Has wrestling gone overboard with the various streaming services?
donsem43 replied to rzombie1988's topic in Pro Wrestling
Sendai Girls announced today that it will have a streaming service soon. Shimmer also has said that it's streaming service will be starting in a few weeks. They are going to start with uploading older footage first, (Vols 1 thru 60) then slowly add on from there. -
Be prepared for the "Io Shirai to WWE" to start up again if she loss to Momo Watanabe on 5/23. Especially when after Toni Storm lost the Progress Women's title fans were treating it like it was her farewell.

The whole NEO Biishiki-gun gimmick is awesome. You wouldn't usually buy Saki Akai as an ass-kicker but here it works perfectly. Azusa Christie doesn't do anything flashy but fantastic at working her character and making everything that she does count. The Apricots were good, not nearly as sloppy as they were in their match on the 1/4 show. The only thing keeping this match from being great was the contrived setups to contrived setup to some of the big spots. Otherwise, this was a really strong match. ***3/4

I would give WAVE Network the edge. They didn't post the Ohata/Nakajima match from the Catch the WAVE tournament seemingly because GAMI was pissed that fans were making gifs.

WAVE Network has removed every Ayako match that was on the service.

Figured that Ayako would be smart enough to not accept a gift from Sugi.

I thought something might be up when she lost the Catch the WAVE final, but then again it's WAVE so who knows for sure.

No real build for this match but these two just match up so well naturally I don't think anyone will complain. This opens up with some very nice matwork that both of them use to set up each of their main offense. The main body of the match has a tremendous flow to it. There is a fair bit of back and forth but the transitions are done so well that it never comes off as spotty. The finish worked because they were just in the middle of a finishing run so the draw felt natural. Just a phenomenal match. ****1/2

The sprint cars that run mainly on dirt ovals? No, I never really got into them. I did really get into Aussie V8 Supercars when Speed Channel was around in North America. I wish they had an international streaming service.

[2018-04-19-Sendai Girls] Ayako Hamada vs Chihiro Hashimoto
donsem43 replied to Jetlag's topic in April 2018
Chihiro's new ring gear is awesome, her new entrance music is not. Anyway, the match starts out with some very well done exchanges that show off the contrast between Chihiro's amateur style versus Ayako's lucha. From there, the match has Chihiro controlling with her power while Ayako would find smart ways to counter back. Ayako has had an up/down year but she was great here. Chihiro continues to have very good/great title matches despite questionable booking. Overall, a very strong main event title match that hopefully won't be overshadowed by Meiko/Io being on the same card. ****1/4- 1 reply

I became a cord-cutter a couple of years ago and that pretty much ended watching any TV shows on a regular bias. I'll binge watch something on a weekend or while I'm on holidays but that's usually it. I mainly watch sports now, primarily hockey and baseball, although I don't stick to just watching my favourite teams (Leafs for NHL, Angels for MLB) I'll watch all different teams. For example, the Yankees/Red Sox series from this week was fantastic, playoff caliber baseball in April. I also watch a fair bit of motor racing but it's mostly niche type stuff like sports cars and rallying. I don't watch either F1 or NASCAR at all. There is actually a fair bit of sports car racing that have official streams for free on YouTube. In fact, I'm watching the Nurburgring 24 hours this weekend.

Didn't Barry Windham hook up with Loni Anderson? It will interesting to see how women who are casual WWE fans react to Almas. He seems like a guy who could get a noticeable following there. After watching some of their Snapchat/Instagram stuff, WWE is really missing the boat with the Riott Squad. They are three different women with unique looks and have great chemistry together but none of them have much of a character on TV. I always get a kick out of how Asuka comes off as such a badass to people but her ring gear is basically women's underwear complete with a thong. I'm surprise that more joshi wrestlers don't try to sell merch to English speaking fans, Io Shirai and Hana Kimura especially. Hiroyo Matsumoto is the only one that I know of.

Meiko vs. Io from the 4/19 Sendai Girls show is phenomenal.

The main event for the fourth night of the Catch the WAVE tournament is a matchup of two former winners. Ohka continues her strong run recently here as she works a match were she wisely avoids a lot Mizunami's power attacks and takes some measured shots of her own. Mizunami does a good job of selling for Ohka's offense despite Ohka looking be far the least imposing of the two. Just a strong display of very smart work. ***3/4

This is a match on Mika Iida retirement road. The match itself only goes a little more than six minutes but it sure as hell an awesome six minutes. The whole match is just a constant flow holds being exchanged with a few strikes and suplexes being mixed in. It could have used a couple of more minutes to get them to build to more of a finish, but it's really hard to complain with what they did here. ****

This is from the fourth night of the Catch the WAVE tournament. Momono puts on one hell of a performance here. I was very surprised at how Momono went right at Ayako but in a way that fit her character. She manages to keep Ayako off balance for most of the match. When Ayako wins, it's more due to Momono lacking the true finishing move to put her away more than anything else. Tremendous stuff. ****1/4

This is a rematch of the World of Stardom title match that ended when Iwatani hurt her arm only a few minutes into the match. They play off of that in the early going as Toni does some nice, Bret Hart style, subtle heel work. First, she tricked Iwatani then ended up going after her arm anyway . The middle part of the match did a nice job of leading up to the finish although I though the finish itself didn't have as nice flow to it. In the end, it is nice that they were able to have a great match after the awkward situation in their first one. ****

This is Viper's first defense of the SWA title that she had just won a couple of shows ago. Not only is Jungle in her hometown but it's also her birthday. So her entrance ends up being a big deal and the match itself has great heat throughout. Jungle's pride gets the better of her at the start as she tries to show off her power by attempting to slam Viper. This backfires, allowing Viper to squish Jungle and for her to start using her size to were Jungle down. Jungle does make a spirited comeback highlighted by her powerbombing Viper out of the corner. The finish has a really nice exchange of near-falls with the crowd getting into each one. A strong title match. ****

If you want to catch up on current stuff the 1/21 show with the loser leaves faction match is a good place to start. If you're looking a best of then checkout the MDA and my spreadsheets. -
This is from the third night of the Catch the WAVE tournament. These two take about a minute and a half to feel each other out then just start going right at each other with bombs. They still do manage to not force any of the action either so that while the match is short, it has a nice flow to it despite the constant use of big moves. An absolutely tremendous sprint. ****

Finished watching the first two of Stardom's DreamSlam shows. The only match that I would say that people really need to see is Toni/Viper from the 3/28 show. The tag title match on the 3/31 show is pretty good to but I liked the Apache's match with Io/HZK from the 3/21 show a bit more. As a whole, the 3/31 show is pretty disappointing because it looked like it could be a fun show on paper. The most amusing thing about the show was seeing all of the creepers in the crowd. Hopefully the 4/1 show will be better with Viper/Jungle and Toni/Iwatani.

Shimmer hinting on Twitter that they will have some sort of streaming set up soon. -
In this match Toni puts her SWA title vs. Viper's ICW title. Out of the matches that this two have had with each other this was my favourite. They pretty much cut out the cutesy 'watch Viper do World of Sport spot' part of the match in favour of just throwing flat out bombs. Viper also took some nutty bumps including a piledriver from Toni on the stage. The only thing I didn't like about this match was Toni no-selling an apron dive and a Michinoku Driver from Viper. Other than that, this match was a super fun bombfest. ****

I think the people who are high on the match are the ones who are really into the Tam/Oedo Tai storyline. Even looking at the match from that angle, I don't think it did a good job doing capitalizing off of that story. Yeah, Tam hit Mean Girl Sumire with the bat and pinned her but neither of those moments where as dramatic as they should have been.
