  1. http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ #111 The bilateral arm work Kawada starts off with Kobashi was awesome. I love the battle there and how the match escalates from their into the focused knee work. Then you have the huge final 10 minutes or so. Classic bout here ****1/2
  2. Awesome - Looking forward to it.
  3. #113 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ I pretty much share the same thoughts as PeteF3. This was really cool for what it was, but it's not my preferred style of wrestling. I give these guys props for delivering something great within their niche. The finish was really awesome.
  4. #117 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ Kawada finishing this match with a broken arm is simply amazing. I think the match was great, but of course that certainly adds to the drama. You can see him having to work around it, and there is no telling how much pain he was in when he was getting dropped or hooked. I think if you take that out, you still have a great match here, so that really adds on to an unforgettable performance.
  5. #118 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ I actually think I prefer this one to the match in May, and I have it around ****1/2 as well. It was my second favorite match of the month (only behind 10/26/90 Dandy/Satanico). Kobashi taking those brutal kicks while having his nose busted was pretty spectacular. And, Jumbo is always the man in tag settings. Taue was great here too. Great match.
  6. #119 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ I really love this match. The pacing of the match is fantastic. I love the way it builds. Also, Misawa is so on point with all of his offense. It looks incredible. The strike exchanges in this match are delivered and sold so well. I love the way they are selling the exhaustion within the striking towards the end, as they fall down after delivering a blow. The finish looked awesome. I agree, fantastic ****1/2.
  7. #123 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ There were a few places in the match where I fell out of it, but they always brought me back in. It's close to a classic for me, and definitely great. I have it around ****1/4 for myself. I thought the beginning was fine, but once they started with that first brutal elbow and chop exchange, I got pretty hyped. Kobashi remains my personal favorite of the All Japan Holy as well.
  8. #124 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ Put me on the love this match and moment side. The build throughout the PPV is incredible, and there is so much emotion surrounding this match (and coming out of it) that I don't care about some minor misses or flaws technically happening in the match. Flair takes a beating. The ending is wonderful. To get lost in wrestling while watching something like this is all that I can ask for. There aren't too many moments like this out there, and man do I enjoy this one. I get chills watching bloody Flair go toe to toe with the big man.
  9. #125 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/2/ This blew me away today. I haven't seen X recently enough to compare, but this is incredible. I love the focused limb work by Razor. Shawn's bumping in this is insane. The spot over the corner to the outside and the suplex to the outside (that nobody ever takes) were just nuts. Razor throws one of the best working punches in the WWF. Lot's of callbacks to the previous match that I was still able to remember, and probably more if I had watched it more recently. Just on the side, I always like when Shawn follows up a moonsault with rapid fire punches to his opponent on the ground. I can remember, years ago, that the finish used to bother me. Now, I actually think it added to the drama of the finish. It doesn't take me out of it at all anymore. ****3/4
  10. http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ #126 What a performance from Casas, and the turn seemed so cool here. I'll be looking forward to watching this feud build when I get to it someday. I just thought Casas delivered a major performance - great stuff. ****
  11. #127 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ "God, what a fight!" is right. Vader is the ultimate evil monster heel. I love how he throws his hands up in the air and screams after delivering some blows to the Stinger. Sting is the ultimate babyface here. The chemistry is off the charts. I've mentioned on some of their other matches, this is my personal favorite in-ring feud ever. I can watch Sting vs. Vader any day/everyday. The shots with the strap are insanely brutal. One of the most vicious moments in the match is when Sting is BEATING DOWN Vader with super stiff blows into the corner. Vader delivers his hard-hitting punches in this match, but Sting is throwing them right back at him. His face is covered with blood, and that just adds to it. One of my favorite moments is when they are both are there knees trading blows and sort of falling down with exhaustion after throwing each punch. Another one of my favorites crossed off this list a bit too soon
  12. #128 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ Agreed that Eddy is the glue. He was really entertaining in this. Fun match with lots of cool spots. There just wasn't anything that really grabbed me or sucked me in to feeling like this was great or a classic. However, a really really good watch. There was something about the ending that although it was botched, it felt a little abrupt to me as well... ***3/4 I came back and watched this again on 01/02/2020. I don't really use star ratings anymore, but I'm lower on it now. There are lots of trade off spots with no real transition and I still don't like the ending. I do still think Eddy was the really good in this, but for me, the match itself doesn't really hold up...
  13. #133 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ I have this at ****3/4 for me. So much has been said about this match, that mostly I can say I just share those sentiments. This is an all-time classic, and this would be higher on a list such as this for me. Off the top of my head, it would be one of my top 5 favorite tag matches of all time. It is definitely my favorite mystery partner reveal. Everyone in this match is fantastic, but for some reason I'm always picturing Arn Anderson first when I think back on it. In match full of great performances, and I just love the hell out of him here.
  14. #134 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ This match definitely had some cool moments (especially the ending with the ref bumps). I thought the damage done to Tanaka went a little over the top with him being dropped on his head so many times, and one moment looked like it almost killed him. I thought the work on the arm was good, and the selling of that was decent enough. The action was great. I thought this was entertaining, but I probably don't like it as much as some. ***3/4
  15. #137 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ What an incredible performance from Kobashi. He worked at least 90% of this match. He was the legal man the majority of the match, but even when he wasn't he was still working his ass off. There was a lot of great stuff here. The test of strength with Kobashi and Kawada, the idea to keep Misawa immobilized, Misawa's offense after the first hot tag (25 minutes in), and Kawada and Kobashi working over their injuries with about 15 minutes to go. I thought it was pretty brilliant how Taue had to give up a pin attempt because he was so driven to keep Misawa out of the match (in the early going after the choke slam to Kobashi). The ending lacked a little bit of a sense of urgency in my opinion, but hey, I know that had to have been exhausted too. I think I'd go around ****1/2 as well.
  16. http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ #138 It was a blast revisiting this tonight. I've seen it a million times, but it never gets old to me. One of the most fun matches in history. Ric Flair's performance is out of this world. Basically, everyone that came in wanted a piece of him. One of my favorite moments in wrestling is when Piper comes out, and the way the crowd and Flair react to that. Without a doubt worthy of the list, and it'd be higher on mine... anyway ... great moment and and match! It probably is my favorite Rumble match.
  17. Yeah, what a great match. So hard-hitting... those Kawada kicks were stiff, but one of the most badass Misawa elbows was thrown too. The camera shot was perfect from the outside and below waist level at their backs. It rocked Kawada's world, and looked awesome. Anyway, really enjoyed this. ****1/2 http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ #139
  18. #141 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ Well, if that is the reason Liger didn't wear a top, then it worked on me. The first thing I thought was how jacked he looked without his normal gear. I loved Liger's slap to the face of Hash after Hash had hit him with some headbutts. That top rope brainbuster was BRUTAL. This was incredible. ****1/2
  19. #143 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ I was really feeling this at first (well, meaning I was thinking classic, but it later fell below that level for me). I loved how Kobashi sold the first suplex with the stagger. There wasn't really much feeling out in this, within 4 minutes they had hit each other with some really big moves and it felt like a real war. I think this was a little bit of a detriment to the match down the line. This was pretty brutal in the first half. You had Kawada kicking Kobashi's head on the ringpost causing Kobashi's ear to bleed. Then he works some nasty holds on the ear only to follow it up with a knee drop to the bleeding ear. I thought all that was great. I liked Kobashi's attack on Kawada's knee as well. By the time they hit the 45 minute mark, Kawada is dropped on his head twice, and I was wondering where else it could go. It just sort of felt like they had given us everything by that point, and what else could they do. I do think the performances, as far as acting and selling the drama, from both guys were stellar. The match itself, it just didn't build well for me and lacked a little in regards to a story to attach myself to. That being said, it's a great match, and it has lots of great moments. ****1/4 Thinking on it, it sort of reminded me of the Misawa/Kobashi match from 10/21/97. That match also started off really big with some my turn your turn etc., but I felt that one had a better progression, feel, and story to it. I went ****1/2 on that one. I think it's likely because they weren't trying to fill a full hour. Just to note, that landed at #162 on this Top 500 list by Loss.
  20. #132 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ I totally agree. I think this is the best match to ever take place on an episode of Nitro. It blew my mind when I first saw it, and blew my mind again when I revisited it years later. I had forgotten how good it really was, and I remember feeling shocked with jaw to the floor the further along it got. The reversals and amount of fire they had in this thing. I think it was sort of forgotten, just because WCW was going downhill so fast. But, these guys really brought it on this night. I have it at ****1/2 as well. It's a personal favorite match of mine. Likely the last classic to come from WCW and probably Sting's last classic match as well. I love this match.
  21. I'm with both of you. I don't want this to sound like a rant, because as I stated, I had a great time watching this match. I thought AJ looked fantastic. But, the only thing I'll probably remember was that he looked super athletic and they hit a bunch of finishers. There's no meat and potatoes to the story (as I've seen Sleeze put it). Everything looks "phenomenal," but it's nowhere near the level of storytelling say the Roman/AJ series had (IMO). I don't know, the way I see it, is this is John's style of match ever since the big KO bouts that I didn't really care for. AJ adapts to Cena's style, because... well, he's Cena. They are super fun matches, but lack the depth both them are truly capable of.
  22. #145 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ This is an incredible match that I can't wait to get back to in the 91 YB. I'll be glad to watch everything chronologically and probably gain even more appreciation for how great this is. Even out of context, I still loved this match. Jumbo's presence in this, as always, is just off the charts. There's not much that I enjoy more than watching Jumbo in a tag setting. The eye certainly adds to the drama. Great final 10 minutes. High end of the ****1/2 for me. I really loved this match.
  23. http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ #149 My favorite match in October of 1990, and I had it around ****3/4 when I first saw it. Count me in as one that prefers the December match (*****), but it shouldn't take away from how awesome this is. This was actually my favorite lucha match of 1990 until the Morgan/Faraon match on 11/16 (****3/4) then of course #1 12/14/1990. For what it's worth, I have Dandy/Azteca 6/1/90 at ****3/4 as well. So, it would be my #4 Lucha MOTY.
  24. http://placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-150-101/ #150 I checked this out not too long ago, and I'm glad it made the list. Really enjoy this era of Waltmen, and this was a good performance by him. I always enjoy hearing him talk about it when he has the opportunity on podcasts. I believe this, along with the awesome Lynn matches, are all I've seen. Hopefully, I'll run across some more at some point.
  25. #153 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-200-151/2/ I love Fuchi's offensive attack on Kikuchi. It's sharp, impactful, and violent. Kobashi was on fire after the hot tag. Like most everyone else, I found Kobashi's selling of the knee to be fantastic. He's truly one of the greatest. Both Kobashi and Fuchi really stood out for me in this bout. I've never been a fan of that rolling pin move... I'm not sure what it's called, but for some reason it always bothers me. ****1/4
