Introduction to the Board as a wrestling fan
slackermillionaire replied to soup23's topic in Forums Feedback
Is 08-10 ECW on the network? No but I think they are on Hulu. I hope WWE get everything that is on Hulu Plus on the network in the next month or so. -
Do you hide being a pro wrestling fan?
slackermillionaire replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling
My friends and family know I am a fan, I think my friends have only just started to con on to the fact how big of a fan I am. Friends will come over and I will be watching New Japan or The Best of the Freebird set and they realize "oh shit he is really into it". It is not a big deal though, most of my friends all have that one thing that they are into be it fantasy literature or anime or comic books or something of the sort. It might be because I am younger (24 years old) but it seems all of my friends are into something that would be considered geeky yet on the surface none of my friends resemble a typical geek at all (most of them are jocky dudes or are in lofi bands), it seems with my generation and the rise of geek culture, it is acceptable to be in to such things. I have brought girls back to my place before who have seen my Wrestling DVD collection, I simply explain that I have watched wrestling since I was kid and it is something I love and most just smile and say cool. I don't force anyone to watch it with me, I barely talk about it with anybody else because no one I know has even a passing interested in it but I have never received much backlash from it, expect when the occasional person will say "You do know it is fake right?" to which I will quickly reply " I am a complete fucking idoit, I have been watching wrestling for 15 years and never knew it was fake. Thank you for your wisdom" and the person normally feels embarrassed for asking such a stupid question. -
Excuse my ignorance this thread but does anyone have a date and show for this?

WWE Network finally happening
slackermillionaire replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Megathread archive
Probably a non story but on WON Radio they had audio of Dave and Bryan interviewing Austin about the Network. Bryan asked Austin if he would be interested in doing something similar as his podcast on the network, Austin replied his ears would be open. I don't think the WWE has approached Austin about such a thing, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for a show. A weekly hour long in depth of interview of a wrestler could be very interesting. They wouldn't even need to get Austin per say (although I think Austin would strive as a sit down face to face interviewer), I am sure Joey Styles or even Foley (if he took a serious approach to it) could pull it off quite well. -
Shoots Review and Preview thread

Just watched the Hero shoot and really enjoyed it. Hero comes off as a very likable, intelligent and passionate guy. It is a real shame that the WWE let him go, because he seems to a perfect fit for someone the company can send out and do press and unlike The Miz, I don't think he would give that totally over the top "I'm in WWE PR Mode" impression. Instead he would be able to come off as a cool guy who has a true passion and love for what he is doing and that could rub off on people. I really liked when Hero described Joey Mercury as being the future of producers for the WWE and that he has a vision in mind. It is just another reminder that while the booking is less than desirable at the moment, WWE has a lot of the right pieces in place for the future. -
Oh I really dug Ryback on commentary, I just wish The Big Guy was around when Ryback was feuding with Cena, it is crazy to think back on how forced his original heel promos were to how natural he seems right now.

I don't watch the JBL and Cole show and I hated the first two weeks of Bad News Barrett but I have really enjoyed the latest two. This gimmick might not make him a main event star (I think with the current crop of potential stars WWE has, he has a slim chance anyway) but it could turn into a decent spot in the midcard/upper mid card. It seems like they might be going Brock-Batista which I could get behind and is much more appealing than Orton-Batista. I really want to see The Shield vs The Wyatts at Mania but I don't think that is going to happen, I do hope they run that match sometime though before The Shield splits up. Possibly at Elimination Chamber?

I watched Angle RF shoot and his podcast with Austin within a week of each other a month ago and the thing that really grabbed my attention was that it was noted that Kurt began calling all of his own matches from 2002 onwards (I get the sense that Kurt was even calling matches against Eddie and Benoit). And I think that is where we can almost pinpoint where Angle began to slip up. I very much enjoyed Angle 2000-2003 (up to Brock Mania match). Kurt Angle "talented athlete who is a sponge to the business" is great, Kurt Angle "in ring general" is not. Kurt needs a Taker, Austin or even from the limited TNA stuff I have seen Jeff Jarrett to reign his shit in. One of the things that really stood out in Kurt's shoot is that he keeps on saying he wants to teach the TNA guys to work "smart" and that is the way he was taught to work, it is pretty clear watching the shoot that Angle is delusional but this point drove it home.

You are not alone, I really dug that match, I think Fandango has quietly had a good 2013 and I am keen to see what he can do in 2014. Now that WWE finally has a tag team division up and running, they need to focus on the IC/US title scene. It seems like they are going to unify the belts which is a good thing as it is easier to put focus on the one title. I think they have a good talent pool to really get the mid card heated up after Mania, they have alot of hungry guys like Fandango, Langston, Ziggler (though it seems it may have given up), Sandow, Ambrose, Rollins all wanting to make a name for themselves. Hell ever since Big E won the title, I have been hoping for an extended feud between him and Cesaro for the IC title.

Introduction to the Board as a wrestling fan
slackermillionaire replied to soup23's topic in Forums Feedback
Hello everyone, I'm Chris, 24 years old, Brisbane Australia. I have been a WWE since 1999. Because of my age and location I grew up watching very little wrestling outside of the WWE but I have been lurking around message boards since I was 13, found DVDVR in 2005 and while I am not a big poster (it is one of my goals of 2014 to post more at boards I lurk at, hence this introduction), I have found growing up reading message boards has given me a very strange education into the world of pro wrestling. I have seen very little Crockett for example (only what the WWE has put out on DVD) but I can recall matches and angles I have read about but never seen. My wrestling fandom waned heavily between 2005 -2010 due to multiple reasons: growing up, started going to parties, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit's passing and moving to College where it was hard to view wrestling week in week out, but I always remained update by reading the boards and watching shows when I could. I got back to watching current WWE in 2010 where I had access again to it. I find I tend to be more positive about the current product than most, I think enduring RAW 2002/3 at a young age (my home didn't get the channel Smackdown was on until late 2003) has conditioned me for much worse things than watching 10+ minute Daniel Bryan matches and awesome Goldust tags every week (funnily Goldust tags are one of the few fond memories I have Raw 2002/3). I stumbled across this board after listening to the Wrestling Culture podcast (but I am certain I lurked around NMB a couple of times). I think after listening to Dylan talk about how great Mark Henry is and how John Cena is perhaps the big match wrestler in WWE, I was certain this would be a great place to find stimulating and intelligent discussion. I came to this board knowing full well that most on here have seen more wrestling than I will in my entire lifetime but that is why this place has became one of my favorite pro wrestling destinations on the web. When I do watch stuff outside of the current WWE it is mainly just a few ROH and PWG shows a year just to get some sense of the faces on the indie scene. But this year I plan to expand my viewing habits, I am really excited for the WWE Network so I can check out WCW 1989 and 1992 for the first time and in top quality picture too boot. -

WWE Network finally happening

As someone who lives in Australia but who knows certain ways to still have a netflix/hulu account, this is the best possible outcome for me. Since they announced the network I was hoping they would choose this set up. -

So it was added because of Angle? I imagine 2008 voters might have looked upon Angle differently. -

Hi, I have been a little bit of a lurker around these parts and I got stumped up one something the other day and couldn't find the answer online anywhere, so thought the people on this board might be able to help me out So the thing I am stumped on is how is Kurt Angle in the WON Hall of Fame? How was he eligible in 2004? I thought you had to have been in the business for 10 years and Kurt started in 1998. Did Dave count Kurt's amateur years as well?
