Caught up on four of these back to back on Friday. I really like the way you draw on your own late 70s - early 80s memories and allow the conversation to veer - gently - into politics and history at appropriate times.

We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!

Really interesting discussion with Chad about the different generations of fans, keeping up on twitter and pwo2k. -
What Happened When with Tony Schiavone

Listened to the Goldberg show, quite good. It seems a shame they don't have a better interviewer than Conrad though. Not looking forward to more 'read from the Observer and await response' episodes. -
PWO2K #1: Wrestling In The 2000s - January 2000
BigBadMick replied to Loss's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I'm curious about something that was briefly remarked upon here. You won't be watching angles and promos as part of pwo2k. When do you feel they really fell off a cliff enough not to be worthy of discussion? Was 2000 that much worse than 1999, for example? -
The crowd are replacing gold with 'bro' whilst singing. Pretty funny stuff.

[2000-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 2000] Jushin Liger vs Koji Kanemoto
BigBadMick replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
First thing that came to mind with this was Lesnar/Cena at SummerSlam. Just shocking, statement-making stuff. Enjoyed it while it lasted. -

If we're discussing current day Smackdown, doesn't WWF tv from approximately Feb-Sep 2000 deserve a mention? The product was red hot, with great main eventers in Rock, HHH and Foley, and great strides being taken up the card by Benoit, Jericho and Angle. As well as a tag team revival (granted, a lot of that was stunt ladder matches etc, but it was hot as hell at the time), and solid to exceptional work up and down the card. Wasn't the head writer at the time praised for his sense of continuity and storyboarding each character's interactions to maintain order? The only possible drawback in all this was match length - weren't they still operating a no-matches-thru-commercial-breaks system on Raw and Smackdown?

Psychology is Dead Master Thread
BigBadMick replied to Quentin Skinner's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Slowly making my way through the Top 50 wrestlers podcasts, really enjoying hearing about lesser known talent and promotions. Tim, I was wondering about your stance on not really reviewing edited tv matches - does this apply across the board? For example, isn't Lucha Underground trimmed here and there? And is it the quantity of editing that bothers you, or just the fact that it's not the complete match either way? I'm asking because it's not something I've ever heard others being quite so strict about. -
U.S. express v Harts in 1985, purely for Windham v Bret.

Where the Big Boys Play #90: Slamboree 1993
BigBadMick replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
That's 58 matches, breaking down as follows 1990 - 8 1991 - 6 1992 - 12 1993 - 8 1994 - 10 1995 - 1 1996 - 4 1997 - 5 1998 - 2 1999 - 2 I had tried to think after SuperBrawl 3 if there were many really high end WCW matches for the rest of the decade, with only Havoc 1997 immediately coming to mind. There was a bit of chatter along those lines here http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/35772-where-the-big-boys-play-88-superbrawl-iii/ ...so it's interesting to compare/contrast. -

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
BigBadMick replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Not many comments on this show lately. I'm still listening weekly (hey, I've a long workday) and - if they're genuinely surprised by the blowback - it's astounding that they thought they could discuss Sunny's book and details of her relationship with Michaels without upsetting anyone in WWE. -
Funny enough I was listening to his recent interview with Al Snow earlier today. Wade has his good and bad points, and they stand out particularly in comparison to Meltzer. I find him much more articulate and consistent in his views, but with a much narrower range of interests than Dave (exclusively US wrestling from 1980s to now, basically). I think he's a far better interviewer, and seems much more prepared and able to steer conversation. Where he can fail is in trying to shoehorn in his own particular talking points though.

Cheers Boss

Shouldn't kick a man when he's down/gone, but I listened to the whole thing. A sense of dread, then disbelief at his rambling came over me. 'Does this man really think any of this is worth listening to?', came into my head a few times.
-
Oh, he's gone? His podcast was a bit bonkers too.

I was a bit sceptical but this worked out really well. Is it MSGs, PPVs and SNMEs going forward from Jan 85 then, or any other shows in the pipeline?
