How so? Too literally babyfaced? He's a really big guy, I figure that works to his advantage.

Found a music video by O.S.T.R., a rather famous Polish rapper, and though the song has nothing to do with it the entire video is young kids backyard wrestling in Poland. One of them wears a Rey Mysterio Jr. mask to boot. And weirdly, a lot of their offense looks pretty damn good.

I think one could argue it's passed Hockey. I don't know if I'd go quite that far... but a reasonable case could be made. I'd say it depends on the area.

Harper's promo was really good. Bray's delivery is more theatrical I guess; Harper's is intimidating.

They got rid of Batista in just about the quickest, most direct way they could.

Sounds like having the audio off and listening to something else was the right call. I loved the show and didn't have the presentation bother that, though to be fair I more or less tune out anything and everything from the commentators.

Not necessarily in order other than how they came to mind right now: 1. Genichiro Tenryu 2. Dean Ambrose 3. Seth Rollins 4. Wade Barrett 5. Jushin Liger So some 2000s Japan and current WWE is what I'm watching.

"Mediocre athletes that tried like hell to get good are the best coaches." In a strictly outcome-based medium, like most sports, you'd probable rather have the elite athlete than the guy who is just a pretty good athlete but knows the little things. In something that has more stylistic elements, like professional wrestling, you'll find that guys who are super elite athletes don't always make the best performers (see: Kurt Angle).

Body hair makes you look like a coward. Seriously though, it's not an intimidating look. Impressive in some ways, but not intimidating. If I had to fight my way past someone who looked like Artur Taymasov, someone who looked like Zydrunas Savickas, or someone who looks like the Ultimate Warrior, I'm going with the dehydrated one that's about to gas out.

There's no way the diving headbutt helps and it's likely a big detriment. It's not particularly over either. No reason to do it.

Agreed on Fox. And damn, Bryan needing neck surgery is a punch in the gut. One you could see coming, knowing it's going to happen eventually, yet it still hits you square in the gut.
-
I think I could get it done, especially by going nuts in August like I intend to, but a bit more time wouldn't hurt.

Tenryu's look, even old Tenryu, never bothered me. Tenryu doesn't seem like the guy who would bother lifting, he seems like an ornery old bastard. I don't think his shape was ideal, it simply doesn't bother me. Hansen had a great look for the big, mean, ass kicking redneck persona. Dick Murdoch too. Guys who were big and strong, still great athletes, but you could see them putting down a beer or twenty.

His selling reminds me a bit more of younger, AJPW Funk. The way he flops and shakes and teeeeters back before falling over. Either way, he's been a revelation as a face and great as a FIP.

I was thinking that, but if he puts a hood up I think it'd be easy to miss him, especially in lots of Chicago. He's a pretty big guy, but he's not exactly Batista walking down the street.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread

We'll see going forward, but I can't see Kalisto and Mojo Rawley wrestling the same style. -
If he lived up in like Glenview where the Bears players are (and where Pat O'Connor used to live) then he'd probably be fine. Living in the city proper can't help, though I do think it's a wrestling fans thing to take it to another level. Plus, who was the last wrestler that meant as much to a city as Punk does to Chicago? Not to say he's number one on the list, not even close, but he's very much a celebrity and beloved figure here. Didn't know you were a Chicagoan, Loss. That's a good point, but I think other pro athletes, save for the most famous, are less recognizable than someone like Punk to his fanbase. Someone like Jay Cutler or Jeff Samardzjia would be recognizable as the biggest players on their teams, but even most pro athletes get less direct, focused face time on TV than someone like Punk.

I don't resent the guy for getting paid, especially since he freely negotiated a contract with the WWE. If they're dumb enough to grossly overpay him, then he should take it.

Maybe now Vince finally has a reason to stop pushing Sheamus.

WON Awards (First Third of the Year or so thoughts)
Steenalized replied to Dylan Waco's topic in Pro Wrestling
My #1 and #2 MOTY are the same as yours, Dylan. Right now I'd probably put The Shield vs. Evolution at three, since I loved that match, though I think I'm putting it well above where most others would. -
So if he completely changed his physique, stopped doing what gets him noticed, and got rid of his biggest flaw, he could go further than Reigns and Ambrose?

It's worked well in boxing. Don't really buy that argument. Completely different sport, scenario, and situation. Plus, they don't have a madman shouting nonsense through their headsets. There's nothing inherently wrong with a three man booth. It can work and our small pool of samples, coupled with the madman shouting nonsense like you said, don't exactly dispel the idea.

I liked the Mania match a lot yet hated last night. Last night was all the worst aspect of WWE cage matches (namely, the love of escaping), constant interference (again, in a friggin' cage match), horribly contrived spots, Cena refusing to learn anything mid match, and then a nice big "screw you" at the end when Bray didn't even pin him.
-
I actually hate when the ref doesn't count the pin on the figure 4.
