Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard

Returning to this, you might want to hang in there for the stories about the origins of Undertaker. Best part of the show. -

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Nice big long Survivors matches, as nature intended. Only other things so far are Lesnar-Goldberg and Dolph v ????? -

Can't argue with all that, but here's another - match length. 4 matches (including very long 10 team matches at each event) worked nicely in 87 and 88. Without the tag team match in 89, it moved to 5 matches in 89. No complaints about feeling rushed on any of the first three years. In 1990 you're moving to 6 matches (plus gobbledgooker), resulting in rapid fire eliminations and nothing really given time to breathe. -

Why did you like it, Matt? I thought it placed limits on booking the undercard (to ensure a decent heel/face divide) and went against Vince's trope of not liking tournaments because you can't promote the final match. -
605 Podcast Episode 50 - The Doctors

Anyone who is put off by the "wackiness" should at least skip ahead to the interviews, they are always great The wackiness can be the best part where some great stories come up that have nothing to do with the original line of questioning. I call this section the "lucky dip". That's true. This week there's great stories about Jerry Graham in the top 10. However, for newcomers, I can understand 2 hours for the possibility of good stuff being daunting. Tom Prichard interview was great. -

To be fair it's easily missed - it was only when looking out for it in the shot that I spotted it. -

Glad to hear you'll be doing Survivor Series 88 soon. The Warrior v Honky and Roberts v Andre team matches were always clipped on UK release, I only got around to watching them in full today. Jake earns his high ranking on your GWE here, Kelly. -
605 Podcast Episode 50 - The Doctors

I haven't listened yet, but one thing I always appreciate about Brian's interviews is his ability to get guests talking about things they haven't covered in other podcasts. Looking forward to Dr Tom for that reason. -
http://605pod.com/2016/11/06/episode-50-doctors/ The MOTHERSHIP has landed and another highly sought after episode of the Superpodcast is here! Kurt Brown, aka Vandal Drummond, takes his seat in the co-host chair again to join The Great Brian Last on another journey into a classic wrestling state of euphoria. This week’s show features: – An extensive interview with Dr. Tom Prichard, covering his days as a fan and his earliest days in the wrestling business. We talk about the differences between West Texas wrestling and Houston wrestling, Wild Bull Curry, working in the Houston office as a teenager, training with the Iron Sheik, Gino Hernandez and much more! Also, Tom shares his memories of working in Los Angeles, Portland and Atlanta, as well as his thoughts on working with Chris Colt. This interview is one of the best in Superpodcast history! – Sheldon Goldberg joins the show for the Dennis Of The Week, paying tribute to his friend Dennis Coralluzzo. Sheldon talks about how important Dennis was to the progression of independent wrestling and what he meant to the 1990’s independent wrestling scene. We also hear about what the Massachusetts indie scene was like. This is a really fun conversation that sheds light on the often ignored history of independent wrestling. – Part two of our John Tolos audio, this time featuring interviews from June of 1971 dealing with Tolos’ feuds with Mil Mascaras and Fred Blassie. – As usual, the Top Ten turns into a series of wide ranging conversations, as TGBL & Kurt discuss topics such as All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling, The Bionic Wrestler Lars Anderson, Dick Lane, Los Angeles studio wrestling, Rex Arnold, the Los Angeles independent scene of the early 1980’s and much more! Kurt also shares some amazing stories about Dr. Jerry Graham! The Top Ten also features Sheldon Goldberg’s stories about Mike Lano, and appearances by Stuttering Tommy Rich and the Impressionist Jim Ross! CALL SOMEBODY! Time Stamps: Superuniverse Top Ten (0:17:54) Fantasy Booking (2:09:30) Here and There (2:16:00) John Tolos audio (2:30:09) Dennis Of The Week with Sheldon Goldberg (2:37:39) Dr. Tom Prichard (3:03:12)

Yup. -
As WTBBP has just reviewed SuperBrawl 3, there's been a bit of talk about whether WCW delivered anything as good as the strap match until Rey-Eddie at Havoc 97. I'll be curious to see your input on that.

I don't think I'm getting butt hurt (dictionary..?) - its just that the whole adversarial stance grows tiresome quite quickly when you know the show will, and does, go on. -

Unfortunately we're stuck with that because there are so many idiots who get off on the idea of Conrad being the great voice of truth (i.e. internet folklore) while Bruce is just a corporate puppet of Vince McMahon towing the company line (even though he has not worked there in years and the last wrestling company he worked for was TNA) so part of the gimmick of the show now is Conrad challenging Bruce on stuff and the easiest way to do that is to ask about money because he already knows Bruce isn't going to go there. Agreed. It's all rather tedious. -
Any chance of a podcast on all this, loss?

Your weekly fix of the Superpodcast has arrived! Popular co-host Tom Robinson is back in the co-host chair this week, joining The Great Brian Last, for another fun trip on the Mothership! This week’s show features: – An extensive interview with Colt Toombs, the son of Roddy Piper. Colt and his sister Ariel’s book on their father, “Rowdy,” was recently published and is our Book Of The Week. Colt talks about the process of putting this book together and tracing his father’s story, as well as what Roddy’s intentions were when he started putting this book together. This fun talk illuminates a Roddy Piper that fans never got to know and explains the origins of the rowdy one! – Classic audio from October 18, 1983 of Captain Lou Albano and Fred Blassie on Rod Luck’s radio show in Philadelphia. This show, recorded the day after the famous Jimmy Snuka cage match with Don Muraco and less than a week after the passing of the Grand Wizard, is a fascinating time capsule to the period right before the WWF would aggressively compete against the rest of the wrestling industry. Callers ask about Hulk Hogan, Crusher Verdu, Ric Flair, the status of the WWF Championship in the magazines and more! – Dan Farren joins the show again to discuss his appearance as the masked referee on the infamous television special Exposed: Pro Wrestling’s Greatest Secrets. – As discussed on last week’s show, we get to hear John Tolos interviews from 1970 in Los Angeles. These interviews, which were taped off TV for Bob Barnett, are the only example of Tolos’ amazing work during this period of his career. Tolos discusses upcoming matches with Fred Blassie, Mil Mascaras and Man Mountain Mike. – TGBL & TR talk about a multitude of topics, including Tony Schiavone, Bruno Sammartino, notorious fans, Justin Liger, Halloween Havoc 1992, Dave Brown, Tom’s hatred of Tony Garea and night out with the Clique and much more! Plus appearances from Impressionist Jim Ross & Stuttering Tommy Rich! CALL SOMEBODY! Time Stamps: Superuniverse Top Ten (0:16:11) Fantasy Booking (1:35:56) Here and There (1:53:27) Dan Farren on Pro Wrestling’s Greatest Secrets TV special (2:01:46) John Tolos audio (2:09:22) Lou Albano & Fred Blassie on Philadelphia Radio (2:22:11) Colt Toombs on Roddy Piper book “Rowdy” (3:13:15)

I think the secret to enjoying WWE is not watching everything. Sometimes I watch the TV if it's building up to a big show or I have some time I want to kill, but generally I just watch the "special events" and anything particularly good that's pointed out online or in a podcast. I don't think you miss much this way, and most of the feuds are explained in video packages or on the preshow. Agree completely. There's so little that's wildly surprising/must-watch-live about the product that filtering through it is essential to me.
