I have the match, if you still need it.
-
People have their reasons for nominating who they want. You don't have to agree, but in general I think the whining about certain nominations is fairly pointless.
-
My apologies then.
-
And that's you going on whatever agenda you have and ignoring what others have said on the topic. How you get "You like what you like, let's move on" from "Subjective art breeds endless discussion and exchanging of opinions and ideas" i don't know.
-
Why do people dislike the Springboard Stunner so much? I'm usually one of the people who shakes his head at stupid or silly moves, but the Springboard Stunner doesn't bother me at all.
-
I'd love Thatcher in that atmosphere, but has Jeff Cobb made his appearance on the show yet? If not I could see him being played as the monster destroying people for Cueto.

Art is a theory based field. It doesn't matter what medium or form you are speaking about; different theories can be ascribed to art. There are some theories that view art as either good or bad, and there being facts involved. Personally I don't believe in those theories as I ascribe to art as being subjective through and through. One of the main reasons I feel it's better to take the "art is subjective" approach is the discussion it can engender. If there are right and wrong answers then there really isn't any discussion to be had. However, when art is treated as subjective endless discussion can be had. It's not a game of proving one side right and the other wrong; but of exploring the art and the ways it connects to you and others. Difference of opinion just means more lively, and fruitful discussion. To me that's a lot better than, "You're wrong, end of discussion."

Exile on Badstreet #3 = The Rebirth of the Indies
BillThompson replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It's always interesting to me that OMEGA and ECWA (at least pre-2001) are generally omitted from talk of modern indies. For me those two promotions are what started the idea of the modern indie. -
Right now my answer is Bret. However, I have a lot of Cena viewing gaps to fill in, and if he works like I think he can during those gaps he will have a much longer period of sustained greatness than Bret.
-
I have Hash above all of them, and I don't think any of them will be overtaking him.
-
Thanks for the info, asked about this one because it seemed to have no info available for it.
-
About to start watching some of this, what were some of the promotions at the time? Gilbert Cesca vs. Billy Catanzaro took place in what promotion for instance? And do we have an actual date on that match?

Eaton has a real shot at making my top 20, and Morton isn't very far behind.

Did I miss it and Tim became a regular co-host? As for Quake, the Scott Keith comments ring true for me. I've never denied that I grew up viewing Keith as a guiding light in my wrestling fandom. If he said a guy sucked then they sucked, there was no other possibility. If he said a guy was awesome then they were awesome, and even if I had my doubts, like with Shawn Michaels for instance, I convinced myself that I was wrong and Keith had to be right. Honestly leaving wrestling for a bit was probably the best thing that ever happened to me because I moved away from thinking of Keith as gospel. I realized that he and I were quite different, and that we were polar opposites in what we valued in wrestling, and wrestlers. I still shake my head at the fact that I missed out on so many good-great workers just because Keith said they were shit and I was dumb enough to follow him blindly. Quake is definitely one of those guys. I respect the heck out of the guy now and find that in terms of making every second of a match count he is a great worker. He can meld his style to meet faster paced guys in the middle, and he really understands the importance of timing. His WWF work is really good across the board; except for the Golga stuff but I put most of that on the type of wrestling that era of WWF predominantly produced. Alan Counihan turned me on to a fantastic match from UWFI in 1994, Vader & Tenta versus Gary Albright & Kazuo Yamazaki. Vader and Alrbight are the stars of the match, but Tenta is really great in the match as well and shows off how well he understood the importance of timing and the moment.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
BillThompson replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I thought they had all but phased out the TNA moniker and we're mainly calling themselves Impact Wrestling now? -
I won't lie, having to delete all the rest of the 4CR shows, none of which I'mt fond of, is an annoyance. But it's a minor one, so keep the present feed or get your own, I'll listen either way,

Miz is pretty shit in the ring. He's been able to craft a decent character, but that character always falls apart the moment he has to wrestle. Charlotte is decent in the ring, she's more of an athlete than a wrestler. When in the ring with higher quality wrestlers she does very well, but when in with people who are still developing or equal to/beneath her level the match is usually no great shakes. I think a lot of that comes down to how her best and worst attribute is her athleticism. It allows her to have these really cool moments, but it also stops her from bothering to chain sequences together. I mean why bother when all anyone cares about is how athletic you are? Still, I'd take Charlotte, and the overwhelming majority of women wrestlers in the WWE, over Miz.

I like Booker, but not enough to consider him a top worker. Too sloppy and formulaic, never all that memorable.
