What may keep her around is that ESPN is notorious for paying their female talent the bare minimum. I'd have to imagine she probably makes as much under her contract WWE contract as she would an entry ESPN contract. Add in Renee loving wrestling, dating Ambrose, and the rep of ESPN for allowing their female employees to be sexually harassed and assaulted and that may be a recipe for her staying with WWE.

I think that's an acceptable, or preferable, length of time. I'd really like to see the company return to longer form booking and slowly work the fans back into understanding that storylines play out over stretches of time, not just one month.

If you mean worst as in unintentionally great, then yes! :-) Oh yeah, I had fun with how awful he was. Highlight had to be when Luger makes his appearance. Savage and Monsoon go on and on about Luger and him being an all-American, etc. After about three minutes of this there's a minute of silence and Donovan finally chirps in with, "who's the guy in the American flag shirt?"

RoH announced today that they're returning to cable/satellite PPV. They hyped this up as a huge announcement, but in the day and age of the Network I find this to be a step in the wrong direction. The Network works, it's creating a cheaper model for wrestling fans to get their fix. Requesting that the fans pay $25+ to one event isn't really a viable option moving forward I don't think. I'm not sure how RoH would do it, but at some point I think that they, and any number of indies who want to be bigger, are going to have to take on a streaming model close to that of the Network, because PPV just isn't the way to go anymore I don't think.

I'm watching King of the Ring '94, and Art Donovan is considered the worst celebrity announcer ever, right?
-
It wasn't just Apter for that match though, Meltzer loved it as well, so did Scott Keith, and so did a ton of casual and hardcore fans if my memory serves me right. I watched it a month or so ago, and it's really not very good at all. It's a sprint based spotfest where all four guys blow numerous spots. It popped the crowd big though, I'll give the match that much.

I know it's coming, but I'm chomping at the bit for them to put up all the Clashes and Saturday Night Main Event's. I can't wait for them to get up even more stuff in fact, but either way I'd have to say that so far I'm happy with the way, and the pace at which, they've rolled out content.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

I remember Matt D. asking a while back about the Hart Attack name being used for the Hart Foundation's Bearhug/Lariat Takedown combination. I can't remember the specifics of the question, but I think it had something to do with if it was ever used in an actual match, or the first time it was used. Well, I was just watching King of the Ring '94 and when Owen and Neidhart hit that combination on Razor Ramon in a post-match downbeat Savage calls it the Hart Attack. Not sure if this is relevant to what you were asking Matt, but I heard it, remembered that conversation and figured I'd mention it here. -

SuperBrawl IV, versus Flair. -
I'm not sure if I completely love Bunkhouse Buck/Dustin Rhodes from Spring Stampede '94, but it's one heck of a satisfying brawl. I much prefer it to Nasties/Jack & Payne from the same show as in this match Buck and Dustin went at it non-stop and didn't spend as much time wandering around trying to set up spots. A mean, violent, and nasty match, and one that I really dig.

I can vouch that your last sentence holds true for my wife. She hates wrestling, and hates that I watch it. One of her main reasons is that all the guys look like roided up neanderthals and the women are nothing more than strippers. If I remove myself from the bubble I can easily see that her observations are quite realistic and probably explain why much of the general public is still able to easily snub their noses at the product.

I guess I'm in the minority in this thread in that I just watched Hart/Bulldog from '92 and thought it held up really well. Not just on Hart's end, but I realized that I'd always given Bulldog too much of a hard time for his role in that match. He holds his own and adds a lot to the match.

I just wanted to thank this board for a decided lack of snark. That's one of the things that helped to drive me away from the pro wrestling community ten or so years ago, and I'm happy that this board is relatively free of it. It's not the joking that I find troublesome, because everyone likes to laugh and have a good time. It's stuff like telling others they're wrong if they have a different opinion than you. People disagree all the time around these parts, but they respect each others opinions. I was just listening to a podcast where they railed about how Daniel/Trips from WrestleMania XXX is not a good match, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. That years from now people are going to look back at XXX and realize it was a mediocre show, and that there were no great matches. They finished by saying anyone who doesn't think they will do that is just wrong. My take is, there's nothing wrong with not liking Daniel/Trips, or XXX as a whole. It's all about how one presents their opinion and how accepting they are of others opinions. This board has plenty of great, and different opinions, but I rarely see discussions grind to a halt because one person feels the need to tell everyone else that they're wrong, or intimate that people who think differently than they do are stupid. Basically I'm happy this place seems to avoid that sort of negative discussion. -
I'm a big fan of pre-Rockers break-up Shawn Michaels. Post-Rockers break-up Shawn certainly has his share of great matches, but there's something missing in that version of Shawn for me.

Vader landing in a three point stance after an attempted Moonsault may be the most amazing thing I've ever seen in a wrestling ring. -
Cool beans, thanks for the info. A heads up for when the feed is created would be appreciated.

To be frank, the wellness policy is still a joke. I don't really think it's affected anything, or changed the climate at all. The wrestlers have simply done what all athletes do, find new ways around the test and changed the types of PEDs they are taking.

Married with kids? When do you have time to watch?
BillThompson replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
I'm married, and have an eight year old daughter. My wife absolutely hates wrestling, and my daughter has no interest in it. This makes it very hard for me to find time to watch, so I have to find time when I can, here and there. -

Is the little tether rope in the corner of the ring for tag matches strictly a WWF/E thing? I can't recall now if I've seen it in any other feds, and last night I was watching some 93 WCW and I noticed they didn't have the tether rope present. -
I think it's a great match, but the ending is botched pretty badly and upon rewatch does not come off well at all.

The Jim Cornette Experience

It's not irrational when everything she says is darn near terrible. -
I think some matches can be great in isolation. The build, or follow-up, can certainly help a match, or hurt it, but all the same there's sometimes when great wrestling is just great wrestling, regardless of if there's any angle present or not.

Battlebowl '93, Booker T's inability to not laugh when Vader gets selected to team with Cactus Jack and absolutely kills Rip Rogers simply for being present is pretty great stuff. -
Is this going to show up in the Network's iTunes feed?

Got this idea from the Matches you must love, but don't topic. Basically, we all have matches we love that others don't seem to care much for. What are some of yours? I'll start things off with Lord Steven Regal versus Ricky Steamboat from WCW Fall Brawl '93. It's not a famous match or anything, but I thought it was a really great match. Yet, the overwhelming majority I read about it pins it as disappointing, or at the very best merely good. It has its fans, but we seem to be very few.
