  1. Really fun, fast-paced face v face match, albeit a little short. Kid took a couple crazy bumps, not just with the missed tope at the finish, but earlier he overshot the somersault plancha and nailed his leg on the barrier. And I liked JR and Gorilla as a team - they had a nice, relaxed chemistry, with Gorilla taking a backseat and letting JR do play-by-play. Wish we could have heard more of them together. (I seem to have overtaken Chad on the 93 yearbook. This would be more of an accomplishment if I wasn't sure he watches like, 5x the footage I do. )
  2. Besides the Shockmaster debut, this was by far the best Flair for the Gold segment on the yearbooks. Rude is so good at his reprehensible womanizing character, it's too bad that injuries held this feud back.
  3. Man, this was a great segment! From Jimmy Del Ray carefully rearranging Cornette's stuffed animals, Terry's absurd bandana and lightning graphics, but my favorite was Bob Caudle's indignation at the idea that Cornette could become SMW commissioner. He was really upset.
  4. Did they intentionally hire the worst Elvis impersonator they could find for this? King's promo was all dad jokes and one-liner insults, but Bret's had great fire.
  5. Breeze and Ambrose got plenty of time and Breeze looked good, but jobbing him out on his debut?
  6. Anyone else noticing a ton of crowd sweetening tonight? Boos seem to be kicking in a little late, cheers popping up at odd times.
  7. Well, It was fun while it lasted. I forget how big Titus is - Owens isn't small and he towered over him.
  8. Great work as usual. Bonus points for not even mentioning the rumor when discussing the Savage departure.
  9. This was awesome, so many great moments, from Ricky bleeding a gusher, to Steve Armstrong coming in an immediately low blowing all the heels, and Bob's great punches. I don't know if this is the best US match of the year, but it's certainly my favorite.
  10. Interesting to see how much WWE works with him. Might be tricky politics given their relationship with ESPN. But that might be a good thing, may make Bill (or whoever is directing this thing) look elsewhere and make it less US-centric.
  11. He's not wrong on the sugar, its got so bad in the UK because of strain it puts on the NHS. With obesity and diabetes now appearing in kids much earlier, as well as adults, there's talk of putting a tax on sugar. Its not just in soda, its put into most foods as well, so its a real problem. As for punching in MMA, it would kill the sport but he's 100% right not to watch for moral reasons. As we all know by now, the long term damage repeated blows to head causes. Do you feel the same way about pro wrestling? Hell, a simple bump taken flat on the back is a blow to the head, not to mention a fairly common move like a power bomb is probably worse.
  12. I wouldn't call this great, but ECW's handling of New Jack assault on Eric "Mass Transit" Kulas was an all-around fiasco. Even the wikipedia article has a victim-blaming section.
  13. The first time I've seen this since my dive back into wrestling. I remember not particularly caring for it then. Now? Holy shit, it blew me away. I'm sure that comes from watching it in (relative) context through the yearbooks, and also having a different appreciation of Hansen. Interesting to see how some of the other super clasicos look to my aged eyes.
  14. A corollary to this Ric Flair rule: if you loan him money, don't expect to see it paid back. It's best to consider it a gift and move on.
  15. Dave's probably just jealous of Bill Dundee's sweet ride:
  16. Never, ever trust Ric Flair. Especially if your name is Sting.
  17. "Caucasian Kamala" is the insult of the year.
  18. A friend and I had this conversation over text - the roster is big enough, they have to fill 5 hours of TV every week, why not add six-man titles?
  19. Can't say that I'm a huge Neville guy, but he can do some amazing spots. That phoenix splash (I think) off Cesaro's back was amazing.
  20. Looks like I'm the outlier - I wasn't super impressed with Chono here. This didn't feel nearly as intense as the tags with Choshu and/or Hashimoto. Maybe it was the crowd? Anyway, Tenryu was grumpy as hell, flicking sweat onto Fujinami, stomping Chono through the ropes. And Fujinami looked great too, busting out a sweet tope to take out Tenryu for the finish. Love love love this feud.
  21. I listened to Wade's surprisingly long interview on Les Moore's Talking Sheet podcast. I hate to pit Wade v. Dave, but it's pretty hard not to - look at the botched f4wonline redesign and then listen to Wade talk about teaching himself HTML and doing a lot of his redesign himself. Lots of good stories here, including how he first heard of Bruce Mitchell (through the WON's letters page!). Certainly worth checking out, as is most of Talking Sheet, for that matter.
  22. Speaking of penises, on Ric Flair's podcast with Kevin Sullivan, he said Sullivan had more foreskin than penis. Sullivan did not deny this.
  23. Can't believe no one mentioned Jerry Lawler's Main Event Rocket Assortment fireworks! You can win them at the Mid-South Coliseum Monday night (no purchase necessary).

    Minoru Tanaka

I nominated him as he was definitely one of my favorites in my early puroresu fandom. But that was 15 years ago - there's a bunch of guys I need to do some re-watch on before voting, Tanaka is one of them. I'm slowly watching the yearbooks now, and the NJ junior style I loved back then doesn't really match my taste now.
  25. This is obviously awful, but at least it had decent production values. As far as wrestlecrap goes, Hogan entering the Dungeon of Doom takes the cake for me.
