  1. I'd love to hear some discussion about the use of music in WWF from 1985-93. At the beginning, having music made a wrestler stand out. By the end of that period, anyone without music seemed really weird.
  2. He wanted to fight. He did. Win or lose, 99.9999999% of the population can't say that. That's ballsy for someone who really isn't a natural athlete. I respect him. And lol at the HHH reaction, a guy who probably has never been in a "real" fight in his life what did HHH say?
  3. Well, yeah. Power Slam (and even it's predecessor, Superstars of Wrestling) was my gateway to everything beyond WWF. In 1994, I got in touch with a tape trader advertised in there. Among the first things I ordered were the 1989 trilogy and the Flair-Funk matches. Sampled bits of All Japan, New Japan, Sabu and most 80's US territories too.
  4. Had you not watched much NWA prior to the Flair DVD? I've mentioned this before, but I'd love to get a sense of when and how your fandom developed.
  5. I've listened to the Montreal episode today. Maybe it's listening to so many so quickly, but Conrad's investigative reportor stance and Prichard's coy responses are getting a little tiresome.
  6. Really impressed with the way Conrad cuts through the bullshit on the Warrior episode. He lets Prichard away with absolutely nothing.
  7. Really enjoyable show - great chemistry between you two.
  8. Really liked the bit at the start on wrestling fandom. I'm in a similar jaded position with WWE - I don't like everything that goes on, but I've bigger fish to fry.
  9. Any chance of time stamps on this? Please.
  10. Really enjoyed that interview. Great podcast for unearthing curios.
  11. Come on - don't leave a man wondering.... What's so objectionable about Johnny Weaver?
  12. Not just Renee - the whole thing was 'Slater's southern, let's laugh at him'.
  13. Parv, have you listened Flair's podcasys with Valentine and Patera yet? If so, any good?
  14. Hope all went well with that.
  15. No show this week?
  16. Sounds good. Do you have a link?
  17. Now that you've started me on this nostalgia kick, I remember WCW first taking on a Saturday afternoon slot in Northern Ireland sometime in the autumn of 1990. Lance Russell commentated, it was almost entirely squashes. The biggest match I remember from then was Flair v Scott Steiner, with Flair pinning him after Scott had come agonisingly close to victory. Another thing that sticks out was Nasty Boys and Steiners constantly trying to interfere in each others squashes, but officials came out and they never, ever got to lay a finger on each other. Infuriated the life out of me.
  18. Watched this a whie ago, isn't there something funny about the editing on the finish? As though they re-did it or something.
  19. No, don't remember that one, Parv. But the very mention of Prisoner Cell Block H still sends a shudder down my spine. Any idea when you'll get together for the January '93 Clash?
  20. Well, since you asked.... Best matches 1. War Games 2. Rude v Steamboat, Beach Blast 3. Arn Anderson vs. Barry Windham (6/6 WCWSN) 4. Windham and Pillman v Steamboat and Douglas, Starrcade 5. Sting v Vader, Starrcade Best Wrestler 1. Steamboat 2. Rude 3. Windham 4. Arn Anderson 5. Dustin Rhodes Hell of a year, hell of a lot of memories. The attempts to tape it at 2am certainly ring a bell, Parv.
  21. During the first fall, I couldn't help but think back to a sign at one of the tv tapings for Mid-South in 1986 'Michael Hayes - All talk, no cock'
  22. The story about Reed and Nord fighting backstage was in Watts' book too. Great episode, and as mentoned it's nice to have a profile like this before someone's passing.
  23. Yes, I was right. Fascinating stuff - really nice to go deep on a lesser-known subject.
  24. PARV IS BACK, BABY! I feel like singing My Boyfriend Is Back! Don't know what you mean by Hashimoto being two-dimensional, but I am pretty sure I disagree. Don't know that is a major blind spot for me. That seems like a slam dunk to me. Junior was in a high profile spot from 73-83. Am I underrating Fuchi's 80s? We talked about this. It is overrated, but it an upper tier run in terms of being heat magnet. It is not Flair '89, but it is in Top 50 or so calendar year runs. Hmmmmmmmm...it is close Have not seen enough Hase. I disagree. You will watch '93 WCW and realize you are wrong. Benoit match and tags with Bagwell against Blonds. I like Tiger Mask in Original UWF and the one Dk match I watched was pretty good. I can get behind this. I don't think this is against the grain. You are focusing on the wrong thing in this case though. They are both great in different ways. Lol @ Mooney. Tully is pretty bitchin' at promos. I totally agree with this! Don't really care for most Tully matches. It is close. LIEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I prefer the early 90s also except for 97. 97 is so so good. I rewatched '98 WWF from March through July and it is quite entertaining. Really good continuity. Disagree! '99 does probably suck. DX '97 maybe my favorite in wrestling ever period. It is so short, but that may be the best heel run ever. I love bombast, pomp & circumstance, so yes I dig HHH's entrances and his heavy metal iconography Jabroni matches, promos AND ANGLES is what TV should be about. Bullshit. 2013 was incredible. I like VinnyMac, but still will take Tony & JR. I abhor Gorilla. He is an asshole. Havent watched much, but yeah American wrestling and puroresu >>> Lucha Parv (if you're still with us), I'd love to get an understanding of what you watched and when before starting WTBBP. You have some very peculiar ideas sometimes......
  25. Good show! Do you have a copy of your Report cards? Got a bit more difficult keeping up towards the end.
