  1. The start of the match is great. The Rockers using their speed and chemistry to overwhelm Smash, constantly locking him in arm wringers and controlling the match. All that and it only could be stopped with a thumb in the eye. Classic move. The match keeps a nice brisk pace, even when Demolition go one offence. The heat section was good but not great although the transition to it with Ax pulling down the ropes to make Michaels fall over was great. The hot tag was pretty wild at least. ***3/4
  2. He had some cracking matches in NXT whenever he had the chance (injuries putting a stop to any regular quality) against guys like Black and Roode, to be fair. KENTA may also have suffered from lack of motivation given that he was never going anywhere on 205 Live. Maybe I'm just projecting my wishes rather than the reality. Nevertheless, KENTA could always switch it up. Rather than trying to be old KENTA, go in the grumpy ass kicker approach and just beat the hell out of people. That would be quite fun to watch. And yeah, Shingo in the G1 has far more promise. But that doesn't mean they can't shine in their own ways.
  3. I thought this was a classic. Some of the falls were slightly over done but I get the purpose behind them - it gets over the gimmick and gives Steamboat a big obstacle to overcome. Some excellent displays of storytelling in the match, starting with Ricky dominating the first few minutes only to get caught and Rude get the advantage. Rude was an excellent heel too. Ricky an excellent face. Hot closing stretch puts this over the top too. ****3/4
  4. All the matches that I watched either were dissapoting or flawed to the point it didn't reach their potential (Lee vs Ospreay). KENTA in New Japan (and the G1) is exciting. Obviously, it's not prime KENTA but KENTA is KENTA
  5. Good match. It’s not on a par with the other matches of their trilogy but an awesome one nonetheless. Most of the best RINGS matches are when they have pro wrestling elements in, like Maeda’s matches do. Maeda was on the defensive, kicking some nasty shots in the side of the body by Vrij (or Fry as the package showed). Maeda had a few good shots of his own which was all he needed and made a great comeback.
  6. Oh. Good match. I do love seeing the european wrestlers come to RINGS. They usually are pretty fun to watch. Zaza has a a big history in amateur wrestling and MMA (in the future) so it’s cool to see those skills put to test here. Koichiro Kimura is actually a bit more famous being a former KO-D Openweight Champion in DDT although his MMA career wasn’t as successful as Zaza. Anway. There was some real great grappling at the beginning. The striking wasn’t great but there was the occasional stiff strike that was good. Zaza getting the surprise tap was shocking. Didn’t seem like any danger but Kimura tapped to the rare naked choke.
  7. This was fantastic. Great striking, some lovely takedowns and throws. Great timing to get the crowd pumping.
  8. Awesome scrap. Never been Bert Kops Jr before but he was fun. He hit some lovely body throws and slams. Peeters hit some lovely counter strikes including an uppercut (w/ a closed fist) after taking one of the throws. They were matching each other, cancelling each other out with headlocks, ground and pounds, constantly struggling for control. The KO at the end was brutal with Peeters laying a few shots in before hit a nasty knee to the face of Kops.
  9. Champion has gotta put over the company. Sad but it's comes with the role.
  10. Very good match. Moxley definitely proved me wrong. I do think he has something to fix such as the timing of certain holds, the STF which was received with silence for example. But he mostly looked good. His offense looked much better and he did a nice job of beating down Juice as if he wasn't doing that himself. Juice was the star of the match for me though. His selling and bumping were excellent. I loved his willingness to go all out with his attacks too. All the praise will go to Moxley but Juice was the star of the match, in my opinion. The blatant rule breaking made me roll my eyes and the match missed its peak by a few minutes but other than that, this was very good. ****
  11. He always had glimpses but he put it all together today. Big step up for him.
  12. The crowd was going crazy from the start. Even before the guys started doing anything. And they carry that all the way through. The Midnight Rockers show off their attheectlism, the fans clap like nothing. Rose and Somers speak in the corner, boos ring out. It’s great. Nothing is better than a loud crowd. The crowd gets even more loud once Shawn bleeds. Love Somers going right for the cut once he sees it, opening it up more with Shawn selling every punch like a million bucks - it might just be his best selling performance of his career. The beat down of Michaels is excellent. Aggression and ruthless. The build to the hot tag is amazing. Shawn gets a brief moment of chance but he is so hurt that he doesn’t make it to Marty in time. There is another point in the match where Michaels staggers to the wrong corner because he is so disoriented and it just makes you want the hot tag more and more. And when it comes, the roof is blown off. Jannett comes in like a house on fire and kicks some ass. Somers takes a heck of a beating with his head ramming into the post twice, getting busted open himself. The part where Shawn Michaels gets his payback for the beatdown Rose and Somers gave him earlier in the match was truly fantastic. The finish would normally be a downer but it added to the hatred of the feud and fit the story of the match perfectly. Fantastic match. ****3/4
  13. Didn’t seem never ending although it felt long. And a better match layout. But that’s really all. There was some uninspiring leg work by Cole which is inevitably no sold for much longer than it is sold only to come back in the finish for no real reason. Some more awful 50/50 move for move/no sells that don’t add anything and looked bad. Too many false finishes involving moves that are supposed to be killer moves later in the finish like the Panama surprise on the floor. If they wanted to kill the move, they did that but they clearly didn’t. You know, mostly everything that happened in New York. Just better than that match though. Not a compliment. I would compliment the crowd for being super hot but I found them obnoxious like they usually are in the main events.
  14. Incredibly strong(pun intended) start to the show. There was a brisk back and forth pace so the match didn’t outstay its welcome. Loved the competitiveness that the match had with both men being able to shine - Roddy w/ his excellent back work and Riddle w/ his explosive comebacks. But I do think that Riddle could’ve sold his back far better than he did, especially when making his comebacks because he kinda blew it off. But it wasn’t all bad as he did sell fairly well besides that. Some of the sequences like Roddy’s running elbows were awesome. Riddle added some of his usual great strikes too. More of this please. ***1/2
  15. A classic in every sense of the word. Incredibly heated and violent. Action packed. Well paced. Exciting. And compelling from start to finish. You got Austin and his MVP performance with his unbelievable bumping, whether int was into the cage itself or just in general. He really carried the first half of the match with his Windham section and the double team parts with Rude. Rude excelled at taking all the punishment such as the Sting/gorilla press spot. Arn adds his magic with his impactful offence and good bumps, Larry too. Eaton didn’t do much as the last guy in the ring for the DA. Windham matched Austin in many ways but bumped less. Nevertheless, he was fantastic, as was Dustin with his awesome beat down sots. Ricky was great as the fiery underdog taking the brunt of most of the Alliance’s attacks. Sting and Nikita had their story line stuff. Great performance all round. One thing I do like about the match was the lack of lying around. Everyone was doing something opposed two people doing a spot for the camera and everyone waits for their turn. This was a wild brawl for everyone involved. *****.
  16. Fujinami with a mustache!!! I believe that this match has a strong reputation for being super stiff and sometimes uncooperative. I can certainly see that in some cases. Iizuka getting a bruised/closed up eye is a perfect example. But it doesn’t really lead to the match falling apart. They do everything like normal, only super, super stiff. Some of the big spots of the match were crazy. Very intense and brutal looking which I loved. Iizuka took it all like a champ, not that he had a choice and even gave some back. Fujinami ruled in this match. The Steiners have that presence that glues you to the screen. The downside was that there wasn’t much structure to the match but with that being said, this was still a highly compelling, violent match. ****1/2
  17. Main event was not my cup of tea. Definitely something I should should skip for the foreseeable future as far as Cole (or Gargano) is concerned. But the rest was fun. Really good show, like Takeovers usually are. Everything from start to Baszler/Io was either very good or at least fun in its own way. The show had good pacing, had the matches in the correct spots and didn't feel like a total drag to watch. The crowd was loud in a good way for the most part too. Nothing I'd consider great on this show which is the only downside for the show overall but make no mistake, watch most of these matches. Some of the winners were a bit suspect, such as Baszler vs Shirai but I'm down with another match between the two, as far as it leads to a good pay off.
  18. Umaga finally away from Santino Marella and Vince! Umaga ragdolling Hardy sounds like a recipe for huge success to me as Umaga is excellent as a monster. He knows how to use his size and speed to his advantage as well as how to get the best out of his opponent. Umaga uses the most basic moves early on, including an Irish Whip and makes it look so great. Hardy's willingness to go all in on that stuff certainly helps. Jerry offers some excellent commentary in the match too, explaining why the Nerve grip that Umaga does is so effective which is simple yet great insight. Jeff is so good when being killed by someone. He sells Umaga's offence well, bumps his butt off and is incredibly sympathetic which creates tons of heat for the match. Another thing that's good about the match is how most of Hardy? s offence comes from Umaga's mistakes. Whether it's taking too much time to do something or a missed move, Hardy capitalised as it's the only way you can beat him. The near fall with the missed corner splash into a swanton bomb was excellent. The crowd and I totally bought it. Hardy sold the impact of his landing just enough to allow Umaga enough time to recuperate and stay alive. The way it lead to the finish was good too. Overall, this was a great match. Hardy is in his eliminate as the defensive wrestler and Umaga does an Umaga. ****1/4
  19. Never been a big KUDO fan. He doesn’t have the charisma of HARASHIMA but I do think that he is still a good wrestler because of his intensity and good offence, and he very much delivered here. Some of his comebacks were extremely well timed and thus allowed all the babyface heat he gained in the match to shine through most effectively. The fire he showed in his offence was so awesome. HARASHIMA was fantastic in this. And whilst KUDO did great fighting from beneath, HARASHIMA stood out with his outstanding heel work. Closed fists for some of the strike exchanges, smiling in such a dickish manner whilst brutalising KUDO’s ribs, being an absolute bully. The peaked at the absolute right time with no over dramatic near falls, keeping it to a minimum. There was tons of struggle in the match, allowing the tension of a switches of momentum to happen. The crowd bought into what the story was telling. Great match held up by two fantastic performances. ****1/2
  20. This was fantastic. The selling by Rude was unbelievable. His selling of the arm when posing and on offence was so consistent which is key when you are doing limb work. In addition to that, Ricky’s selling of the neck was good too but Rude’s was god tier. The work on the arm (Steamboat) and the neck (Rude) was also great. The match had a really good tempo to it as well. ****1/2
  21. Really enjoyed this match. The Dangerous Alliance being great heels with both vicious and chicken shit heel tendencies, something that Austin does perfectly and Larry isn’t too shabby at that stuff either.. Windham and Rhodes had great chemistry too. ***3/4
  22. The fans didn't know how to react to Liger at first but they sure caught along quick. Some great displays of counter wrestling and showing off early on, Liger looked great and the crowd started to response to him. The middle portion was a ton of downtime. But the finish was hot. Good stuff.
  23. Considering this is the blow off to a long built feud that began in 1996, this was very, very heatless. Zero hatred or intensity behind the match. Very shallow brawling in that sense. There was a few neat suplexes by Taz and Sabu added his certain ways of doing things but without that depth, it doesn't amount to much. **1/2
  24. Not a bad match. For one, I enjoyed the start of the match. Some of the counters were pretty slick, well, the ones with the chair anyway. The action was well paced and was allowed time to breath, for the most part. However, some of the transition from spot to spot were poorly done. Not creativity to it; one spot, break, another spot, break. So it was a let down from that point. Also, everything after the chair spots lost me. Just got boring from that point on. The crowd didn't seem that into it either, although they chanted "five more minutes" after the time limit expired. I'll be generous and give it **3/4.
  25. One of the most intense, hate driven matches I've seen, and it has a whole side of awesomeness to it as well. There is basically two parts to the match. The first part was the back and forth between Saito and Inoki. Saito keeps going for the Prison Lock (when it's locked on, it looks great - really tight) and using his power to keep Inoki at bay, while Inoki keeps on the defensive and relies on his fury and superior wrestling skills. Th second part is when Inoki has enough of Saito using the ropes to his advantage and has them taken down. That's when this match reaches a whole new level as Saito gets busted open and Inoki punches the life right out of him. It was great. The heat was off the charts, along with the crowd's reaction to it all. The post match angle was done extremity well. All round excellent match with a huge big fight feel to it. Blood and a whole lot of fire. ****1/2
