  1. Thread for Mia Yim vs. Santana Garrett Really well done title vs. title match.
  2. This is a really well done title vs. title match between to very good indy women. They did a nice job of showing off how even they are while still making it look like a competitive situation. My favourite part was when they teased a couple of typical non-finishes between champs with a double countout and double pin. The finish had some really nice back and forth. It came off as the proper way of doing a your turn/my turn finish as they worked in enough selling and struggle to make it convincing. ***3/4
  3. Thread for Emma vs. Asuka at Takeover At the start of the year it would have been crazy to think that Kana's best singles match would have happened in a WWE ring.
  4. I really like how they laid out this match to how they booked this feud. They found the right tone for Emma's character as she realized how dangerous Asuka is but still thought she could beat her by outsmarting her. Also really liked Emma's in-ring performance, she worked really smart and laid in a lot of her shots while not being afraid of taking anything from Asuka. It was cool to see Asuka dust off some of her old strike combos. The most noticeable difference between Asuka here and her work in Japan is how much she plays to the crowd. She rarely worked in front of big crowds in Japan so it's nice to see her adjust and work "bigger" here. The finish was smart even if there was a few minor issues with the execution of it. ****
  5. Right here. I'd also recommend checking out Jessicka Havok vs. Kay Lee Ray and the Santana Garrett vs. Evie title match. Both are really good but a bit on the short side.
  6. Thread for Su Yung vs. Madison Eagles The biggest surprise for me putting together this list. Really strong storytelling fueled by the character work of Yung.
  7. I've always enjoyed watching Madison Eagles but Su Yung really stood out here. Yung is working a Kabuki/Muta gimmick and manages to work in the unpredictability of her character into the match. Any time that Eagles seems to have control of the match Su is able to counter and attack from different odd angles. Madison starts getting desperate and just start throwing out big bombs but Yung somehow keeps surviving. That comes to an end at the finish as Su is distracted by Saraya Knight in the crowd and Eagles goes all in by hitting a powerbomb on the turnbuckles and a Northern Lights Bomb to finally keep Yung down for good. Terrific storytelling with great character work from Yung. ****1/4

    NXT talk

They seem to have the same approach as the men. Mix of indy workers and raw recruits that fit their typical sterotypes. I wouldn't say that they've completely left their old ways behind. Liv Morgan/Gionna Daddio use to work for Hooters. Carmella was a cheerleader for the Patriots and Lakers, Dana Brooke was a bodybuilder, and Alexa Bliss did both of those. Even with her family background, Nia Jax is a former model.

    TLC 2015

Watched the pre-show match. Thought it was pretty good up till after the not-Bank Statement by Sasha then it fell apart at the end. On the pre-match stuff, if you read Sasha's twitter it's clearly something B.A.D. made up not sabotage by backstage types. They should make #Snatched an on air thing because it's entertaining and actually heelish.
  10. I assume Cheerleader Melissa is the woman with her back to the camera and the pigtails?
  11. Mauro can get pretty loud so maybe he just won't hear Vince through the headphones. I wonder how the NXT guys feel about this since Cole seems like a lifer at this point.

    TLC 2015

Paige should bring in her mom, Saraya Knight beating the hell out of Ric Flair would be something else.
  13. The trailer for season 2 is up. Hyped for Puma vs. Pentagon, Drago vs. Jack Evans hopefully in a nunchuks fight, and Rey Jr. vs. everybody especially Muertes.
  14. Stardust and the Ascension have the worst gear currently.
  15. 2015 Joshi: Kairi Hojo breaking Mika Iwata's nose. Mayu Iwatani legit KOing Hojo with a dragon suplex. Meiko Satomura DVDing Hojo on a stage. Hikaru Shida deciding Arisa Nakajima doesn't need to walk anymore.
  16. You might want to try K-1. It's really just kickboxing with more open rules but a lot of the names come from a variety of martial arts backgrounds. Andy Hug, Peter Arts, and Ernesto Hoost are the big names from the 90's who usually had exciting fights and the odd spectacular knockout. If you like more pace and technique there's K-1 Max, which is their lightweight division. Masato, Albert Kraus, Andy Souwer, and Buakaw are the big names there. Meltzer use to rave about their shows and do full reviews of them and he was right about them, lots of great stuff.
  17. Thread for Meiko Satomura vs. Mayu Iwatani for the World of Stardom Title If you ever wondered what Meiko would look like if she tried to be Brock Lesnar then here you go.
  18. This match is actually fairly similar to the Hojo/Iwata match earlier in the card except that it "Champion vs. Rising Star" so it's a bit more advanced. Satomura dominates the early going by simply overpowering Iwatani with matwork and strikes. Mayu tries to stick and move to counter but it only takes one stiff shot from Meiko to regain control. Iwatani does eventually manage to get a nice run on offense but she ends up making the same mistake that Hojo did in July by trying to trade strikes with Satomura and that's just a fight that Mayu isn't going to win. Meiko puts an exclamation point by hitting a nasty DVD then putting Iwatani to sleep. ***3/4
  19. When you look at the amount of TV time that the women get now, plus the sheer amount of women they have under contract. I don't know how you don't look at setting up a separate show/brand for the women. Right now, there's 11 women who can work in ring on the main roster, 8 regulars on NXT, about 3 on NXT who are doing jobber duty while getting ready for a regular role. Probably another handful who are still training doing NXT house shows (Athena). That's as many women that any of the women's indys (Shimmer, Shine, WSU) use on a show and around the size of the roster that AJW had during it's peak years. All of that for 2 segments for each of Raw and Smackdown, plus a match on Main Event.
  20. I'm thinking about doing something like this for U.S. indy women too. Just how much of a gap (if there even is one) is there between Sasha and the likes of Sara Del Ray, Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, Serena Deeb, Madison Eagles, Mercedes Martinez, etc? Is Sasha just getting hyped due to more exposure?
  21. Thread for Kairi Hojo vs. Mika Iwata FYI, Iwata is one of Meiko Satomura's new trainees.
  22. While this is pretty much a veteran vs. rookie match, there's enough fire and stiffness to make this stand out on its own. This starts out with the typical vet beating down of the rookie with Hojo controlling things. Iwata is finally able to get on offense when she avoids a charging Hojo and follows up by slamming Kairi on the floor. She then focuses on Hojo back, even breaking out a really nice looking Regal Stretch. Eventually though, Hojo just has enough of this and just starts drilling Iwata with strikes topping off with the absolute nastiest spinning backfist that you will ever see catching Iwata right on the nose. Mika tries making one last comeback but gets jacked up by a running forearm from Hojo and another spinning backfist that splats blood from Iwata's broken nose onto her cheek. That's a visual that I won't be forgetting for awhile. Quite the rite of passage for a rookie. ***3/4
  23. Rewatched Lesnar vs. Reigns, thought it was really great, and probably would have voted for it but... While I really like the idea of Rollins getting involved, it should have been something that turned the match on its head, but instead it just directly lead to the finish. That sudden stop at the end seems more like a match structure issue then a booking issue, at least in terms of the match itself. This wasn't a problem at the start. If you go watch the Paige/Sasha match from Raw that I have on my list, that match got some time and had some pretty good heat for both women. Sasha had only been on the main roster for a week or two, but she managed to get over quickly and kept the crowd engaged the whole way through. The problem is they haven't ran enough of these types of matches on Raw, usually putting them on Smackdown or Main Event and not even bothering to mention them afterwords.
  24. Blue Pants is over in NXT the same way Sasha is over on the main roster. Put her in a match that goes more than 5 minutes and her heat would disappear. Same thing happens to her on the indys, people love the concept but don't care about the actual wrestler.
  25. NXT spent 2+ years building up their women's division to the point where two people who were no-names when it first started became not just the biggest stars of the division, but of the entire promotion. Even if the Iron Man match disappointed, the company would still be pushing it as an important moment. Compare that to Sasha vs. Becky on Main Event a couple of weeks ago. While Sasha gets "We want Sasha" chants and fans holding up 'Sasha Section' signs, she gets very little if any heat during her actual matches. It's really bizarre when you look at it, it like smart fans want to look cool chanting for her but honestly don't care when she's in ring. If Bayley and her had the Brooklyn match in front of that crowd and earned that kind of reaction then that would be one hell of an accomplishment.
