I can see how that's better in the abstract, and that might get them some of the momentary mainstream acceptance that they love. Given the WWE's love of beating everything to death (especially on Raw), wouldn't the self-congratulation just become irritating? In this case they probably have some overdone Attitude Era finish planned for the World Title match, and those sorts of things work best when they go on last.

The preshows on the 4 hour shows have been 2 hours, so it's more like a 5.5 or 6 hour show from first match to last match.

February to May was probably their strongest period this year. Some of the March shows are on their new site, and they're all worth watching, but the culmination of the tour is missing. Maybe someone should bug them about uploading that again. I really liked this show: http://www.stardom-world.com/2016-2/6-5-2016-nagoya/ I would also recommend paying attention to the tag-team tournament that just started. The first two matches they uploaded are pretty good.

I totally forgot about that tournament. The list of invites from Japan and Europe will be very telling. I think the general 'controversy' about intergender wrestling has died down in the past year, so maybe they care less about hiring someone with heavy experience in that area. Also, if they keep pillaging the women's indie scene, up-and-coming female wrestlers in some areas will either have to work men or go to Japan to get experience. Hiroyo would be a pretty good fit for WWE. She has a lot of physical charisma, can work both "power" and more fast-paced styles, and has the advantage of being the same size as a lot of the American women.

I think a podcast (or even just a short series of episodes of another podcast) focused on women's wrestling would be interesting. Most of the high-end stuff on tape is joshi, but I'm sure you could find some interesting topics from the indies and 2000s WWE if you tried. It would probably also help to have a female cohost.

I feel bad for enjoying these clips of Total Bellas on YouTube:

She also has a lot of experience as an ace getting matches out of people that they would otherwise have no business having. That will come in handy dealing with the high variance of experience levels amongst the women that go through NXT / WWE. Who's next amongst the indie women who frequent Stardom to go to NXT full-time? It seems like if they wanted Santana Garrett by now, they would've taken her. Kay Lee Ray has the chops in the ring, but she doesn't have the look they want. Heidi Lovelace was at the last tryout, but I don't know if she was signed. I'd really like to see Evie end up in WWE eventually, or at least go back to Stardom for a tour. And I would imagine that Toni Storm will end up there at some point after she's done with Stardom.

The latest Observer says that Io Shirai is definitely going to WWE next year and Kairi Hojo is considering the offer, with the obvious question of whether she could pass a physical. Apparently the people trying to convince Kairi to stay are saying that WWE will always treat her second-class to Io, whereas if she stays she'll be the biggest star in Japan.

Asuka's squash match on this week of NXT was great. She managed to work the usual joshi trope of making fun of American women for acting overtly sexy into a no-selling squash match. She's also cranking up the swag a bit more than in the past.

Daniel Bryan's comments on Talking Smack about HIAC (around 8:00 on the Network video) are hilarious.

The JK Green / Oedo Tai match in the tag tournament was really good.

If you believe Meltzer, the WWE's investment gave them no controlling interest and they had no idea this was coming. Given the porous nature of the wrestling business, that does seem a bit hard to believe.

Ellsworth was good for a while, but they're probably going to screw themselves and ride the dead horse through a ghost town in the middle of a nuclear winter. At the end of the day I don't mind a bit of Wyatt magic BS if the rest of the show is a good wrestling show. The big problems with Raw are more pervasive and can't be avoided by just skipping segments.

I don't know if Sasha has really changed as much as people think. She had a small number of great matches per year, and she still does. She was botching overambitious spots and taking time off for injuries back then too; it just wasn't as noticeable due to the NXT schedule. In NXT her character better matched her strengths, probably because they did some practice promos, determined her range as a performer, and booked her accordingly. She could probably still cut a good heel promo, just like she did in NXT, but they made her a face and she's bad at that. It's unfortunate that her career will probably be cut short. She has enthusiasm and ambition but can't take the punishment she puts on her body. She weighs as much as joshi wrestlers that are half a foot shorter than her, and they're not working the WWE house show schedule on top of the high-impact matches.

After Carmella dogging Nikki for getting her spot because of Cena, it was great to have Nikki end a match with Cena's finisher (and doing it crisper) to follow it up with Carmella coming in for the beatdown. Smackdown has been doing a pretty decent job of adding some reality into storylines without having it come off as forced or too over-the-top.

They probably knew that the WWE and others were looking to acquire indie wrestling content and felt that the change in direction was inevitable, so they tried to move first and strike a favorable deal for themselves.

I kind of stopped listening to the PTBP when you entered the Reign of Terra Ryzin (not your fault) but I'll dip my toes back in here and there. I decided to listen to this because there was no Thursday podcast. It sounded like you guys really had fun recording this, which was amplified by this being such a good show. I might start paying more attention to this podcast again.

I just watched this. Such a great promo. There's something about her inflection and mockery here that really reminds me of the best aspects of Stephanie McMahon.

Billy Corgan's legal plays on TNA are better than any authority figure loss-of-control angle any promotion has ever done.

I'm more excited for HIAC than I thought I would be, and even more than I should be given the buildup. They have 3 matches that could each main-event a PPV, at least if they weren't in a cell. Everyone in the New Day / Cesaro & Sheamus match is going to want to show that they can hang with the top of the card, so that'll probably be a great match as well. Raw had some pretty bad moments, like the Heyman promo and the Dana Brooke / Bayley segment. Dana isn't ready for the main roster, and it's not helping Bayley at all to be paired with that. Sami should be on Smackdown instead of this.

I thought this was an okay match, but given Hashimoto's other matches this doesn't live up to expectations for a meeting with Meiko. Everything from the point where Hashimoto threw her first German was a bit off. She came off the ropes and it looked like she was talking to the ref and Meiko before going for a lame pin attempt. The final sequence with Meiko no-selling what looked like a really brutal German almost threw me out of the match.

On that poster he looks like the evil version of himself from a Star Trek mirror universe.

I wonder when he'll do his first post-WWE shoot interview.
