It's always excited to see a singles win for Bret Hart and that 2/3 Falls match between Chris Candido and Hiroshi Hase would've been so cool to see live. Those are strong matches for the Phoenix Firestorm, especially on the first night, my God, that'll be great to see!

Wonder Women of Wrestling – Episode No. XXXVII – 11th of August 1986 – Airing Live! – Las Vegas, Nevada Advertised Match: Lisa Moretti versus Velvet McIntyre for the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship The programme kicks off with a replay of the visual pin Lisa Moretti got on Debbie Combs during last week’s main event before moving on to our traditional TV title opener. Medusa Miceli takes on Selina Majors in what amounts to a dissection. Medusa Miceli takes her opponent apart, practically tortures her throughout and uses the match as a showcase for her offensive move set. Selina Majors, cheered on by her stablemates, manages the very occasional breakthrough with a big move but it only delays the inevitable. Medusa Miceli defeats Selina Majors in 09:49 by pinfall after a German suplex to retain the WWW Television Championship After a hype package for the main event and a montage of sponsored content showing off various babyfaces at businesses, we head to the interviews. Selina Majors remains on the verge of tears throughout, as her friends try to reassure her that losing to a competitor like Medusa Miceli is nothing to be ashamed of. The interview with the champ is altogether tenser affair, as Medusa Miceli cuts off her stable’s initial backslapping and congratulations with a threat; if Rhonda Singh doesn’t pull her weight in her tag match tonight, she’s out of the group. We go to a commercial break before reaching the tag team match in question, with Rhonda Singh and Mad Maxine taking on the Star Girls, Rockin’ Robin and Jamie West. The match is exceptionally close. The monsters have the obvious physical advantage but they regularly misccomunicate – Rhonda Singh also appears uneasy throughout, with the weight over her leader’s threat affecting her – whereas the Star Girls appear practically psychic at points. The competitors go hard and this, eventually, favours the heels, who able to take just a little more punishment and hit just a little bit harder. All four are sweaty messes by the end. Rhonda Singh & Mad Maxine defeat Rockin’ Robin & Jamie West in 14:28 when Mad Maxine pins Jamie West after a vertical suplex A brief video interlude then takes us to the interviews. The Star Girls are stunned by their loss, achy and bruised, but still managed to promise that they’ll learn from the experience and come back stronger than ever. Once again, the monsters begin with smiles and backslapping before Medusa Miceli silences them and congratulates Rhonda Singh in her own understated way before using the rest of the interview time to complain about Velvet McIntyre taking her spot in the main event. A second commercial break then takes us through to the main event. With championships on the line, along with a shot at the world title, both women cut loose and give it everything they’ve got. Lisa Moretti takes every shortcut she can find, and Velvet McIntyre goes high-risk about a dozen times. They wrestle until neither has anything more in the tank and then they head into an adrenaline fuelled sprint for the finish. Both participants get a handful of two-counts but eventually the champion prevails. Lisa Moretti defeats Velvet McIntyre in 15:10 by pinfall after a powerslam to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship Rather than celebrating, however, the champion immediately turns on her opponent after the match and stomps a mudhole in her. Debbie Combs rushing down to the ring to aid her friend, leading to a stare-down between the world champion and her next challenger. The programme ends on this image; Debbie Combs helping up her friend but never taking an eye off Lisa Moretti as various staff members swarm around them.

There's nothing like a good rant from a heel to get the crowd amped up, now even I want to see Dick Slater go all the way! Nikita Koloff versus One Man Gang is also sure to be an entertaining bout!

I love seeing multi-man mayhem end a card! The Fabs made their mark, however, run-off or not, a spot that brutal sticks with people!

Two great cards! I love basically all of these storylines, but Buddy Landel and Lanny Poffo are the most interesting to me! That Russian Chain / I Quit match at Beach Brawl is going to be amazing!

That was a cool way to build Billy Jack Strong up, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him face Butch Reed now. The chaos at the end of the night was a lot of fun!

A double DQ is certainly the most fitting finish for a match between Bad New Allen and Bruiser Brody and I loved that crowd pleasing ending to the big main event!

Giant Haystacks makes for a perfect mystery partner, the kind that makes you stand up and take notice. The show ended with a really cool visual!

The Hangmen are building a lot of momentum! Buddy Landel continues to intrigue me! Steve Armstrong was robbed!

I love seeing an Al Perez win and it's good to see Abdullah the Butcher is keeping things bloody! The build-up for Dick Slater is going well.

After that, we head to the traditional television title opener. Medusa Miceli looks to defend against Lady Apache. Whilst the physical advantage goes to Medusa Miceli, it is obvious throughout that Lady Apache has an unrivalled fire in her belly – evidently viewing this opportunity as crucial to maintaining her good standing in the company. This all adds up to a wild match, full of ringside brawling and high risk moves. Eventually, however, the challenger simply proves incapable keeping on top of the champion’s relentless offence. Medusa Miceli defeats Lady Apache in 11:57 by pinfall after a German suplex to retain the WWW Television Championship After a brief video interlude – this one hyping up the main event, especially the element of having Debbie Combs and Lisa Moretti once again in the same ring – we head to the interviews. Lady Apache is comforted by her tag team partner and avoids beating herself up but admits that needs to improve her conditioning and her tactical ability. Medusa Miceli uses her interview to chew out her stablemates once again – only briefly commenting on the actual match she just one – telling them all that they’re going to have to shape up or end up like Reggie Bennett. After a commercial break we then head to an interesting match-up between Selina Majors and KC Houston. Both women have a lot to prove and treat the match accordingly. Whereas Selina Majors is surrounded by allies for moral support, however, KC Houston is alone. The face and heel dynamics being what they are, this does not unbalance the match too much, but a few good calls yelled out to her by her friends gives Selina Majors the slightest tactical edge. Selina Majors defeats KC Houston in 09:37 by pinfall after a jawbreaker A promotional music video then takes us to the interviews. KC Houston manages a half-hearted excuse for her loss before storming off, whereas Selina Majors is over-the-moon with her victory and her stablemates amp her up even more, daring to suggest that she should challenge for a singles title. We get to the main event after a second commercial break, where Debbie Combs receives an elaborate entrance befitting the world champion. The match is fun, fast-paced and even sided throughout. Whereas Misty Blue Simmes and Babyface Nellie are stronger competitors individually, the Glamour Girls make up for this with better teamwork (not to mention their lackeys and ringside and an abundance of dirty tricks). Debbie Combs and Lisa Moretti are both at the top of their game, though they tend to avoid one another. The finish has a lot of moving parts. It comes down to Debbie Combs and Lisa Moretti in one of their rare one-on-one encounters and the Glamour Girls make their move. After a swinging neckbreaker from Debbie Combs, the referee is distracted by a commotion. Unable to go for the pin, the world champ goes to investigate, which is when Lisa Moretti takes advantage with a roll-up. From their position, however, the Glamour girls take too long to release and back down from the ring apron. Lisa Moretti gets the visual three-count, but Debbie Combs manages to kick out of the referee’s actual delayed count at two. An apoplectic Lisa Moretti tries chewing the referee out but receives a roll-up of her own for her trouble. Debbie Combs & Misty Blue Simmes & Babyface Nellie defeat Lisa Moretti & Leilani Kai & Judy Martin in 16:22 when Debbie Combs pins Lisa Moretti with a schoolboy roll-up to retain the WWW Trios Championship We go off air to scenes of a jubilant babyface team and an enraged Lisa Moretti screaming at the top of her lungs.

That was a great main event! I'm very interested to see what happens with Buddy Landel going forward, and the Hangmen versus Highwaymen programme has got off to a great start!

Dick Slater is being built up quite nicely here! He also makes a great third man for the Funks!

The Highwaymen versus the Hangmen should be a fun lower card feud! It's great to see Buddy Landel in the main event. I have nothing but faith in his true good character!

Tracy Smothers knows what it takes to remain a champion but he must be worried about the next encounter! That ten-man tag on the tenth looked wild and crazy - excellent qualities for a main event!

That was a really good bit of set-up! I can't wait to see what Bruiser Brody has in store for the Mid-South Champion!

What a dramatic conclusion! It goes without saying that I'm really loving Ricky Steamboat's title run! I'm glad the Awesome Twosome kept their belts, even if they had to perform a "tactical retreat" - they have such a beating coming to them!

Wonder Women Wrestling JULY SUPERCARD 1986 Live from: Las Vegas, Nevada The programme leads in with footage from a VIP fan party before transition to the opening light show. The first match is designed to be a fast-paced and engaging tag team contest between the teams Lady Apache & Vicky Carranza and Leilani Kai and Judy Martin. The fight is even-sided and it’s clear throughout that it could go either way, with Lady Apache especially trying hard to show that she’s not been to badly shaken by her recent loss. In the end, however, the Glamour Girls have just the slightest edge in wiles and their cheating ways net them the victory. Leilani Kai & Judy Martin defeat Lady Apache & Vicky Carranza in 08:49 when Leilani Kai pins Vicky Carranza whilst pulling her tights After a sponsor-filled video package we head to the interviews. The faces angrily demand a rematch whilst the heels laugh off the idea. The Glamour Girls also wish their stablemate Despina Montagas luck in tonight’s penultimate match. The second match of the night strikes an altogether different tone from the first. Penny Mitchell and Candice Pardue once again face off in a grudge match, the stipulations this time are that; there will be no disqualifications and the entire roster is a ringside to keep them in the fight (unspoken is the expectation that a number of them are likely to get heavily involved in the action). From the word go, the contest is nasty. Both competitors hate each other, and it shows, neither one is prepared to give an inch. Within minutes, they look exhausted and appear to be powered by rage alone. They each give as good as they get and, without interference, it looks like a match that could easily end with both of them simply collapsing from fatigue. The women at ringside are the difference makers, however. Inside the ring, face and heel tactics are totally blurred but outside it is all too clear that Candice Pardue is forced to endure ten times the abuse of her opponent whenever she’s thrown out of the ring. Eventually, this leads to her practically falling into the arms of an entirely unsympathetic Penny Mitchell beaten and bruised and unable to carry on. She receives a neckbreaker for her trouble. Penny Mitchell defeats Candice Pardue in 18:55 by pinfall after a swinging neckbreaker After a music video hyping up the main event, we get to the interviews. A weary Candice Pardue pleads for another match against her former mentor, saying she’d accept any stipulation the company threw at her. Penny Mitchell rejects the idea of another rematch categorically, declaring herself “done” with her old partner. After that, we head down to the ring for the world tag team title bout. Wendi Richter and Peggy Lee Leather eagerly await the champions. Accompanied to the ring by the rest of their stable, Medusa Miceli (sporting her recently won television championship) and Mad Maxine saunter down to the ring confidently. This cocky attitude is punished, however, when Wendi Richter pulls Medusa Miceli threw the ropes by her hair and proceeds to pummel her. She gets more than a few good shots in before the officials break it up. The narrative of the match emerges soon after the opening bell. The monsters have numbers advantage and no qualms about cheating, but Wendi Richter is irrepressible. The former world champion leans ever so slightly into a face role for the duration of the match, by necessity as much as anything else, and neutralises practically every dirty tactic that gets thrown at her. An increasingly frustrated Medusa Miceli is then made a fool of in the finishing stretch. Wendi Richter plays possum and catches her prey this perhaps the closest three-count the company has seen. Wendi Richter & Peggy Lee Leather defeat Medusa Miceli & Mad Maxine in 19:20 when Wendi Richter pins Medusa Miceli with a small package to win the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship After a brief video interlude, we get to the interviews. Medusa Miceli lines her stablemates up and doesn’t even hesitate before launching into a tirade, berating all of them but especially Reggie Bennett. She gives the woman in question an ultimatum – win in the battle royal later tonight or else her time in the stable is over. The others remain passive, beyond glances and whispers. Wendi Richter laps up her interview time, gloats a lot and declares herself, once again, the undisputed number one wrestler in the company. An ad spot then takes us to a twelve-woman battle royal for Lisa Moretti’s dual championships. The other competitors are a true mix – most accompanied to the ring by tag partners or stablemates – and they all fancy their chances. The challengers are Ashly Kennedy, Babyface Nellie, Candi Devine, Desiree Petersen, Despina Montagas, KC Houston, Linda Dallas, Selina Majors, Reggie Bennett, Rockin’ Robin and Winona Little Heart. The story of the match is a simple one, rather than a traditional battle royal full of alliances and betrayals, the contest plays itself out as more of a gauntlet for Lisa Moretti. Her smarts and her physical abilities are put to the test, and she passes with flying colours. Reggie Bennett, desperate to prove herself to her stable, is the first to go when the champ effortlessly dodges a wild lunge and sends her tumbling to the outside. Her allies take one disgusted look at her before returning to the lockers. Whilst the others tend to be a little bit more cautious in their approach, no strategy finds any purchase with the champion, who becomes more energised with every elimination she scores. Her final opponent is Babyface Nellie and the two manage to go for almost ten minutes of a traditional bout but, try as she might, the last challenger cannot get Lisa Moretti into the danger zone and eventually gets throw over the top rope. Lisa Moretti defeats Reggie Bennett & Selina Majors & Ashly Kennedy & Rockin’ Robin & Candi Devine & Winona Little Heart & Despina Montagas & Desiree Petersen & KC Houston & Linda Dallas & Babyface Nellie in 24:02 in a twelve woman over-the-top-rope battle royal to retain the WWW Fighting Spirit Championship and the NWA Texas Women’s Championship One final hype package for the main event plays – this one focusing on the reign of Debbie Combs as world champion thus far – before we head to an interview with the winner. Lisa Moretti is animated throughout and challenges Debbie Combs to a rematch of their contest at the Great American Bash. The main event is preceded by another light show and an elaborate entrance for the champion. She is accompanied down the ramp by the children of premium ticket holders and makes sure to interact with the fans at ringside. Misty Blue Simmes spends the time psyching herself up. With two highly skilled faces, the match plays out as fun back-and-forth before heating up in the finishing stretches. Without resorting to outright heel tactics, the champion nevertheless lets her ruthless streak show in order to ensure her reign continues. The finish is simple yet effective. Misty Blue Simmes goes for a diving splash and Debbie Combs catches her and transitions seamlessly into a scoop slam. Debbie Combs defeats Misty Blue Simmes in 26:46 by pinfall after a scoop powerslam to retain the NWA World Women’s Championship With no hard feelings between them, we close on a shot of the challenger raising the champion’s arm in celebration.
