The match you reviewed is the 2013 dome show, the first Okada vs Tanahashi match is in February 2012

CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling
El McKell replied to goodhelmet's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It's all part of creating more brand awareness, the more people think about Jimmy Johns the more likely they are to buy Jimmy Johns. The target for advertising aren't people who never tried it, but more people who occasionally buy Jimmy John subs and trying to get them to have the product in their mind so they buy more often -
Certainly does to TNA era Jarrett, wouldn't say so for 94/95 WWF Jarrett, I think he was usually pretty damn good there

CM Punk on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling

He doesn't sound as critical about the medical stuff as he could've been If what he says is true. Punk received the fucking worst healthcare treatment I can imagine. He doesn't explicitly tie stuff together that really should've been cos I didn't cop on to how horrible it all was until like an hour after I listened -Gets concussion -Passes concussion test -Throws up every night after matches (because he's concussed) -Gets put on antibiotics -Gets MRSA (which he's more succeptable to because he's on antibiotics) -Doctor fails to diagnose him and gives him more antibiotics -
It's fine, but it's way worse than the match they had during the G-1

I don't buy that as an argument, so do you think in the gifs Matt D posted those guys should like bounce off? and what take a back bump?

Well I suspect if I don't make a post here there's a good chance this thread won't ever have any posts. Natsuki*Taiyo is my favourite joshi wrestler of the 21st Century (which I realise is not a great era for joshi), she's a really fun high flier, I'm always excited by the blistering pace she tends open matches with. She also gets points for the way she makes good use of her tiny size ways most people don't, like the way she kinda runs up from mat to middle rope to top rope or the way she gets people up for her sitout powerbomb which I can't really describe. Links to a few matches: vs Yuhi: youtube.com/watch?v=3wR6jVvLw4M my personal favourite Taiyo match vs Io Shirai: youtube.com/watch?v=NJqUgQNml7U vs Kyoko Kimura: youtube.com/watch?v=qCzuADG2Ud8 a fun brawl type thing around koruken Nanae Takahashi, Natsuki*Taiyo, & Yoko Bito vs Kyoko Inoue, Keiko Aono, & Sareee: youtube.com/watch?v=QdDl04BPPr8 A trios match in which I think Natsuki is the standout

Finally got around to doing the googling required to find some Natsuki*Taiyo reviews: http://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1241-2014-yesno-ddt-joshi-and-the-lil-indies/&do=findComment&comment=153457 and she's in one match reviewed in each of these old 411mania articles: http://411mania.com/wrestling/into-the-indies-11-22-11-dantai-taikou-flash-tournament-part-2/ http://411mania.com/wrestling/into-the-indies-11-29-11-dantai-taiko-flash-tournamet-part-3/

I have not seen this. Do you recall which show, so I can check it out? Nitro: January 25th 1999 Google is pretty useful for stuff like this

It's hard to answer a question like 'when did WWE commentary go to hell?' because it's had lots of ups and downs. It was much worse in 2011/12 with heel Michael Cole and Booker T, or the horrible commentary team of Vince and Doc Hendrix, I think Cole is pretty damn good right now even if Lawler and JBL are terrible. But what do I know my favourite commentary team is Mike Tenay and Don West

That's the one from The Great American Bash in 96? When I watched that show about a year ago I was shocked at how boring that match was, didn't like it at all
-
I watched a few of Rogers matches yesterday, four matches from the Chicago film archives, including an absolutely fantastic match with Lou Thesz, and then a 61 match with Pat O'Connor and a 63 match with Killer Kowalski. I've decided from this small enough sample that he's clearly amazing and as Bill says ridiculously smooth and should be in my top 100 but it'll be difficult to figure out where he belongs without more stuff to watch
-
This is me as well, although I think we are part of a smallish group who thinks that way. I think that the way that Matt's post is phrased almost all wrestling fans would agree with him, because the 'effect' is all anybody really is impressed by, it's just that what using your ability to great effect is means very different things to different people
-
I wouldn't make that sort of judgement since I took place in the original poll without being particularly qualified. What I was trying to get at is that if you've identified your priorities (as some people have) then I hope they properly explore them as Parv has been doing, for example, or Matt. I realise not every one can participate to that extreme, but two hours over eighteen months is doable. I just wanna point out that two hours over 18 months isn't actually a small amount, because if you do it for all the nominees it'd have to be like 9 hours a week over 18 months

Rob Van Dam Saw people mentioning him in the 'your top 100 right now' thread and even though he's a long shot to make my list I figure he should be nominated http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/14627-rob-van-dam-vs-dan-kroffat-ajpw-super-power-series-060995/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/11402-sabu-vs-rob-van-dam-ecw-the-doctor-is-in-080396-stretcher-match/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/26715-rob-van-dam-vs-bam-bam-bigelow-ecw-house-party-011098/

I put together a list of around 100 possible top 100 contenders in no perticular order about 2 weeks ago before i started actually watching anything for this project. Figured I may as well post this here, in large part for myself so i can easily look on here and see who drops off this by the time I've watched stuff from all the nominees Kenta Kobashi Misawa Kawada Dr. Death Vader Jumbo Hansen Jun Akiyama Taue CM Punk Edge Cena Jeff Hardy Daniel Bryan HHH Jericho Benoit Christian Eddie Guerrero Angle AJ Styles Samoa Joe KENTA Hero Kyle O'Reilly Michael Elgin Davey Richards Sami Zayn Ricochet Tozawa Shingo Masaaki Mohcuzuki Chris Daniels Dynamite Kid William Regal Tanahashi Nakamura Shibata Nagata Minoru Suzuki Okada Ibushi Devitt Low-Ki Steen Austin Aries Claudio Castignoli Flair Steamboat Ted DiBiase Terry Funk Dory Funk Curt Hennig Arn Anderson Tully Blanchard Brian Pillman Austin Foley Mysterio jr Psichosis Johnny Saint Tiger Mask 1 La Parka Jerry Estrada Negro Casas El Hijo Del Santo Jushin Liger Great Sasuke Koji Kanemoto TAKA El Samurai Jinsei Shinsaki Randy Savage Scott Steiner Bret Hart Owen Hart Bobby Eaton Stan Lane HBK Seth Rollins Hulk Hogan The Rock Brock Lesnar Lioness Asuka Chigusa Nagayo Dynamite Kansai Toshiyo Yamada AJA Kong Manami Toyota Mayumi Osaki Akira Hokuto Kyoko Inoue Juventud Natsuki*Taiyo Mutoh Hashimoto Riki Chosu Kensuke Fujinami Ultimo Dragon

Im calling it a positive but it's not like the match is great by any stretch of the imagination
-
Watching that match is like doing a line of cocaine

This guy is clearly a master technician, reversals, holds and escapes that are unlike anything I've seen from anyone else. Watching those three matches Jetlag recommended all in a row may have been a bad idea becuase they're so similar to eachother that I became less excited about Sarjeant after each one, not that they aren't great performances but they are sorta like the mat wrestling equivalent of spotfest. I subsequently watched a match he had with Mick McManus which while not as techincally impressive was a different sort of thing and still really good, Sarjeant showed something a little different in it getting super aggressive looking for the submission after he lost the first fall.
-
Watched the trilogy against the Funks, the Hogan match, and the two Billy Robinson matches mentioned in this thread. The Funk matches got better from first one to last, with the 78 one being very enjoyable but Abby was the worst performer to me in those. The Billy Robinson wild brawl sucked and the more technical match was fun in the first fall but lost steam as it went and by the finish I basically didn't give a shit about it, which is the opposite of what should happen. The Hogan match was the worst of the bunch, just chops, fork stabbings and a hulk up and also Hogan doing a big splash right onto Abby's knees and then selling? Was Abby just incapable of getting his knees up for the spot? If so why do the spot at all? Abdullah the Butcher is not making my list

If you don't mind illegally downloading stuff I'd recommend his match with Chris Hero from Battle of Los Angeles 2010 and if you wanna watch something already on YouTube: Akira Tozawa and BxB Hulk vs Naruki Doi and Ricochet from Kobe Festival 2013
-
Don't get too excited, by March 2016 I could end up having a similar perspective to the rest of this board. I'm mainly doing this to give me a good reason to discover and explore stuff I haven't seen; Memphis, Mid-South, Lucha before '91 yknow so who knows if these people I nominated will by in my 100 by the time I watch all this stuff
-
So what I did was produce a list of just over 100 people who I would consider as potential top 100 candidates without thinking much about it and 16 of those were not nominated already so I figured I should make a whole bunch of nominations. Sorry about the super long post -Jeff Hardy: his microscope thread has more than enough in it: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/19656-jeff-hardy/ -Kyle O'Reilly: he has matches with threads on here but there seems to be nothing in those threads. Anyway most of his best work has been in PWG in the past 18 months or so, particularly vs Davey Richards at Is Your Body Ready and vs ACH at Battle of Los Angeles 2013, also his tag team work with Bobby Fish is fun, worth checking out is their match against Alex Shelley and KUSHIDA from the G-1 finals show this year. -Michael Elgin: again he has a bunch of matches with threads but no posts in them, don't see much point in providing links to those. -Lo Ki: microscope thread with plenty of reviews: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/29461-low-ki/ -Davey Richards: seen some hate for this guy on this board already, and I understand that he has matches that build up and up then finish on a total down note but he's a athlete and knows how to make himself stand out unlike guys like rodrick strong or eddie edwards Anyway can't find reviews on here, hoping these nominations will actually count without having to review loads of matches. -Akira Tozawa: Again loss has made a bunch of threads for his matches but no posts except for in this one: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/22183-dingo-vs-akira-tozawa-acw-guilty-by-association-011611/ -Takagi Shingo: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25909-cima-naruki-doi-shingo-takagi-vs-dragon-kid-genki-horiguchi-ryo-saito-dragon-gate-030605/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25953-bxb-hulk-cyber-kong-shingo-takagi-vs-cima-ryo-saito-susumu-yokosuka-dragon-gate-051007/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25980-masato-yoshino-naruki-doi-vs-dragon-kid-shingo-takagi-dragon-gate-082808/ -Masaaki Mochizuki: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25005-masato-yoshino-vs-maasaki-mochizuki-dragon-gate-011614/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25817-darkness-dragon-genki-horiguchi-magnum-tokyo-vs-dragon-kid-ryo-saito-masaaki-mochizuki-vs-cima-taru-don-fuji-toryumon-071402/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/27085-minoru-tanaka-vs-masaaki-mochizuki-battlarts-052798/ -Christopher Daniels: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/21806-lax-vs-christopher-daniels-aj-styles-tna-no-surrender-092406/ -Katzuhori Shibata: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25902-toshiaki-kawada-vs-katsuyori-shibata-njpw-chrono-stream-110304/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25922-takeshi-morishima-mohammed-yone-vs-kenta-katsuyori-shibata-noah-3rd-great-voyage-110505/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25938-kenta-katsuyori-shibata-vs-akira-taue-go-shiozaki-noah-shiny-navigation-090906/ -Yuji Nagata: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25863-kenta-kobashi-vs-yuji-nagata-noah-navigation-over-the-date-line-091203/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25962-hiroshi-tanahashi-vs-yuji-nagata-njpw-explosion-100807/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25946-yuji-nagata-vs-minoru-suzuki-njpw-wrestle-kingdom-010407/ -Kazuchika Okada: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25372-hiroshi-tanahashi-vs-kazuchika-okada-njpw-wrestle-kingdom-vii-010413/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25305-kazuchika-okada-vs-hirooki-goto-njpw-021114/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25972-kazuchika-okada-vs-kota-ibushi-njpw-strong-style-42nd-anniversary-show-030614 -Kota Ibushi: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25972-kazuchika-okada-vs-kota-ibushi-njpw-strong-style-42nd-anniversary-show-030614/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/21848-kenta-taiji-ishimori-vs-kota-ibushi-naomichi-marufuji-noah-summer-navigation-071507/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25963-taka-michinoku-dick-togo-vs-kota-ibushi-madoka-k-dojo-overthrow-120107/ -Prince Devitt: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/24984-kota-ibushi-vs-prince-devitt-njpw-wrestle-kingdom-viii-010414/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25995-alex-shelley-chris-sabin-vs-prince-devitt-ryusuke-taguchi-njpw-circuit-070509/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25370-prince-devitt-vs-low-ki-vs-ryusuke-taguchi-njpw-wrestle-kingdom-vii-010413/ this match doesn't have Ryusuke Taguchi in it but Kota Ibushi, just saying -Seth Rollins: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25356-the-shield-vs-wyatt-family-wwe-monday-night-raw-030314/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25550-john-cena-vs-seth-rollins-wwe-smackdown-122713/ http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/25548-roman-reigns-seth-rollins-vs-daniel-bryan-kane-wwe-monday-night-raw-052713/ Natsuki*Taiyo: There's no real full match reviews for her on here, which I expected because who watches joshi from after the early 00's. Did find this in a joshi for people who don't watch joshi thread

His selling is great and I disagree with exposer that the Sandow match last year was a 'super cena' situation, I personally thought that was a great match and it's one of the rare times I've actively rooted for someone to win a match simply based the bell to bell action. To me the only really egregious matches with Cena overcoming out of nowhere after taking all the offence are the I Quit match with Miz in 2011 and the otherwise awesome Lesnar match in 2012. Anyway John Cena is a great worker despite being sometimes sloppy and delivering punches to the gut that look like crap. He'll probably be in my top 50
