dodgy Parv

Maeda was a great shoot style worker. I don't think he could completely keep up with the RINGS style he envisioned (especially once injuries caught up with him) but he still had some great stuff against the right opponents like Han, Tamura and Yamamoto. And I'll give him bonus points for creating a badass style in the first place. His sketchy RINGS resume doesn't diminish what he accomplished in UWF. When one of your main criticisms of the guy is "well he wasn't as good as Fujiwara and Ishikawa", well, it's easy to see why the critique fell apart, anyone who doesn't have those two in their top 10 is a wanker.
-
Someone try and convince me his ECW run is better than his SMASH/WNC run because I really don't see it. I don't think it played a significant role for must voters mind you.
-
My list is getting its ass kicked again. KENTA, Pirata Morgan AND Masanobu Fuchi? It's a cruel world.
-
I assume that is Atlantis and I am the high vote.
-
This isn't a very good set-up for a poor hivemind joke. You're a solid worker Parv but you should work on your feeding, can't rank you in my top 100 currently.
-
Bigelow being that high just shows me how many ballots there are outside of the 'PWO bubble' because the idea he is one of the best big men ever has been thoroughly debunked around here. How the fuck do you debunk an opinion? This isn't Mythbusters. Yes, debunking an opinion is something that would almost require a............hivemind.

If I counted right I have 57 wrestlers left. Very interested to see whether Masanobu Fuchi, Ikeda, Yuki Ishikawa, Christian, The Destroyer, Dick Togo and LA Park (among others) drop before 100.
-
I was just gonna say with Triple H gone I don't really care if anyone ranks I get why people like Undertaker, Angle etc. I'd never rank them but they don't bother me that much and then.........Jericho.

Evolution is a mystery Full of change that no one sees
-
Holy shit Sano. Will anyone outside of my top ten actually make the list.
-
Man so many wrestlers get vanity top ten votes and I end up the high voter on Koji Kanemoto? What happened to the people insanely high on juniors wrestling? Ultimo Dragon and Super Delfin get super high votes but Koji doesn't? And just as I type that there's Otsuka. Oh fuck. The top Battlarts guys are going to fall now as well.

I'd say Takada has more in common with Onita than a Yuki Ishikawa as far as the type of worker he was. His "lack" of matwork skills is completely overblown-he wasn't great, but he was most certainly good. I don't think there was a worker that was as good in incorporating melodrama into matches as he was. I made the comparison when talking about the Vader matches-a big Takada match is like a fight scene out of a Rocky movie.

How does one vote Inoki No. 1 for historical reasons, then leave Flair completely off the list? I think it's pretty clear by his ballot what kind of wrestling he likes man.
-
EXCEPT IT DID IN REAL LIFE
-
wookie's full list: It's wacky and pretty awesome. He said Inoki was his #1 for historical reasons alone, which seems fair, but he is a gigantic fan as well.
-
Even if you aren't a fan of his (I'm not) I think it's glaringly obvious Tanahashi understands how to construct a pro wrestling match much better than Triple H. His goal is to make the fangirls and the casuals lose their shit. He more than succeeds in that. The crowd heat in some of his most famed matches is outstanding. Closest Triple H got to that were The Undertaker matches but he didn't manage to accomplish something like that with the same regularity Tanahashi does.
-
No way. Okada making it this far pretty much guarantees Tanahashi and Nakamura made it.
-
I'm honestly surprised Takada held on for this long. He did better than I expected. First guy from my top 15 to drop. I expect Ikeda and Otsuka to drop before 100 as well. Maybe Maeda? We are Okada-free at last.
-
Perro being out sucks so much. Fourth guy from my top half to drop now. Big props to goc for ranking him so high. I considered ranking him as my #1 licha brawler but just couldn't do it, I think the case for Chicana is stronger.
-
I have ulterior motives and may or may not have used hivemind more because it sounded fancy than because I 100% meant it though I find it amusing how people get worked up over it.
-
I didn't call you out mate. I asked you to defend your position because I was interested in it. And the supposed "calling you out" would have happened after you replied twice to me. Come on. And also saying I think wrestler x has more worth than two others is completely different than saying something specific about one wrestler in particular. To Jimmy: Sure, if he doesn't want to go further than that no one's going to force him to. But he hasn't even replied yet and you're already defending that hypothetical scenario. I'd say it's in our interest as a community to get people to go further than that as often as possible.

It's boring as shit when people make these kind of posts that defend one sentence posts that shit on a wrestler instead of encouraging further critical evaluation, even if it is just a way of paraphrasing why someone finds a wrestler boring as shit. It's a message board for crying out loud. Discussion is the whole point of it. And let's not pretend this would be the general (maybe it would still be yours) tone if we were discussing a worker the PWO hivemind (which the results have amusingly enough transcended so far) deemed great.
-
And to add to that point: I find a lot of Tanahashi matches boring as shit. But I'd never seriously throw "Tanahashi is boring as shit" as a general statement in a match review or when talking about him as a worker outside of lazy twitter conversations or whatever. There are so many things in Tanahashi's work I can point to (and have) so those that do like him get an idea of where I'm coming from. I don't expect you to care enough about Inoki to critique him that much but when gener statements get thrown at wrestlers I doubt others would defend I feel kind of obligated to write something like this. Even if it is just something like "I don't find his matwork compelling", it tells me more and enrichens the discussion. So uhm there's that.

I haven't watched the Backlund draws but I can't take your argument that he doesn't do anything exciting seriously because of just how tangible the excitement is in his big matches. The Gotch match from 1972 is unlike any other wrestling match I have ever seen inthe way crowd expresses its appreciation of it and my gigantic review of the 1988 match here: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/33261-tatsumi-fujinami-vs-antonio-inoki-njpw-881988/&do=findComment&comment=5726651 specifically refers to moments of firing up that aren't any different from what you see in the US wrestling hulk up but they are incorporated into the match more smartly and naturally. There is plenty of valid critique of Inoki I'm sure. But this one I don't buy in the slightest.
