  1. Nobody's right. I would say there's no objective good match, everybody is gonna think something different about a match and nobody is right or wrong If you take the view that the wrestlers were out there to work for that crowd, then the crowd is obviously right. If you take the bizarre view that you appreciate wrestling in a deeper way than that crowd does, then you could say you're right
  2. I think you're making a flawed argument here because whether you liked something or not doesn't necessarily make it "better". I could tell you that I liked Plan 9 From Outer Space more than Citizen Kane and you could probably see where I was coming from even if you didn't agree with me, given that it's a matter of taste, but you'd probably still think I was an idiot if I gave Plan 9 a higher rating. I know Kane is better. You know Kane is better. I know why it's regarded as a groundbreaking masterpiece. Doesn't mean I don't get a bigger personal kick out of Ed Wood and his nonsense. I'm not sure I can agree with this kind of argument. It sounds a lot like you're giving something a higher rating based on reputation. What could possibly make it better if you enjoy it less? Imagine if Citizen Kane was identical except instead of being remembered as a classic it was almost completely forgotten and you watched it; would you be fine with giving it a lower rating than Plan 9 From Outer Space?
  3. The CM Punk vs Chris Hero Ladder match from 2002 is pretty great
  4. If your gonna be semantic about it at least get it right Cornette would tell you it's Norm Dooley's formula
  5. Didn't this guy get given the IWGP Championship because he beat Bob Sapp in a fight in K-1 when Sapp was champion or something weird like that
  6. It has a cagematch page: http://www.cagematch.net/?id=8&nr=807 I seems to have started in 1990 and dissolved when Hamada went to Michinoku Pro in 1995. Kaz Hayashi, Men's Teioh, TAKA and Jinsei Shinzaki all wrestled there briefly before the Michinoku-Pro debut show/ Can't tell you why Hamada called it that, I'm not sure that a UWF existed in Japan when it was formed though. Why are there so many companies in wrestling history called UWF?
  7. Red shoes is literally the worst ref of all time, his over the top pouty serious face he pulls, reacting wildly to forearm exchanges, the hulk hogan style ear cupping to hear if a guy is giving up. He just wants to be the centre of attention when a ref should be avoiding that at all costs.
  8. I legit turned off the show when Craig explained the contest idea, it was so stupid and a recipe for people sending in racist stuff. Seconded.
  9. If it is I think you need to adjust how you give out star ratings.
  10. It seems weird with all the world of sport guys nominated that nobody nominated Mick McManus.
  11. Niether of those matches would be what I'd call great they'd both be a little under four stars for me. Additionally, Big Show had a last man standing match against Del Rio on a smackdown a couple of years ago that was similar but better and the Bryan match was probably below average for a Daniel Bryan PPV singles match.
  12. Neither guy has a shot at my list but Kerry Von Erich would have to rank higher if I was doing a top 500 or something, Kerry has the big longevity advantage, in the great multi-man matches that they were both in, Roman feels less integral to them than Kerry and outside of the Brock match Roman has never looked great in a singles match.
  13. It is out there somewhere I think I remember enjoying it when I listened to it a couple of years ago. But Herd basically says everything bad that happened wasn't him
  14. Kobashi Kawada Misawa Taue But 6 months ago i would've put Misawa ahead of Kawada so we'll see if/how this changes again before March 2016

    Bob Sapp

Bob Sapp is someone with a rep as a terrible worker who I irrationally love. Even though his execution is bad, I always feel like his offence looks like it could kill someone and he carries himself in an incredible way, like if we give guys points for the way they walk to the ring he's gotta get something for that. He won't make my list though, he didn't have very many matches in his career and if he did his act would've probably gotten old. His best matches are: vs Kensuke Sasaki vs The Great Muta w/ Mutoh vs D'Lo Brown & Jamal vs Jun Akiyama
  16. I didn't know people complained about that, but I guess it makes sense that they would, a wrestling move is as effective as it's portrayed to be so if people usually kick out of it the first time it makes sense that a monster like Rusev would also kick out of it the first time. I have no problem with guys kicking out of finishers, not everybody needs to have a deadly move that nobody kicks out of, but I do wish that guys like Cena maybe had a Liger type repertoire of moves they sometimes win with, so that when an AA doesn't put somebody away the audience thinks that maybe the top rope legdrop will.
  17. Is the Cena ending really a problem? It makes sense for his character; he's supposed to be a sort of superman. Although I do think that Bret-Diesel finish is great and better than the Brock-Cena finish because of how it plays off the match long thing of Bret trying to get the upper hand on the gigantic Nash with his smarts and technical skills. At first I was saying this to kinda disagree with you, but I guess I'm only disagreeing with you if you think that the Brock-Cena finish should have been like the Bret-Diesel finish. Anyway both guys are awesome, but I think Bret is better largely just because of things I usually consider not that important like versatility and that he executes moves in a much less sloppy way.
  18. In the 80s almost exclusively teenage girls, then as time went on it seems the male audience grew and the girls that The Crush Gals drew mostly grew out of it and by like 95 it looks like it was around 2/3s men 1/3 women
  19. I think that having a story conclude with a match isn't a problem at all. If you construct a story in such a way so that two compelling characters both want something and to get what they want they must beat the other on in a match then the wrestling match acts as the resolution of the conflict, which is a key part of almost all storytelling and anyone women or men can potentially get invested in that. Although I do agree that Magnum TA vs Tully Blanchard is a storyline wrapped up in a lot of masculinity but not all storylines need to be like that
  20. Bob Sapp Match Reviews: http://mypuroresutapes.blogspot.ie/2004/03/new-japan-wrestling-world-2004-tokyo.html http://www.keijimutohcentral.com/review-11.17.02.html http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2013/01/04/wrestle-kingdom-7-an-absolute-classic/
  21. It means a bet match, it's a match where the wrestlers are both putting something on the line, usually their hair or mask
  22. I feel like both of these guys did great stuff over a very long period of time, but Tenryu was consistently great and Jumbo was very hit and miss until the last few years before he stopped wrestling
  23. Tamon Honda has been nominated.
