There is nobody that understands wrestling more while at the same time completely missing the point than Al Snow.

Great Post. Agree 1000% with the current WWE paragraph. I think thats the case with modern wrestling as a whole, not just the WWE.

I would put Test in this category. Great Look. Was solid enough on the mic. Good Athlete for his size. He screamed Main Event.

Cornette was god here. Bob knocking the shit out of him was awesome mostly because I wanted it so bad. Cornette was so good it surpassed the "wow, this is a great promo for cornette" thinking to "knock this mouthy asshole out, bob!" Absolutely amazing segment.

[1999-09-09-WWF-Smackdown] Ken Shamrock and Chris Jericho
TRMD replied to Loss's topic in September 1999
One of the best Jericho segments I've ever seen. Legitimately funny stuff. "This cage is for YOUR protection, Shamrock. Not mine." -

This was wrestling love at first site. I had never seen Kawada wrestle until last month when I watched Kawada/Fuchi v Nagata/Izuka. I thought that match was very good, but one guy stood out substantially to me. Kawada. I ran into Kawada again when I was doing my Stan Hansen viewing. Their match was certifiably great to me. And once again, Kawada really stood out. I decided I had to watch more of him, because he was too god damn awesome to be ignored. I've FINALLY got around to watching 3 matches. i picked these 3 because a poster in the Kawada GWE thread said that his best years were 94 to mid 95. Kawada v Misawa 4/11/94 Good match completely held down by Misawa. He had the crowd behind him 100%. Kawada was giving him the ass whooping of a life time. And he showed exactly zero fire or sense of urgency for 99% of the match. Kawada was great though. Vicious, but at the same time very methodical. He showed tons of urgency. Brilliant spot for me when Misawa kicks out of and the second he does Kawada goes right back to the Crab. Kawada seemed like he needed this win badly, and Misawa was sleep walking. Although, he did sell the whooping fairly well. Overall, Kawada was great in this. *Maybe I'm missing something on Misawa? What is his character like at this point? Was there a reason he acted so bored in this? Kawada v Akiyama 3/21/95 Very Good Match. Akiyama legitimately showed more fire in the first 2 seconds of the match than Misawa did in all 32 minutes of the match prior. Great pace to this one. Akiyama's fire never dwindled and Kawada controlled brilliantly. Gave an completely devastating looking One Leg Crab in this one. I almost felt bad for Akiyama. Loved the ending in this one. A breeze to sit through. 16 minutes absolutely well spent and another great performance from Kawada. Kawada v Kobashi 4/13/95 Holy Shit. This was an Epic. Amazing Performances from both men..but I think Kobashi takes the cake in this one. Every single action in this match felt so important. Each move was a battle in itself, as neither guy was going to make any submission or suplex even relatively easy to be done. Both guys absolutely destroyed each others knees. Tiny negative that there was really no long term limping or anything, but when a match is this great, I can deal with it. So much fire and passion. Intensity was A+. It got a little bit spot oriented at the end, but it made complete sense because it was obvious neither guy was gonna lay down. Brilliant Performance from both men. Brilliant Match. *If I was to give star ratings, it would be damn close if not the full 5 stars. I'm more than willing to take suggestions on more matches. Preferably singles, because I know when I get into the Holy Demon Army I'll be trapped in a worm hole of greatness that I won't want to get out of.

You'd never believe it, but I recently watched the ICP KC shoot and it was actually pretty good. They don't take themselves seriously in the slightest and they completely understand why wrestling fans really don't like them. They also come across as legitimately loving wrestling and they tell some pretty great stories about being backstage at WCW. You won't really learn anything new from it, but you might laugh a couple of times.

I thought Show promo before the match was hilariously bad. But that was a perfectly good match with greatness after the bell. Henry is awesome.
-
I would very much like it if Dolph went away for a while. Dyed or cut his hair, changed his attire, got a new name, and gimmick. And a new attitude. But he was pretty good in that segment.

They've done this, multiple times in NXT and in the indies before coming to the WWE. Again, no curve on my part, but hey I guess you are me and know how I grade better than even I do. Ugh... You do admit that a fair majority of wrestling fans grade on a curve, right? I mean, they were chanting "This is Awesome" at a recent (Summerslam?) AJ/Paige match that was, at best, just OK. Just because they were taking bumps on the outside.

This is me as well, although I think we are part of a smallish group who thinks that way. This is a perfectly acceptable line of thinking, and I'm actually in the same boat. But just because I'm more appreciative of someone making the most of their skill and not depending on athletic abilities, it doesn't make them better. That's not how in works in sports. If you're better, you're better. Doesn't matter if you're more athlete than skilled, it's how it is. Wrestling doesn't fit into this. You don't have to be athletic to be a great pro wrestler. Although, it certainly helps.

Is anyone actually in favor of writers writing promos? I've honestly never seen anybody support it. From the wrestlers themselves to fans.
-
Yeah, Khali is worse than many of the divas. But as Matt D points out, he's kind of on the roster because of celebrity. Also, sometimes he's so bad he's mildly humorous. Only Diva I can think of that fits that mold is Brie on the mic.
-
Yes x1000. If any guy in the company was as bad in the ring as the Bellas (promo or wrestling), they wouldn't be in the company.
-
Great write up, Will. I'd have to say that Lawler was absolutely phenomenal in every match of his I've ever watched. Which at this point (not including WWF/E stuff) is at about 10 matches. My absolute favorite of the lot being his barbed wire match vs Dutch in 82 (thanks, Dylan). Just an absolute slobber knocker.

I think Buff Bagwell was actually good enough as Marcus Bagwell to not even touch sniff something like this. He wasn't good, but he was OK.
-
I've read very few things in my life that made less sense. So, if the 76ers went and played the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, the 76ers would beat them by at least 50. But since the Mercury won the WNBA championship, they are better at basketball than the Sixers? That makes absolutely no sense.

When you take the "danger" out of something. Like a Nerf Football or a Nerf Gun.

I don't know of anything they could add to the Network to get 200k more subscribers. I think the Network is pretty awesome as is. But I do agree that if the product gets scorching hot, so will the network. Problem is, there is currently nobody being paid by WWE right now that is good enough to lead or start a real boom. And yes, I'm one of those "WWE being PG sucks" kind of guys. A "sport" with people doing such bad ass shit for a living shouldn't have such a nerfd product. The logo is nerfd. The wrestlers are nerfd. The promos are nerfd. The atmosphere is nerfd. The fans are nerfd. WWE is nerfd.

Excellent Show.
