  1. Actually, here's a video with the commercial breaks from the 3/30/99 Nitro so we can look at what advertisers they were able to get:
  2. As for the claim that they cant get advertisers to buy time on wrestling, it might be interesting to find old episodes of Nitro or Thunder with the commercials intact (albiet, that's harder than you'd think) and see what advertisers they WERE able to get. I'm sure there would be at least some high-end stuff advertised.
  3. I really like where this whole Chad Gable thing is going, but let's hope that Otis and Tozawa do get some revenge on him, if it's just them getting fired and then the Creeds join Alpha Academy and destroy them, it kind of makes them look like nothing but the losers that Chad's been calling them (I do want the Creeds in Alpha Academy, but not until after Otis and Tozawa take out Gable).
  4. If there is a season 6, here's some topics I'd like to see: Virgil Manny Fernandez Renegade Missy Hyatt Dick Murdoch Jim Duggan Heroes of Wrestling Pro Wrestling USA (though that might have been better for Tales from the Territories) The Gilberts (2 hours, one on Eddie, one on Doug) Kamala
  5. I recently saw a cool picture that had Sid about to powerbomb Davey Boy Smith and at the same time, Owen was trying to counter with a sunset flip. Does anyone know what match this pic came from?
  6. Today I learned that Jim Jamison (the second singer for Survivor and the singer of the Baywatch theme) sang the Big Bossman's Hard Times theme.
  7. Just watched it on youtube, Ventura sells it fine, but Mooney cant really get up to any of the righteous indignation that Vince or Monsoon could do, he seems more confused by what's going on if anything.
  8. Then again, slasher films were constantly villifed by most "Serious" movie critics anyway, so why not just make a wrestling-themed slasher? Just have some wrestler kill someone in the ring, get thrown in jail, then have him break out and go to some supercard and start picking off wrestlers. Simple plot right there (there were and still are more ludicrous plots and settings for slasher films).
  9. Can you post the letter Lawler wrote (unless the letter was just that picture of Lawler and Ken Lucas)? On a side note, it's kind of weird that there were never really any wrestling based horror films (aside from the Mexican ones of course). You'd think that with both the 80s wrestling boom and the 80s slasher films there could be some film tying into both (or maybe the 90s wrestling boom and the 90s slasher revival even).
  10. Vince has sold the rest of his TKO stock as well
  11. Wild that Ozzy Osbourne got in the WWE Hall of Fame before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
  12. And now Von Wagner is gone. Huh, that's a weird one, it seemed like they had bigger things planned for him.
  13. Speaking of commentary teams, did we ever get Jesse working with Sean Mooney? It would have to be for a coliseum video or a prime time/all american/spotlight exclusive, but it would be interesting to see how someone more "straight-laced" like Mooney would have worked with the more over the top Ventura.
  14. Occasionally Superstars and Challenge would have the announcers live in the arenas, especially around 91-92, and I think by 1993 they went back to having them there permanently (at least you'd see them at the commentary desk).
  15. Lots of great wrestling-related stuff on IA. The idea of Overruns, be it in WWE or AEW or any other company are terrible. What if there's another show coming on another channel that you want to watch that starts during the overrun (For NXT I usually have to DVR the end of it so I can watch Dark Side of the Ring)? Just book the show around the time limit, if you want longer main events just shorten or cut certain segments so the main event can fit in the time slot.
  16. Going into the early 90s here with a surprisingly competitive Tito Santana vs Bill Irwin match:
  17. If WWE is going to push this whole "New Era" thing, maybe they should give RAW, Smackdown, NXT, and even the WWE itself new logos/branding.
  18. Just realized that with Gunther and Roman (both of whom won their titles when Vince was still in charge) losing, ALL of the previous champs from the Vince regime have lost their belts. We really are in the HHH era
  19. Personally, I miss the custom backgrounds the wrestlers had while cutting promos on the Event Center. There were some pretty cool, unique designs there (ie, the Mr. Perfect statues, Beefcake's Barbershop).
  20. Another thing about Special Report is that around mid-1993 Hayes inexplicably turned heel and sided with the heels during the segments.
  21. Butcher needs to grow his hair out again. He had a cool scuzzy 70s heel look to him when he first showed up in AEW (and it made a good contrast to Blade's look), but now he just looks like another tough, tattooed bald guy.
  22. I get the feeling they'll be doing a spot with one of those letters. Really, I'm just happy WWE is acknowledging the number of Wrestlemanias again, as well as going back to Roman Numerals (Wrestlemanias are how I learned Roman numerals).
  23. Yeah, considering it looks like we're going to get an Endgame type scenario here, Austin showing up would just be like having another player.
  24. If you watch the full episode, the segments after (there's two more squashes after this segment) are really interesting as Jesse commentates the next match alone, then Vince comes out acting incredibly somber and low key and Jesse browbeats him for getting involved during the final match. They rarely had the commentary take a backseat to the main angle, at least not for that long.

    WWE announces "WWE Speed"

This must be for the people who think that current matches in WWE or for that matter AEW are too long.
