going back and watching in as I couldn't get it where I live since the station that carried it wasn't available in my area. Loving the 96 Raw stuff, probably my favorite year.
-
Saw Bryan and Ambrose wrestle in a rec center in front of about 250 people in the summer of 2010. It was a great match but would be really awesome to see that match once again on Mania.
-
As I mentioned to a friend of mine, them showing the top matches on Raw for free is basically a huge middle finger for those in the U.S. who spent $60 on the PPV. Not only do the announcers insult the PPV buying audience week after week but now they air the Rumble match and title match for free. If I ordered on PPV, I'd be rightfully pissed. I watched on the Network though, so I wasn't really all that appalled.
-
I watch mainly on the Roku 3 but also occasionally on the PS4. I've found the PS4 interface to be very user friendly and more like the actual online version, whereas the Roku version seems clunky compared to the PS4. I occasionally watch on my Kindle Fire as well.
